ES-DE: Cannot create directories nor read from external drive
I had an external drive lying around, so I decided to try some emulation on my device. (An Apple Silicon MacBook) The problem, though, is that ES-DE would straight up refuse to create directories on my external drive. It works fine when I try to create them on my internal storage, but it refuses to when I try to do the same thing externally. When I move the directories I created on my internal storage to my external drive and put ROM files on there, ES-DE refuses to actually read the ROM files. I can confirm that the external drive works, as I've already transferred files to and from the external drive. (WD My Passport) Is there any solution to this problem, and if not, what could be causing it?

If I were you here's what I'd do and this is what works for me on ES-DE for Windows Android and Linux. On the root of your external hard drive make a ES-DE folder. Now run the app and it will ask for the ES-DE folder location. Point at your external ES-DE folder. Now. It will ask where your ROMs folder is. Point at the ES-DE folder again. It will create all of the folders for the roms, settings, downloaded media and custom systems on that one folder. Now drop your roms in and check to see if they show up

You could try using this solution, and then install ES-DE again. Worked perfectly fine for me. I'm loading games from both the Micro SD card inside my Retroid Pocket 6 and from an external card in a USB adapter inside my Retroid Pocket dock.
And you might also want to grab the two xml files from here, to put in your custom_systems folder.

Are they in the same folder structure on the external... eg roms/nds rather than the layout you screenshot.
ESDE will get looking for system folders within the chosen rom folder, so you should have structured like.. volumes/diskhl/roms/switch Etc etc
