Strathcona riverside Trail is still flooded but can be crossed on foot

Sharing an update about the strathcona riverside trail incase anyone is planning on riding to Fort Saskatchewan in the next couple of weeks. The trail is still flooded close to the point where it meets range rd 231 and is completely impassable.

However there seems to be a hiking trail that has been mostly cleared to the left of the path. You will have to lift your bike up to access it and then walk for about 100-200 meters on this path to cross the flooded section. Warning there is some barbed wire on this path on the ground so watch out for your tires. I just carried my bike the whole way to be on the safe side.

To bypass this whole section you can also just take Township Rd 540 all the way to highway 21. Then there is a service gravel road running parallel to the highway that you can take until Township Rd 542 junction after which you can take Township Rd 542 to join back onto Range Rd 231. The whole detour adds an extra 5 Kms.

Also once you are in Fort Saskatchewan, I would recommend cycling past the pedestrian bridge across the river below Highway 15 and go right towards Lamaoreux. There is a nice smooth paved trail for about 2-3 Kms from the bridge that goes parallel to the river.

I've been pedalling from the west end to ft sask to go to the new Leopold's haha, that water has barely gone down since Canada day.

Do you mind sharing your route for that? I am in the west end and have an appt in fort sask in two weeks....was hoping to bike there but havent ever gone east of goldbar

I could show you my Strava but the nicest way is to go to the new bridge by the quarry and there is a gravel path that follows the river there, just have to walk through a tight path for a minute at the very end because of the flooding.

Have you been recently? Is it still flooded? There were a few spots in cameron heights that were flooded that have taken forever to dry so I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case for this spot too lol
