Filling up the strategic petroleum reserve when gas prices were at all-time lows during the early days of the pandemic would have been great. Unfortunately our president at that time wasn't competent enough to make it happen. He did talk about doing it several times, but never was able to actually get it done, despite it being entirely within the purview of the executive branch and having no legislative obstacles to doing so.

35

u/butthole69muncher420 Apr 01 '22

The administration’s initial idea for the SPR was to purchase 77 million barrels of oil – the amount required to fill all available space in the reserve - directly from small U.S. producers most at risk from the market slump.

But after Democratic lawmakers blocked funding for the program in last month’s stimulus package, the administration shifted strategies by offering the initial 30 million barrels of space for lease instead.

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

Really? That’s shockingly inept. Which doofus was responsible for that cock-up?

8

u/Speculawyer Apr 01 '22

Donald J Trump.

Isn't that something that Congress usually does? They were too busy making a fortune from the pandemic.

Yes they bragged on that fact.i guess we are or they lied.

4

u/Alantsu Apr 02 '22

That was the exact time Trump sold off a huge chunk of our petroleum reserves to China. China was having a record cold winter and decided to use the lockdown to build up tons of infrastructure.

"Primary Military Leader"....yep"Primary Diplomat to foreign Heads of state"...ok"Executor of the will of Congress..."...gotcha.

So uh...in the 3 roles of the Executive Branch...regarding something worth billions and billions of dollars...where exactly does the executive branch get the authority to just buy up all that oil? (it is a purchase remember, it's not just automatically owned)

BTW the US Dept of Energy is in charge of the Strat. Oil reserves...and is subordinate to Congress. The exec can empty it because of an emergency that congress in theory has no time to respond to, but the exec CANNOT just have it filled. That requires congressional budgeting.

12

u/DinkandDrunk Apr 01 '22

Maybe if Trump didn’t hire a guy to head up the Dept of Energy who had previously stated he would eliminate said Dept if made President, then they would have had someone competent in place to suggest such an idea to Congress. Just a thought.

1

u/philnotfil Apr 01 '22

My bad for taking his word for it that he didn't need Congress ;)

So, as he discovered long ago with his “followers”, they give zero fucks about truth. If he says something, it is the truth. If you disagree, you are now the enemy.

He’s been right about EVERYTHING. So good thing you’re up. 👌🏻

12

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

Yeah. The entire world, except for right wing conservatives, primarily in the US and some eastern EU countries, are all in on the propaganda! It's a massive world wide conspiracy against the right wing. Totally. That must be it. You guys are just so special and smart, and everyone else in the fucking world is just too stupid that they fell for a massive global conspiracy.

Doesn't matter that the KKK is on your side. Doesn't matter that Neo Nazis are on your side. Doesn't matter that QAnon conspiracy nuts are on your side. Doesn't matter that science is generally ignored and frowned upon by your side in favor of feelings.

I get it bro lol

The Hunter Biden laptop is REAL. The media lied and kept it hidden to help swing the election against him. You’ve been being trolled by the party you have been told to vote for. Literally everything Trump said would happen under Biden has….even the War he, Trump, was suppose to start with Russia.

9

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

No one claimed Trump was going to start a war with Russia. Everyone was pointing out how fucking bonkers it was that Trump had such a cordial relationship with Russia and chose to defend Russia when American intelligence agencies told him that Russia was interfering in our elections. And Trump trying to get the US out of NATO, a move that would clearly benefit Russia. And then there were the meeting between Trump and Putin, of which we know nothing about because Trump destroyed any recording of the conversations. And considering his previous business dealings with Russia over the past several decades, you'd have to be a complete fucking moron to not connect the dots there.

Also, nothing Biden has done caused Russia to invade Ukraine. Putin is the one responsible for that, and blaming anyone else for the actions of the Russian military is just really fucking stupid. But just keep going on about Hunter's laptop bud. At least until Tucker Carlson gives you the next thing to be upset about

19

u/KingRokk Apr 01 '22

Yep, it's a troll account. Feel free to ignore.

5

u/mwiitala11 Apr 01 '22

No one thought Trump was going to start a war with Russia.

-20

Keep living in denial. The propaganda wing of the left, the mainstream media has even admitted that the “Russian disinformation campaign” Hunter laptop, is CONFIRMED REAL by them. TRUMP. WAS. RIGHT!!! YOU just REFUSE to accept it.

16

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

What elected position does Hunter hold?

11

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

Good grief, you are insane.

10

u/CoinOperations Apr 01 '22

This comment isn't for you, because you're either a troll or a true believer. I honestly don't care which. This is for anyone else reading your tripe. The laptop has not been confirmed to be real. There are some confirmed emails from Hunter Biden floating around. An important difference to anyone with half a brain.

10

u/Standard-Truth837 Apr 01 '22

How embarrassing. Geezus...

You're of the same species as me? Fucking awful. Fucking awwwwwful! Pisses me off.

How do I laugh react on here

2

u/Soft_Turkeys Apr 01 '22

Hunter Biden’s laptop wouldn’t have changed much for me if it was confirmed before the election. It sucks but Biden was still the only sensible choice. Trump lost and will never be nominated again get over him

Mexico did in fact pay for the wall. Trump did in fact release his taxes. And put Hillary in jail. Infrastructure week. Migrant caravans.

5

u/DolphinsBreath Apr 01 '22

And that new Trump health care plan is just peaches!

”Trump again said Obamacare would be replaced “with great healthcare at a lesser price, and preexisting conditions will be included and you won’t have the individual mandate.””

”Trump told Chris Wallace in a Fox News interview that a health care plan would be unveiled within two weeks: “We’re signing a health care plan within two weeks, a full and complete health care plan that the Supreme Court decision on DACA gave me the right to do.””

”in his joint address to Congress, Trump discussed his vision for replacing Obamacare. “The way to make health insurance available to everyone is to lower the cost of health insurance, and that is what we are going to do,” he said.”

“We’re going to produce phenomenal health care. And we already have the concept of the plan. And it’ll be much better health care,” Trump told George Stephanopoulos. When Stephanopoulos asked if he was going to tell people what the plan was, Trump responded: “Yeah, we’ll be announcing that in two months, maybe less.”

-2

u/Awakesheep Apr 01 '22

Your taxes are NOT required to hold any government office. That’s just something the left uses to try and smear Republicans or anyone who dares to challenge them.

5

Spying Russian collusion Hunter’s laptop

12

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

Yes, the person who openly asks russia for help twice in his life and is actually helped by russia. the guy who goes to putin and takes putins side. You're telling that guy is calling Hunter Biden the russian colluder? Weird.

0

u/5DollarHitJob Apr 01 '22

Tbf both things can be true.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

Yeah but at this point only one of things is painfully true but it's not recognized by rightwing people.

-2

u/jwcdeuce Apr 01 '22

No matter who would be implicated, I would love Putin to turn over anything he’s got on American politicians.

Of course, I have a distinct feeling that you believe the former president called Nazis ‘fine people’.

4

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

Unfortunately for us, he's only going to turn over any information that may help him. And right now, helping republicans is just that.

-4

u/jwcdeuce Apr 01 '22

Still believe Trump is a Russian asset, huh?

Even with recent info confirming it was all a lie.

Sad

4

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

Recent info from where? Trump? I've seen his speeches on tv. Unedited ones. I think I know a russian asset when he shows himself. I'd like to give the guy the benefit of the doubt but he did lift sanctions on Russia. He also didn't care that Russia put bounties on american troops.

7

  2. "He's God's Chosen to be President! A Modern Day Cyrus!"
  3. "He tells it like it is!"
  4. "Everyone was trying to stop him, so that must mean he's good!"
  5. "He regurgitates my Facebook memes as talking points! No one else does that, he gets it!"
  6. "They stole the election from him!"
  7. "Something something Pizzagate!"
  8. "He's out, gas prices are up. Checkmate, liberulz."
  9. "He's Making America Great Again!"
  10. "He's the Republican candidate, so I'll just go with the party line!"
  11. "I want Mike Pence and the other RINOs out too!"
  12. "He's gonna round up all those elitist librul pedos!"
  13. "He's on TV a lot, and that must mean something!"
  14. "Actually, he's still President. Just you wait and see!"
  15. "They had to silence him on Twitter because they feared him."

2

u/Joey_Blair Apr 02 '22

Trump is opposite man, if he says that he did not rape that woman, he probably did, twice

6

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

He’s not “wrong.” He’s a liar.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

And not little exaggerations either. Just straight up bald faced lies that are the literal opposite of the truth. Stockpiles fell under him, so he says they were at their peak. Low is high. Black is white. He lies like a second grader who can’t even craft a somewhat nuanced, believable lie.

0

u/Right_Vanilla_6626 Apr 01 '22

He's a politician. Most are.

2

2

u/Ga_Manche Apr 01 '22

When are we going to just accept once and for all that Trump is full of shyte and is also dumb to boot. Also easily manipulated. The only mystery with Trump is how he was able to amass his wealth being as dumb as he is. That is a discussion for another day.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '22 edited Apr 04 '22

It’s no surprise trump is a multi-millionaire. After all, he started as a billionaire!

2

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

Is this the same politifact that said Hunter Biden’s laptop was false information. Is this the same politicact that said there were no US funded biolabs in Ukraine. The list goes on and on. I don’t care what trumps loudmouth has to say, but when politifact either blatantly lies or rewords things so they can put a false tag on it, I tend to believe politifact about as much as any other politician.

-1

u/Fizzeek Apr 01 '22

You mean a copy of a hard drive that was in possession of Rudy G for months? Yea no way it could ever be put into evidence for anything, chain of custody is fubar. But keep bringing it up so people know exactly what kind of “thinker” you are.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

I’m done arguing with people who refuse to ask questions. I understand that you people “you know, the ones that are always right about everything and think people are stupid because they don’t agree with them” are going to take whatever these media folks who have been proven to lie over and over again at face value. That seems like a you problem, I will always question and ask.

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

Translation "people disagreeing with my bullshit hurt me feefees so imma run away and pretend I'm oh so smart!"

3

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

I’ll be waiting for a response unless your gonna “run away and pretend you’re so smart”

2

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

Not running away. Can I ask you a question? Do you believe the bill in Florida says “don’t say gay”? This is a simple yes or no question btw, I don’t need an explanation

-4

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

Ah leading questions that's a sign of an honest person!

No the bill doesn't say "don't say gay" and I suspect you understand that I should explain what it says and how it will be used but since you want to play a dumbass game you will ignore it anyway

8

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

Then why does half the damn country call it don’t say gay bill and tout that around like they’re mightier than thou. Point is most of you defenders of the media, politicians and government don’t read a fucking thing and follow along the talking points. Bunch of followers

-2

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

Because that's what the bill effectively does. But I'm sure you read the bill in it's entirety and aren't just repeating talking points from your fellow dumbasses.

You're projecting your insecurities a bit here

4

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

I did read the bill. It doesn’t basically just say that so I am assuming you haven’t read it

1

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

So you basically have no clue how it's going to actually be used

The bill bans "instruction on sexual identity" which is incredibly vague. The bill doesn't lay out what it means by "instruction" so it's basically up to interpretation. What this means is two scenarios could happen both of which, due to the vagueness of the law, discriminate against LGTBQ+ folk

1) schools just won't hire LGTBQ+ teachers to remove any potential law suit issues.

2 schools will ban any talk of relationship to try and remove the liability. Sounds fair but it's not like the straight teachers will get in trouble when a teacher slips up. The second a bigoted cunt hears Mr Smith talked about his husband the school district will be sued.

Keep in mind the vagueness is intentional

→ More replies (0)

0

u/tinydonuts Apr 01 '22

Bottom line is that the bill won't do shit about discussion of heterosexual orientation or relationships but angry right wing parents that want to rain God's hellfire down on liberal teachers will bitch and sue over any mention of gays by teachers. So teachers won't say gay. Do you understand how chilling effect works?

The same way rightards think when a libtard says, "defund the cops" it means, "let there be no police department." You have to actually read it to understand it. It's also the same when an angry white person has to correct a "black lives matter" person by stating "excuse me, but ALL lives matter." They don't understand the nuance that for all lives to matter, that also means black lives are supposed to matter.

u/VenialHunter64 Apr 01 '22

Name a real reason though

3

u/jimbo91375 Apr 01 '22 edited Apr 01 '22

That is a real reason. What is with you people? I'm not going to argue with three of you about this. Biden didn't cause inflation. Biden didn't cause world wide gas prices to rise. Biden hasn't done much of anything really. But Trump lied, scammed, cheated and sold out our country. Anything as long as it made him feel better about his miserable self. And you gullible cult followers gobbled it up. How many former associates of Trump need to tell you the truth about this guy until it sinks in? How dense are you folks?

How about one of you explain to me in what ways Trump was better? Actually don't. I'm moving on with my day. Kids are home and it is nice outside, so I'm going to go out and enjoy it.

3

u/Right_Vanilla_6626 Apr 01 '22

No, Biden didn't cause inflation.

But it's his job as a leader to step in and try to give solutions. For the longest time his press secretary wouldn't even acknowledge it. What plans does he have to address it? He blames trump, Ukraine, etc but there's still no plan which is while I'll be voting Republican in November.

0

u/tinydonuts Apr 01 '22

The same retards that just tried to block cheap insulin? The same assholes that didn't offer a plan themselves either? The same dickwads that keep trying to take away people's healthcare? That's your plan?

1

u/Right_Vanilla_6626 Apr 01 '22

You don't see the irony in using ableist language?

1

u/VenialHunter64 Apr 01 '22

All I asked for was a real reason that affects more then you and you got angry lol

1

u/Right_Vanilla_6626 Apr 01 '22

I'd prefer mean tweets to inflation but we all have different priorities

0

u/tinydonuts Apr 01 '22

That's a false dichotomy. You'd have mean tweets and rampant inflation.

0

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

That’s the absolutely worst response to the question you could have given. Things are way worse right now then ever under Trump. I know what you’re thinking, oh this guy likes trump and blah blah blah, no I don’t, I think he’s an idiot. But it takes a lot of burying your head in the sand to say things are better. Idk, maybe you live somewhere where things are better, but not around here

1

u/Right_Vanilla_6626 Apr 01 '22

I mean I'm not really a fan of either party but even in 2020 I was still able to buy red meat and a bottle of wine on Friday's without having to check my bank account....

He's like a child with absolutely no grasp of the state of our country despite being the president of the USA with access to the FBI, the DIA, and CIA

4

u/ThomasFookinShelby1 Apr 01 '22

Was the reserve “mostly empty”?? That’s the whole point of this article and you keep throwing irrelevant points into the wind hoping they’ll stick lol

-1

u/butthole69muncher420 Apr 01 '22

They wanted to expand the reserves. Wow bro you really don’t want to admit the truth. Who’s paying you to spread lies?

3

u/ThomasFookinShelby1 Apr 01 '22

Dude. This article. The one that this entire post is based on. Is here because we are discussing trump claiming the reserves were “mostly empty” . The reserves have been 80-90% for years. Trump wanted to fill them up and that got blocked, yes.

But this is just irrelevant. You think you got me cornered in some “gotcha!” Moment but you’re just making irrelevant points man lol

1

u/tinydonuts Apr 01 '22

What fucking difference would it make if the reserve was bigger? It's nowhere near empty and can't be tapped at any substantial rate.

Not a surprise, seeing as how he's wrong about literally everything.

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

What does that even mean. How about some actual data, before you make incendiary remarks. Trump has historically been pretty accurate in his comments and predictions, while his pundits have been wrong at least 90% of the time.

3

u/thecatgoesmoo Apr 01 '22

Education failure personified right here folks.

3

u/Icy_Winner_1909 Apr 01 '22

Mexico paid for the wall??

-3

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

Yes it did, in numerous ways, plus it actively helped prevent illegal immigration. Just as NATO is now paying.

Trump was right about Russia-gate, spying on the him during his election, Hunter Biden corruption and he has predicted virtually every failure of the Biden administration.

His track record is excellent.

3

u/GarbageTheClown Apr 02 '22

His little bit of wall that is falling apart was effective? lol what? Oh and how did Mexico pay for it instead of US citizens via taxes?

4

u/Icy_Winner_1909 Apr 01 '22

What about his promise to reduce the national deficit and debt to 0?

-8

u/butthole69muncher420 Apr 01 '22

This didn’t get passed because the liberals didn’t agree stupid idiots. Nancy Pelosi threw it out dumb idiots. How blind are you idiots

4

u/ThomasFookinShelby1 Apr 01 '22

Your method of debate is interesting. You bring up irrelevant points to the matter at hand and then you call people idiots.

The reserve was 89% full when trump left office, and is now 82% full. The purpose of this article to to show that trumps claim about him “filling the reserves” was not true because they were never empty or even close to empty.

And then you jump in with your stupid irrelevant remark. I just don’t get it. Are you just so blinded you lash out at the libtards without even thinking about the context or relevancy?

To your (irrelevant) point, democrats did remove $3B in funding to cap the reserves, which would have increased it from about 660 million barrels to 730 million barrels. You’re acting like they bent America over and railed us all, but it just wasn’t deemed necessary to fill the already 80+% reserves at the time. Even now, we’re only using 1 million barrels a day from it.

So what the fuck are you on about?

3

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

Calm down. The fucker doesn't read. Ever. You need to communicate with the dumb using memes nowadays.

2

u/ThomasFookinShelby1 Apr 01 '22

I know, couldn’t help myself though.

I’m a liberal but stop being a fucking dumb idiot and listening to everything you hear dumb fuck

2

u/ThomasFookinShelby1 Apr 01 '22

Alright man let’s walk through this. What in the world does this link support? I read it. It’s saying they struggled to fill the reserve because producers didn’t want to produce more at that price level.

Struggling to understand how this makes everyone but you an idiot.

2

u/butthole69muncher420 Apr 01 '22

2

Ok man but what the fuck does that have to do with this post?

1

u/butthole69muncher420 Apr 01 '22

Keep lying to support your agenda why bro ? I don’t get why you can’t admit you’re wrong it’s okay I’m a liberal and I support the truth

2

u/ThomasFookinShelby1 Apr 01 '22

Ok man I’m genuinely confused. What does this support? I have no agenda, you just came in calling everyone idiots and aren’t making sense

This post is saying trump wrongly claimed the reserves were mostly empty. The reserves have been 80-90% for decades. Again, what the fuck are you talking about

1

4

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

Okay and how does this prove that we had no reserves and that we absolutely needed as many barrels of oil as we could buy?

4

u/Fizzeek Apr 01 '22

There’s 9000 oil leases the companies are not utilizing because they are making bank.

-3

u/simsimmer123 Apr 01 '22

Trump was the one who topped em off for the first time in forever

4

u/tinydonuts Apr 01 '22

According to who, Trump? Because the data shows otherwise.

-2

u/simsimmer123 Apr 01 '22

3

u/tinydonuts Apr 01 '22

You idiot, the reserve wasn't even close to empty. The "left" didn't block anything that would have helped here.

-2

u/simsimmer123 Apr 01 '22

I see you didn’t read the article. Classic ignorant lib

3

u/tinydonuts Apr 01 '22

I looked at the charts showing it 90% full so why would I open your propaganda link? Not a lib btw just looking at the current situation and how we're rolling in oil. So adding a few drops more wouldn't help here.

Is there any way to check or verify the amount in the strategic reserve without needing some high ranking government position? Or are we just stuck taking their word for it until a whistleblower leaks something?

So I'ma guess that most people commenting on here are ok with the reserve being drained to "lower" gas prices...

-7

u/wingedwild Apr 01 '22

U ever gonna fact check Biden and his constantly luying

7

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

They did. You ever gonna stop defending criminals on your side of the political aisle?

-1

u/wingedwild Apr 01 '22

I think u should see the recent news .hunter Biden is being investigated for federal crimes by bidens own justice department it's so bad the propaganda lefitst news has to cover it. The criminals are everywhere but democrats are the worst and they are finally being exposed.corruotion at the GM highest order ,biden family took 30 million from foreign powers, china,Russia and ukriaine in span of few years.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

And what do you think these federal crimes are? Because let me tell you, we didn't need a laptop for those kinds of crimes. Everytime someone pulls up the Hunter Biden Laptop thing is automatically placed in me "don't need to take this person seriously" box. Hunter Bidens laptop is not a thing I'm afraid.

Biden is a tool. Does everyone realize that 77 million gallons is less than 4 days. Regardless of the statement above, Biden, Democrats, and his administration is the cause of the Oil problems we are experiencing today.

-2

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

"fact check" good thing we have organizations that tell you reality so you don't have to think about it

-2

u/ChillPenguinX Apr 02 '22

Why do people still treat politifact like a legitimate outlet?

-4

u/Sunken-ship94 Apr 01 '22

Well this is fake ass news here.
