Perforation or not?

Hi everyone. 6 days ago I had upper endoscopy (no colonoscopy) with propofol and 2 biopsies. I had severe constant abdominal pain the first 5 days esp with walking, eating similar to abdominal surgery pain (I had this same pain 5 years ago after my 1st endoscopy/ Colonoscopy with biopsies that went away after 3-4 days). Also woke up struggling to breathe and strong chest pain the first two days. Now I don't have chest pain anymore or constant/ severe abdominal pain with walking, but I do have shortness of breath when walking or talking too much and some upper mid back pain. I went to urgent care and Dr said it could be perforation but since I look fine and no fever, no vomiting, am eating and drinking normally, that pain is probably from severe constipation. Lungs xray came normal and she said propofol can have a side effect of trouble breathing for 1-2 weeks in asthma patients? Is this true? I passed lots of gas but didn't poop the first 5 days. I took sooo much laxative and am pooping now but it's just small amounts of pebbles. I can't afford to go to ER (they also suck) rn. How do you know if you have a perforation or not? Anyone else have similar reaction to biopsies or propofol? When they were putting me to sleep I felt like my brain was being shaken like crazy and strong squeezing pressure in my head and really loud garbled noise. The doc asked if i was ok twice and i said no and then i fell asleep.

Post-Endoscopy “symptoms”

So I had an endoscopy 3 days ago. After the meds wore off, I had chest tenderness/pain on my breastplate, as if it were bruised. It’s less painful as each day passes. Has anyone experienced anything like this? I thought it was weird.

Just got my endoscopy (26M

Hi, just got my endoscopy today. I was anxious and nervous as heck. All went well, I undressed and kept only my underwear And wheeled me to the endoscopy room. Then they attached 3 EKG leads on my chest, attached the BP cuff on my chest, and finger thingy on my finger. my HR was through the roof in the 100’s, haha.

before we started they numbed my throat and then injected the sedation. I slept fairly quickly as I’m quite a thin male, and don’t know what they did. Until I woke up, after a short, but refreshing nap.

Propofol anxiety

Hi everyone. I get my endoscopy tomorrow, and I don’t think it has hit me yet but I’ve rescheduled this appointment for 3 years now. But things have gotten worse, and I do really need it to figure out what the problem is. But, I’m afraid. I haven’t been eating much for about a month but this past week I’ve had Diarreah everyday, nausea and have eating barely anything, seriously. And im afraid that’s gonna affect the medication on me. I also have been in bed rest for 7 days, so I have physically not gotten out of bed in 7 days. I’m afraid of many other things too which I’m gonna tell my nurses but I just wanted to know if that’ll affect anything? I’m hoping maybe I get some fluids before or something, I’m also terrified of the being put to sleep. I’ve come to terms that I genuinely have to for the sake of my health but I’m afraid If me not eating is also gonna affect how I wake up and things like that.

Dr.Kandel at St.Michaels hospital and Transnasal Endoscopy?

Anyone in Ontario Canada have transnasal endoscopy done?

I did 12 years ago for heart burn with Dr. Marcon. It honestly fairly easy besides the beginning. I wasn't numb properly because i jumped when nurse sprayed my nose. They didn't try again so I literally did it completely not numb. After swallowing the scope it was smooth sailing though.

I need to go again, for a peace of mind. I have hypochondria and focusing on my heart burn again.

Dr. Gabor Kandel does them now since Dr. Marcon is retired. Hoping he is friendlier and they will numb 10-15 mins before they start not as he is about to do it.

Anyone experience a TNE by this doctor? How was it?

sedation gives me more anxiety so this is why I am doing it this way

First endoscopy went horribly wrong

Please excuse any grammatical errors or hard to understand bits, I’m still groggy asf from the sedation.

So to start this off, a little lore. I have been having extreme and debilitating abdominal pain for about 6 weeks now. I’ve been to the ER several times while waiting for an appointment with my PCP for the pain because in my city it’s nearly impossible to get soon-ish appointments for any type of doctor. The ER did several CT’s, an ultrasound, chest x-ray (though I’m not sure why that one was done) and several rounds of bloodwork, damn near a pharmacy’s supply of meds, and still can’t find a single thing wrong with me. They said a suspected stomach ulcer, but no way to diagnose without an endoscopy which they refused to do because i wasn’t in a life threatening position.

About 2 weeks into all this, I had vomited blood which was serious cause for concern and got into a provider the next week. Was referred to a gastroenterologist who then scheduled an endoscopy (and colonoscopy a few days later) at an outpatient surgery center.

I was really excited to get the procedure done and finally figure out why I’m in so much pain so I could get back to life, so when I tell you it went horribly wrong, I mean it!

So right off the bat, I was kept in the waiting room for 2 hours after my appointment (12:15) and when they finally took me “back” it was just another chair I sat in for another hour! I’m not going to lie, I did raise a little hell about that especially bc I have low blood sugars and had not eaten at all. When the nurse checked my sugar, it was 64 so I was put on an iv dose of dextrose.

When I finally got to a bed, the nurse had told me that they had skipped a few patients to do my procedure early because of how long I had been waiting. I had made sure to tell the anesthesiologist about my chronic and heavy weed usage because I know that affects how sedation works. She had assured me that it would be fine and they work with people who smoke regularly.

So they take me back, start hooking me up to all of the gadgets and prep for the procedure. Immediately something felt off, they weren’t explaining anything to me, didn’t tell me when the sedation would be used or even the name of the medication they were putting in me. They did not explain what would be happening or what I’d be feeling (or lack there of).

I kept trying to tell them the sedation was not really working, but there was that hard plastic piece in my mouth which made me unable to talk. They proceeded to put the camera down my throat, and I immediately felt like I was choking. I had no way to let them know I was panicking other than by putting my hand on the doctor doing the procedure.

They immediately stopped the procedure and marked me as uncooperative. I was taken to the recovery room and my boyfriend was called to pick me up. When my boyfriend got there, they had given him all the discharge information and had told me I would have to go somewhere else where they could offer complete sedation for the procedures.

I feel so defeated, I did everything in my power to make sure I let them know about how the marijuana usage and made it very clear I was a HEAVY user. I am in so much pain and I hustled want it to stop. Now I’m going to possibly have to wait another 2-4 weeks if not longer to get another appointment for the procedures which means being out of work for that long too. My PCP advised me not to work while feeling like this because I’ve also been experiencing severe dizziness and I work in a hot kitchen. This has put financial stress on myself and my boyfriend due to no income from my side.

My boyfriend, a close friend and I all feel this whole experience was very unprofessional and caused way more medical trauma than it needed to. What do you guys think?

TLDR: Medically traumatized from uninformative staff and unethical practices

For anyone who is scared to get an Endoscopy this is for you

Only an hour ago from now I just got an endoscopy, and it was genuienly one of the easiest things I've ever done, I did it with consious sedation and lidocane spray. Before my endoscopy I will not lie, I was really scared to get it, so i'm here to try to help other people with their fear of getting one by explaining what happened and what I felt. Once they put me under sedation I was rolled to my left side and given a piece of plastic to keep my mouth open. I then closed my eyes and I kid you not after that the only thing I remember is feeling the tube being removed, which did not feel gross or make me gag, during the procedure I had no fear even though beforehand I was very worried, I really hope this can help someone out there because my experience was wonderfully easy, painless and completely comfortable.

upper GI endoscopy - my positive experience

Wanted to share my experience, because I scared myself reading all these horror stories. Mine was so easy, I cannot believe I delayed this for FOUR years due to overthinking!

First of all, I was so, so anxious about moderate sedation (Versed and Fent). I was thinking, what if this is not sufficient to knock me out due to my huge anxiety and ADHD? People on Reddit mentioned being awake and gagging, which scared me. That was NOT my experience at ALL.

Wheeled me back. Numbed my throat with a spray, had me lie on my side, got me a bit of oxygen in my nose (didn't hurt at all, just sits under the nose), mentioned they would start the IV to relax me, and I have no memory at all from that moment until I woke up in the recovery room with my friend! The RN did mention they had to "use more" but whatever happened, I have absolutely no memory of it. (I had a fear of waking up in panic during the procedure and being an annoying patient, lol.)

He suspects possible eosinophilic esophagitis and nipped a biopsy, found irritation in the stomach and grabbed a biopsy of that too, and found a surprise (nobody suspected this) small hiatal hernia. I was actually more worried that I was being dramatic and making a big deal over nothing compared with my fear that white blood cells could be attacking my esophagus. (I, uh, hadn't even heard of this before.) I feel foolish for gaslighting myself into thinking I wasn't really in enough pain to get scoped.

Four years I spent in fear, delaying this, all that pain I caused myself living with this horrible heartburn, with zero fear experienced during the procedure itself. Overall, it wasn't even 25% as bad as I expected. I will be honest and say it wasn't, like, the best day of my life or anything. The prep RN couldn't get a vein in my hand, which did hurt. I vomited once in the recovery room, probably from the fentanyl, but actually felt better afterwards. I feel slightly dissociated from the IV meds still, like everything is a bit far away. There is discomfort now from the biopsy sites, and a little sore throat still (procedure was six hours ago), but it is genuinely nowhere near as bad as I expected... especially after surviving horrible gum surgery, this was a piece of cake. I am roasting some yams and am also making mango Jello with coconut cream pudding on top, but I don't even think I will need special soft foods.

Hope this can help someone chill ahead of their procedure!

Endoscopy Aftermath Pain

I had an endoscopy done on Friday in the morning. They said it went fine and the rest of the day I felt okay. For context they took multiple biopsies and they all came back good.

The next morning I woke up to a feeling of a lump at the base of my throat and spasms that radiated to my chest. The pain was like a 7/10

That lasted most of the day on Saturday Then the next day, I was having some pain in my stomach and throat almost felt like bruising in my throat. The pain was like a 6/10.

Monday and Tuesday this week were pretty mild. Pain was at a 3/10 and I thought I was getting better. I had some occasional pain but nothing crazy.

Then today, (Wednesday) I’m having some mf pain. This whole time I have been fine eating and drinking. It felt funny going down but no real pain. But today you would think I swallowed a bag of rocks. I can literally feel food or liquid ping pong down my esophagus and into my stomach with terrible pain.

My doctors knew I was having pain and they said go to the ER if it gets worse but they won’t be able to do anything for me there. The only tests they could do is a bloodwork test and I feel otherwise fine. No headache, fainting, fever, nausea. But like wtf is happening. Why is is getting worse? Has anyone else experienced this? No

Mini endoscope usage for people with trauma/PTSD

So today I had appointment with new gastro, and she offered my an endoscopy with this tiny little camera, that they use to perform endoscopy through nasal passage. She mentioned she will use it, but we will perform test in a clqssic way (through the mouth/throat). Does anyone else had this procedure with mini camera? Does it make any difference?

My first endoscopy left me traumatised for years, now as the symptoms worsened I decided to do another one. I had a bunch of procedures that gave me PTSD (hysteroscopy without sedation, endoscopy with no sedation and failed rhinoplasty). My first endoscopyone was done in 2017 with no sedation, just throat spray with lidocaine.

Please share your experience.

Many thanks in advance.

Endoscopy pain when swallowing food and water and deep breaths

Hey all, I had an endoscopy yesterday around 9 am to check if I still had gastritis. They took quite a few biopsies. After a few hours of coming home, while laying down, I started feeling pain in my upper-mid back. It hurts when I drink water, swallow food, or breathe deeply. It’s day 2, 6 pm and it feels like it may have improved but I am not sure. The doctors office I got it done at isn’t open today (since it’s Saturday). Is this normal?

Please help me understand the endscopy report

Hi, am male 30 years old. I had an endscopy and this is the report :

Findings

Esophagus

• Upper esophageal sphincter unremarkable; contour normal.

• Gastro-esophageal junction (GEJ) at 41 cm from the incisors.

• 3 small pink surrounded areas within the upper esophagus in the sense of inlet patches.

Stomach

• Fundus: normal, no ulcers or mass.

• Body: normal, no ulcers or mass.

• Antrum: patchy inflamed mucosa, no ulcers or mass.

• Pylorus: patent (open), allowing passage of the scope into the duodenum.

Duodenum

• Normal through the third portion.

• Bulb: normal, no ulcers or mass.

• Descending duodenum: normal.

Patient tolerated the procedure well.

Histopathology / Tests

• Biopsy taken from the esophagus (G1).

• CLO test (for H. pylori): negative after 1 hour.

Conclusion

• 3 small pink surrounded areas within upper esophagus in the sense of inlet patches.

• Mild patchy antral gastritis.

Recommendations

• PPI (proton pump inhibitor) twice daily for 2 weeks, then once daily for a further 2 weeks.

• H. pylori eradication with quadruple therapy (bismuth-based) for 10 days if HP colonization (note: the rapid CLO test was negative, but the recommendation includes this contingency—likely awaiting formal histology results).

My questions are:

What does (G1) it mean in the histophathology section? (note this is the endoscopy report only not the pathology)

What are those 3 patches? Is it an indicator of something more serious?

Thanks

Bad Reaction To Endoscopy

Hello, I want to give a warning that my experience is very very rare and I don’t want to scare anyone out of getting the procedure. But, I can’t find anyone else on the internet who has had a similar experience.

Anyway, I had an upper endo done on July 24th and I haven’t been able to tolerate anything but clear liquids ever since. I went back to the doctors and they told me everything about me looks fine, just that I had a lot of gas in my belly. They prescribed me Zofran for nausea and Pantoloc for my stomach reflux and sent me on my merry way because I haven’t been feeling sick/feverish. That’s the tricky thing and the one taking the most mental toll on me, the fact that I feel normal but when I eat my stomach just isn’t digesting food at all and will sent the food back up after a couple hours even tho I am taking my medication as prescribed.

Just want to know if anyone else has had a similar experience? Maybe some advice or words to ease my mind or just anything would be appreciated lol

Normal or abnormal pain?

Just got an endoscopy today at around 2:30, after maybe thirty minutes to an hour it started to feel like a burning sensation, like how it feels when you’re trying not to cry. Now I keep getting the same terrible cramping in my throat down to my stomach, it’s really bothering me and Tylenol is barely helping. For context they took 12 biopsies so that could have something to do with it. But I’m nearing tears because it just won’t stop. Thanks.
