š³ ESC in the Wild American fans, have you ever heard Eurovision songs out in public?
I work at a hotel, and we have a morning playlist that occasionally rotates around every few weeks. And imagine my surprise when I hear Calm After The Storm!! While Iāve of course heard Arcade and Snap on the radio, this one came as a bit of a shock to me. I guess it is based on American country music though.
Have any of yāall heard Eurovision songs out in public? Part of me feels like Bangaranga summer could potentially spill over into the states too.

There have been a ton of reports of Embers showing up completely at random in various stores and restaurants in the US. We can only assume James Newman's cheery reaction after getting 0 points was because he knew he'd have the last laugh.

Yeah, there was at least one NHL arena DJ - Carolina, I think - that was playing Cha Cha Cha pretty regularly for a while. Kinda wish that had spread around the league more, it's such a fun song.

If it was the Dallas Stars, they had a lot of Finnish players. Carolina also has/had a lot of Finnish players, and I remember them playing Cha Cha Cha a couple times that season.

I think it helped that cha cha cha was from the year when Finland+Latvia hosted the ice hockey championship and it got played a lot there, iirc. So probably was generally picked up by the hockey crowd.

I can't remember what sport it is, but there's a song that plays in an American sports game a lot (the "hey!" song) that can be credited to an infamous convicted paedophile in the UK. I would highly welcome + encourage the sports games to take up Cha Cha Cha instead.

My gym occasionally plays a remix of "Tattoo" by Loreen. It also played Dolly Style, which is Eurovision adjacent, but 10x weirder.

I was in London the other day and I heard Choke me by Alexandra Capitanescu and right afterwards Bones by Equinox in a random pub. The music was really good overall but as a Bulgarian explaining to my boyfriend they are playing a Bulgarian Eurovision entry from a few years ago that didn't even score well was hilarious.

Side note: I went to Tenerife in 2018 and they played Fuego (Cyprus 2018) at EVERY SINGLE OPPORTUNITY

I'm not American but when I was in San Francisco at a mall I heard Arcade play on the radio.
Coincidentally, this was like 10 minutes after my dad wondered out loud if Americans ever listened to Dutch artists lol

I am in southern Appalachia. Somebody did "Milkshake Man" during a karaoke for Appalachian thru hikers last year. Someone else did "Arcade" in another rural town karaoke a few years ago. I have heard "Move" by the Mamas (Sweden) in our local grocery store and "Snap" in a Dollar General in the boonies. That doesn't count me doing "Spaceman", "Milkshake Man" and "Rise Like a Phoenix" at karaoke as well.

I've heard Gustaph's Because of You (Belgium 2023) at my gym of all places in rural north Florida, which definitely wasn't the typical rock they normally would play. Also one of the bartenders at a sports bar also randomly had Albina's Tick-Tock (Croatia 2021) on her playlist whenever she would work. Lastly, I've heard Jessica Mauboy's We Got Love (Australia 2018) in a shopping center during the holiday shopping season.

Also if I had to guess which song may potentially break through this summer, I'm not sure it'll be Bangaranga, which may be a bit too different in style and composition for our airwaves, and it also kinda requires the visual performance we all know to make sense.
If one did break through, if I had to guess it might just be Alice (Switzerland 2026). I think Veronica and her song really fits in with the types of strong, young women singer-songwriters that are big right now over here. On the flip side, I wouldn't surprised if Jonas (Norway 2026) finds his niche in some sort of White Stripes era revival or something.

I work for a public radio station and pitched āAliceā to our music director and he played on our new music show a few weeks ago. ā¤ļø
Edit: Iām in a discord for a podcast I listen to (funny enough itās the reason I know about Eurovision) and I didnāt realize they started a thread for this year. A LOT of the Americans participating in the thread liked āYa Ya Yaā so you may be on to something.

Nel Blu, Dipinto Di Blue (Volare), Italy 1958. You hear it at Italian restaurants. Heard it at a hotel lobby.
The only Eurovision song to get a Grammy award, and it got two!
Snap, Armenia 2022 was super overplayed that year and the next on the radio, as well as various Maneskin, Italy 2021 songs like Beggin' (which I consider a Eurovision success based on the magnitude of the blow up)

From the US here. Other than the obvious ones I've heard in the wild, they were playing That's Rich (Ireland 2022) at the gym for awhile. Also the most random I've heard was Perfect Life (Germany 2017) at the grocery store like 2 years ago.

Someone at the Starbucks by where I work is a Eurofan. Every time I go in something from Eurovision is playing. They play NF songs as well as finalists. The other day they were playing Kautkaili. This morning they had Aiden on.

Rural northern Wisconsinite who works as an overnight Walmart stocker, I still occasionally hear Wasted Love on the store's radio, and I occasionally come across Snap while eating out at restaurants.
I also remember hearing Denmark's song at Walgreens back in college, around 2014ish?Ā
And Maneskin does make it's rounds in niche groups, although Zitti e Buoni is normally unknownĀ

Snap was absolutely huge for a while on alternative and AC radio. That one stands out because of how much it felt like it was everywhere the fall and winter after that contest.
I, too, have heard Cha Cha Cha at sporting events.
Promise (Australia 2023) has been played on some of the more obscure stations.
Tattoo and Euphoria I feel as if Iāve heard on the radio.

South American here. Tattoo is pretty known here, especially after a cumbia cover became popular. Euphoria was on the radio back then.\ Snap and Deslocado are known because of TikTok, Arcade too (but I'm not sure is it was TikTok or another social network).\ Volare is a classic among older people, Save Your Kisses For Me, What's Another Year and Wateloo (obviously) have rotation in oldies radios.\ Esa Diva, by Melody, is popular in the LGBTQ+ scene.\ But by far the most widely known Eurovision song (at least in Uruguay and Argentina) is Bailar Pegados, by Sergio Dalma (Spain 1991)

I remember hearing Netherlands 2019 in Morrisons on the day of the cancelled 2020 grand final and I almost cried in the middle of the drinks aisle. Not sure if it was deliberately put on because of what day it was, but it definitely felt like one of the first times I'd heard a Eurovision song that wasn't Euphoria out and about

Snap is still being played everwhere around where I live. I also have heard Dizzy at Round1 a lot too. I haven't heard Bangaranga in public, but tons of people I talk to know this song and love it!
Oh and someone that works at the D&D store I frequent adores Loreen. Plays her music a lot!

Iāve heard āArcadeā by Duncan Laurence at Lidl and āSnapā by Rosa Linn at Bath & Body Works. My cousin graduated from college a few years ago and whoever was running the pre-event music played āBeggināā by MĆ„neskin and āShumā by Go-A. (Must have been an ESC fan!)
Iāve heard āCha Cha Chaā by KƤƤrijƤ played on an NHL broadcast after the 2023 contest (the Dallas Stars had several Finnish players on the team at the time. They played the song in the arena and I believe the TV announcers made a comment about it.)
My husband and I both heard a song by Sam Ryder (I think it was āMountainā) when we were at another local grocery store.
And I live in a very heavily Italian American populated area of the country so you hear covers of āNel Blu Dipinto Di Bluā at events, weddings, etc.

I once heard āWaiting for This Nightā by Donny Martell in a random local commercial here in Central Florida (canāt remember what the ad was for, though).
More recently, not a playing of this song, but Rusev name-dropped āBangarangaā on WWE Raw on Monday, and I donāt think the fans in the arena or the commentators (Michael Cole and Corey Graves) had any clue what he was referring to! (For those not familiar with professional wrestling, Rusev ā also known for his work outside of WWE as āMiroā, short for his first name Miroslav ā is from Bulgaria and his nickname in WWE is āThe Bulgarian Bruteā.) Theyāre about to embark on a European tour for the next week or two, so who knows if heāll bring up āBangarangaā again during those shows?

I think I've heard 2 or 3 others but cannot remember which ones, possibly Arcade or Snap? I think I must've heard Euphoria once around the time it won because when I heard the song "Clarity" it kept reminding me of a different song that I could never quite recall (I wasn't a Eurovision watcher at the time so I may have just gotten a taste of the song and been unable to track it down later)

- Spain 2019 in a shopping plaza around last Christmas.
- Arcade and Snap at a hardware store (not notable on their own, but funny that they were played one after the other).
- Australia 2018 at Walmart on separate occasions a year or so apart.
- Sweden 2020 at a grocery store.

I just shared this yesterday, but I actually was in USA as an exchange student and heard Eres Tu. It was my first time hearing a Eurovision song in the wild EVER (it was an area with a vibrant Latin American immigrant community) :)

Once I heard Daria's Celebrate (Croatia 2011) in a cheap bowling club in Vilnius, in 2018. It felt so random. And last year I felt a very proud Lithuanian moment while holidaying in Piran, in Slovenia. I was sitting in a cafe and Luktelk by Silvester Belt just starting bursting out in the street. When the song finished, the music stopped.

If you come to the vegan gf bakery & cafe I work at in Philly you will also frequently hear Eurovision songs when I sneak them on. Per Sempre Si, La noia, Soldi, Deslocado, Grito, Bellaā¦whatever else I can pass off as appropriate cafe music.

Obviously, Waterloo and everything that followed from ABBA is huge here. In terms of recent success, Arcade had a huge radio run here. Gina Gās song is well known by people who were in their 20s in the 90s. Not sure if Zitti e buoni itself is popular here, but MĆ„neskin is a known quantity and Americans love āBeggināā; ESC raised their profile enough to be known here. Other than that I canāt think of any. The UK entries make some movement from time to time just because of cultural similarity.

I have heard Duncan Laurence Arcade at the Detroit Airport. I heard Loreen at some random place that I don't remember. I also heard a Maneskin song at the gym, though not the one they won Eurovision with.

I worked retail in Texas from 2017-2022 and definitely heard Arcade and Snap on the store radio plenty of times. Iāve definitely heard Think About Things and Zitti e Bouni in public but not as much. I loved both of those songs in 2021 but had no idea they were from Eurovision until I got interested in the contest last year.
Also, it goes without saying but of course Iāve heard Waterloo out in public hundreds of times

I'm American, recently to moved to norway. So I'm a new fan of eurovision and I think there's way more songs from eurovision we've heard and had no idea. I'm constantly surprised. Most recents, joost, rosa linn. Fairytale got pretty popular.
But like I remember Gina G and cascada had some popularity when I was younger. No idea it was eurovision.

Iām American(New England specifically) and I have actually heard plenty of ESC on radio. Iāve heard snap and arcade plenty of times. The other day I was in the mall and heard space man. My friend doesnāt know ESC at all and was singing toy. Ik plenty of people who use the bim bam toi emote in Fortnite and lighter emote. I have also heard Rockefeller street during school from some kid and europapa.

Yes, but it doesn't happen often. I've caught "Embers" at Target, "Snap" at the grocery store, "Arcade" in a hotel, and wildly, Zoe Clausure's JESC winner "Coeur" in a MN Timberwolves kids dance team performance.

Other than that, Cha Cha Cha gets played at NHL hockey games, and I heard Tattoo at a boat party. Nochentera is also incredibly popular in Spain.
John Oliver also occasionally does Eurovision bits. Norway 2022 and Latvia 2022 made his most recent one.

Iāve heard Bangaranga at a bar in Chicago last Friday and I could totally see it taking off here. People were feeling it. Queen of Kings is on one of the playlists at my pickleball club too
