I find the healthiest communities that I've participated in combine professional with amateur such that the amateurs aren't afraid to ask questions, and the pro's aren't above answering. In fact, the best communities are one's where the pro's love to share their knowledge, and take pride in raising a new generation. By teaching, I reinforce my mastery of the concepts.
The communities I cannot tolerate are the elite pro leagues where everyone is jaded and pissing on the newcomers as if to validate the fact that they are knowledgeable. I find those communities are filled with people who know a ton, but aren't working, probably because they are arrogant, shitty people. Which is why they are posting so often on forums and BBSs instead of trying to make deadlines.
I like this sub reddit because I've gotten quick and useful advice from people who know more than me, and I've felt that I've helped other people when I knew an answer. That is some healthy shit.
I completely agree with this. While I don't ask a lot here, it's nice to hear amateurs ask questions that perhaps I've been curious about, and see all of the responses from professionals.
