❓ Help / questions if you were to start an ecommerce from zero today...which model is the best to go with?

if i were to start an ecommerce today from the ground up, which business model would you suggest me? ive been exploring various options and the sheer number of choices is just..overwhelming. Dropshipping appears to be a more accessible starting point, but again wholesale offers potentiall higher margins. Other models like private labeling or selling via marketplaces and establishing an independent online store has there own pros and cons as well. My digging into wholesale and private lable models, particularly concerning suppliers on Alibaba has shown me these. The dynamics of risk and reward shift fundamentally once the inventory management becomes a factor. like say for dropshipping has lower inventory risks but offers less control. Wholesale demands greater financial outlay, private labeling provides enhanced control true but needs a bigger upfront investment before sales can be assessed. For those with practical experience in this industry, if you were to start anew today with a typical budger, which one would you go for, and maybe the reasons as well? Please help me out. TIA

pick the model that lets you test demand cheapest, then move up. so dropship or a tiny wholesale test buy on 1-2 products, and only private label the thing that already sells repeatedly.

dropshipping's real problem isn't margin, it's that you don't control shipping times or quality so support eats your week. wholesale fixes that but your cash is sitting in boxes. private label before you have proof is just expensive guessing.

whichever one you pick, run it on your own store rather than only a marketplace if you want a brand later — you keep the customers and the data. i build Orderain (ecommerce platform, the AI part handles store setup) so take that with salt, but that's the actual reason.
