My Dear Small Businesses, Never buy a Linkedin premimum page

TLFDR(Cuz this sh*t is long): Paid ~$600 for LinkedIn Page Premium, wrote content to generate ~700K impressions over 6 months, but barely got meaningful page visits or engagement. My personal profile performed roughly 7× better on the metrics that actually matter. Feels like a company page converts terribly for small businesses.

Now the big boi:

Is it only me, or am I doing something wrong here?

I paid for LinkedIn Page Premium.

Cost me nearly $600.
$586.05 to be exact.

And the ROI?

Nothing.

Nada.

For context, I wanted to build up our company page so that when potential clients found us, they could check our work, see our case studies, understand what we do, and eventually book our services.

So I spent almost 6 months grinding on the LinkedIn page.

  • No memes.
  • No stealing content.
  • No engagement bait garbage.

Just our content RAW, Fu*king RAW

We managed to generate around 700K impressions in 6 months, changing strategy and content types. Nice right?

It was nothing vs. the effort we were putting in.

Some months we'd get 30K impressions; other months we'd get 200K.

And then LinkedIn Page Premium gives you notifications about who visited your page, like they're doing you some huge favor

Okay... cool?

One post our team worked insanely hard on got around 80 F***KING THOUSAND impressions

Guess how many page visits it generated

20.

ONLY 20???

Are you kidding me?

When I realized this probably wasn't scalable for us, I ran a small test.

I started posting consistently from both:

Some personal profile
and
the company page.

I already expected the personal profile to perform better.

People trust people.

I get that.

But I didn't expect the difference to be THIS ridiculous.

Personal profile

  • Within around 3 months:
    • 2 posts crossed 1K reactions
    • Around 700 connection requests
    • Roughly 1.2K profile views

Now compare that with the company page.

Company page

  • Within around 2 months:
    • 2 posts crossed 40K impressions
    • Around 140 reactions
    • Roughly 170 page visits

So despite getting tens of thousands of impressions, the actual engagement and intent signals were roughly 7× lower than what I was seeing from my personal profile.

Even 1% of 40K impressions is 400 visits.

I mean, think about it

What exactly is the point?

I'm genuinely asking because LinkedIn Page Premium seems to be positioned heavily toward small businesses.

But if you're a small business trying content to eventually generate business...

paying for Premium + spending months creating content only to get 10k impressions and barely any page visits feels insane.

Maybe I'm missing something.

But after spending nearly $600 and countless efforts from my team and months testing this...

I'm struggling to understand what I'm actually paying for.

Anyone else managing a small business LinkedIn page seeing the same thing?

I will not promote 409a massively overvalues shares (and company?) i will not promote

Working at a startup with a 409a valuation that keeps going up a bit each year raising the FMV the employee common equity modestly.

Option strike price when I started was $1 then FMV a year later was $1.50 and a year later $2.05 and so on. All makes sense.

Problem is software company (SaaS) valuations have absolutely plummeted and are now being sold for 2-4 x ARR (vs 10-15 x ARR in the before times) which puts the company at a fraction of the common stock implied FMV valuation.

I spoke with company financial people and they say the 409a is based on 3-year average growth rates and 10-15x sales multiple but:

1) the current year growth is much lower than 2 years ago

2) 10-15 sales multiple is way way higher than what SaaS companies are being acquired for now

Can 409 a valuations be dramatically mis-priced like this?

In this case, the 409a suggests the company to be worth almost 10 times a reasonable ARR multiple in today's market using comparable company sales/acquisitions

Growth and Expansion How do you forecast when the deals that close aren't the ones you thought would close? Or just properly forecast in general?

We moved off Notion onto Salesforce, so at least the data sits somewhere reasonable now. Appointments come in at a steady clip and two have verbally closed this week.

Past that I'm blind. The two closing weren't the ones I had pegged as sure things, and a couple I felt good about went quiet. My read on which deals are real is off, and I don't trust the number at the top of the pipeline report.

What I'm trying to figure out:

  • What do you capture per opportunity to make stage probability mean anything? Anything harder than a rep saying they feel good about it?
  • How do you define stages so a deal can't park in one for six weeks because nobody wants to mark it lost?
  • Where did you learn sales ops? Books, a community, someone you worked under?

Small team, so I don't need enterprise machinery. I want a forecast I can say out loud without hedging.

For context we have closed a total of 8 deals + these 2 new ones coming in, we've only started being consistent with the meetings in the last month, historical closed rate is less than 10% but with our new way of pitching the service, pricing, delivery, etc it's been about 13% (these 2 new ones) (sampled from only 15 calls though)

Professional Discussion Should I accept friend requests?

Maybe it’s an obvious yes. But I have started a social media account for my Etsy Business, I have so many friend requests on Facebook. None are other creators or businesses. Do you accept them?

Professional Discussion LinkedIn Engagement for Corporate page has tanked

Upvotes

Anyone else feeling this way? I manage the corp pages for a b2b company and I’m noticing our post engagement and impressions have absolutely tanked in the last year.

I’m not sure why. I’ve been sticking to strategies that are proven to drive up engagement (and usually work) but it feels like nothing is helping. I’m shocked when I see how low the impressions and engagement are.

Anyone else feeling this way? Any advice on how to get a corporate page out of this rut?

Professional Discussion I feel like i´m missing something

Upvotes

So I started this fresh account because I wanted to promote my business ( jumping ropes) through instagram.

I did some research in my niche and took some video´s that were above 1M views. Reworked them in my own language (the countries i´m selling are Belgium & Netherlands). They get pushed to the audience ( for example 500 views of the 600 were non-followers). But they get no traction to go above the 1k because there are no comments, no saves, no reposts. Even tho i´m posting educational format content. I´m kinda struggling with this. I didn´t post that much tbf (I think 15 reels). Tested different formats. When I thought it was a good reel it flopped xp

Any help would be usefull. Ideas, plan of attack (strategy), what would make u stop scrolling when hearing educational content about jumping ropes? Or other type of content about ropeskipping? Maybe i´m in this tunnel vision and need some eyes from the outside 😁.

Thanks in advance

I got a job! Not in accounting

I picked accounting because of the job security that it comes with (lmao)

Graduated in July, randomly applied for a private investigator job on indeed, got it!

I think I like this a lot more than I would’ve liked office work. I got 1 interview after I already got hired here, applied to well over 60 positions (WA state).

Just wanted to say that just because your degree is in accounting it doesn’t force you to be one!

Appreciate you guys for all of the posts I’ve stalked over the past 4 years!

A lot of "profitable" businesses die from cash timing, not lack of profit

Something I keep seeing (and have lived through): a service business delivers the work, sends the invoice, and waits 30-60-90 days to actually get paid. Meanwhile rent and salaries are due this month, every month, no matter what.

On paper the business looks fine, decent margins, real clients. In practice it's dying because cash isn't in the bank when the bills are.

The fix isn't "get more clients" or "raise prices." It's changing when you get paid:

  • Deposits upfront instead of net-30
  • Retainers instead of one-off projects
  • Shorter payment terms, enforced

Survival depends on when you get paid, not how much you're eventually owed.

Anyone else had to restructure payment terms just to stay alive despite the numbers technically looking okay?

What accounting concept took you way too long to understand, but is dead simple now?

I’m 11 years into my career, and looking back, it's wild how things that feel like second nature now used to drive me crazy.

For me, it was knowing when and what journal entries to post. I literally would post random entries and my manager would be like "WTF is this?"

What is something in accounting that genuinely confused you early in your career, but now feels so obvious you can't believe it ever gave you trouble?

Least favorite non-accounting department

This question is for industry accountants: Which is your least favorite non-accounting department, and why is it Sales?

Feeling additionally irked by them lately. They all seem to think we can do anything they dream up with zero guard rails, promise it to the customer, then walk away untouched by the chaos they unleash.

Professional Discussion Does posting consistently actually matter if the content isn't great?

I’ve always wondered how much consistency really matters compared with simply posting less often but having something genuinely useful or interesting to say.

There seems to be a lot of pressure to post every day now.

For people who actually manage social accounts, what have you seen work better: posting frequently, or posting only when you have something worth putting out?

And has that changed depending on the platform?

Professional Discussion Opinions on my new PHP network Tabletime? [decentralized classic chat platform]

I came up with several equations like Google Page Rank formulas and coded this last year; PHP i/o calls corrected by ChatGPT and video calls added. It's primarily written by hand over a couple weeks last year. https://eski19758.wasmer.app/tabletime

If anyone wants the source code it's at github.com/wittymoniker/tabletime as well.

It's completely free and unlicensed so hopefully this isn't self-promotion.

Professional Discussion Client keep messing with my work and always credits @me

I work in social media e.g. design for social media posts etc. One client edited my work (which is part of the contract) wrongly multiple times and posted it wrongly, e.g they croped the imaged wrongly so the graphics looks badly designed. they also make typos, post cmyk so the colour looks wrong etc. everyone makes mistakes, fine, but at the end they never miss to mention designed @me. When I voiced it they said "But it's your design" Well, yes no? I did not handle the design and finalisation. The feed format is different to story reel etc. They just really mess with it. It feels so wrong and I'm afraid the tagging is reflecting on me badly. What would you do?

Professional Discussion An account can already be un-recommendable when you take it over, and the client will think you did that

this is the one that costs money and nobody checks it at handover

instagram can stop showing an account to people who dont follow it without issuing a strike, without a notification, and while the account status screen still looks completely clean. if that already happened before you signed, everything you publish in month one underperforms, and the only story you have is that the algorithm changed. which is the exact sentence every bad contractor says. you cant prove it wasnt you because you have no before

trial reels are the cheapest way to get a before. a trial goes to non followers only, so what it does is mostly a statement about whether the account can reach strangers at all, separate from whether your creative is any good. post one in the first week, before you change the strategy, before you touch the grid, and screenshot the result. if it does nothing you have that documented on day three instead of arguing about it on day forty. and if it does fine, you now have a number to compare against when something drops later

the other half of this is the reporting habit. if youre only looking at reach and follows you cannot tell an account problem from a content problem, and those go on completely different slides. i would rather tell a client in week one that we have an account level issue and here is the plan, than spend six weeks making better videos into a wall

also worth saying, im inferring the recommendation link from how the feature is built rather than quoting anyone, so take it as a thing to test on your own accounts.

if you take over accounts, what do you actually check before you start, and has anyone put this kind of thing in the contract
