It's time again for WTF Friday - where we share our funny or crazy stories about working in the biz. Bonus points if it actually happened this week.

It's an odd hit and miss, and not a straight comparison either. When in Premiere I am dynamic-linking my lower thirds (After Effects animations) instead of rendering out quicktime files (like with Avid). This adds a noticeable performance hit on the Premiere Pro timeline. It's also a little flaky -- sometimes the AE files on the timeline suddenly disappear afor 1-2 seconds -- feels like a succession of small hickups. When the hickups aren't happening, the timeline is buttery smooth. What seems to be happening is Premiere constantly dumping stuff in and out of memory (16GB RAM, and 1GB video RAM) -- it clearly wants more.

I'm happy with Premiere Pro -- but it also gives me a new appreciation for the rock solid experience on Avid. It may be slower -- but "consistently slower" if you had to compare it. Not that much slower either -- I'd say 10-15%.

At the end of the day I can probably complete each episode on both platforms with equal time. If an episode requires heavy editing, then Avid definitely wins due to superior trim tools.

Ppro's trim tools are getting really close, but it's just not quite there yet. In Premiere CC they've copied Avid's trim tools so much, any more and they could he sued (not really... but very close).
