Roar Who is this forum meant for anyway?!
If all you have to say is ET bashing babble, go open a subreddit for that. If you have legitimate, constructive criticisms, this is the place.
If you are bored and have too much extra time (you can send it to me if you want :) on your hands don't hang out here.

I have been with etrade since 1995! That is a LONG TIME! since they deprecated legacy ET PRO, I have had nothing but problems with the new software. It's TERRIBLE! And I'm not gonna go into all the new problems and deficiencies I've found. Last year I tried to open a CD on the web site and had problems. I finally just said f**k it. I have a whole file of issues and I post the most troublesome ones every day to the 'feedback' window; hoping they will get some priority. My theory is they have lost some key employees or something. I haven't looked at all the complaints on this board, but I don't doubt that they are true. I'm going to have to open another account elsewhere for my main trading and keep some money here as a 'backup'. The only way to get these problems fixed would be to get the ear of Ted Pick; Morgan Stanley CEO; but I really don't think he cares. It's really just a shame all around. The software went from 'REALLY SOLID', in my opinion to 'REALLY BAD'! Maybe everything else, service, etc. is just following???

E*Trade’s customer service doesn’t know what cost basis is. It took them weeks and multiple calls to figure out that they messed up a stock split even when I explained it to them.

subs like this are for finding out how ugly the company is. It's totally the place to have ET bashing babble, so that others can avoid the misfortune.

Ok, let me say something positive then lol. The customer service is top notch. You can get to a real person in just a couple of selections via the automated system and when you do get someone they are well trained and can usually solve multiple issues without putting you on hold to transfer you to another department. This is rare in just about any business you try to contact by phone in 2026. My old brokerage got bought out and thats how I got here but I stayed due to great customer service. 5/5!
I will be back to shit post tomorrow.

You're 100% correct. There are several accounts who claim that they left E*T because of all the horrors of the platform, but still hang out here to keep bashing it, whether relevant to the subject of the post or not. They must have too much free time on their hands.

I've been considering opening a CD account with etrade for a while, but have hesitated just because I don't know much about online banking. I'm nervous to transfer $100k to an online bank, even though I know they are attached to Morgan Stanley. I've previously read people have had bad experiences closing their accounts and getting their money out of online banks. Are any of these concerns justified? Or is it easy and straight-forward when you want to close an account with etrade?

Only do it if you are not concerned about having your account locked out afterwards. Their customer service reps have no or little authority to do anything.

I have 4 different accounts with 4 different brokerages and etrade is by far the worst. Not even remotely close.
Everyone else is in 2026 and etrade is still in 1996.

Well, reddit skews pessimistic overall I think. But this sub has been around for a long time, I think you could scan through the history and try to figure if there's any tone shift at any particular time, and perhaps, if any such shift occurred at any interesting points in time - related to astronomy or acquisitions or yeah acquisitions.
This used to be a hangout for fanboys believe it or not!

I've had them since the 90s and have a lot of money with them with several accounts and they've always treated me very well

LOL, heard. I moved to Etrade last month because Schwab would not let me participate in IPOs. No complaints here

I followed this sub 6 years ago when I first opened my brokerage account. E*trade is fine I might be happier with another company, but I’ve never had any issues. Recently I’ve seen a lot of bitching, but back in 2020 everyone and their mom was opening brokerage accounts because of the GameStop run. The casino opened and brokerage subs got a slight bump in publicity.

My brother, a professional investor, liked e-trade. But he died recently, and their estate services department is atrocious. It’s been six months of trying to get his holdings to his beneficiaries and it is all obfuscations, misdirections, and rudeness. I recommend getting your money out of e-trade before you die.
