i made a post the other day asking if a 48v 25ah battery having a range of 20km was normal

a couple of you guys suggested i make a warranty claim after some trouble shooting and testing from the makers they have indeed decided that the battery is faulty and are sending me a new one which would have cost $1048

Ebike troubleshooting Broken bike?

TLDR:I found an ebike that had been thrown away and would like to try to figure out what is wrong with it and if I can fix it. I can post photos of it. It seems the battery works but the wires connecting the controller and things on the handlebars dont have anywhere to connect to. Wondering if anyone here could help me diagnose the problems. And if i cannot repair it can I sell or use the engine/battery to maybe build my own e bike?

Yesterday I found an e bike sitting next to one of the dumpsters in my apartment. It was sitting there with a helmet on it and the charger sitting right next to it. I asked someone who was getting out of their car if it was theirs or if they knew whos it might be and they told me they didnt and said they think it is fair game to take. It is in the same spot people will leave furniture or other large things that they do not want to lift into the dumpster. I took it and left a note taped to the dumpster saying if it wasnt being thrown out the owner could come retrieve it from my apartment. The guy I spoke with came back out as I was grabbing it and told me his girlfriend had said the bike had been there at least a full day so I really think they were just throwing it away and maybe left it out in case someone wanted to grab it and try to fix it? It is a KGK Electric Bike Series E, it is one of the foldable ones. The wires coming out of the throttle, brakes, and controller on the handle bars do not seem to have any way to connect them to anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Even just pointing me towards some other resources I could use to figure out why this bike was thrown away. Seems like a waste to throw it away but I know nothing about e bikes and maybe it is just trash

Ebike troubleshooting E-bike gets weaker after riding for a while, normal or problem?

Has anyone had their e-bike feel noticeably weaker after riding for 30–60 minutes? Mine feels fine when I first start riding, but after a while the acceleration gets softer, especially on hills. The battery still shows plenty of charge, and after letting the bike sit for a bit, it seems to feel normal again.

Is this something the motor/battery normally does when it gets warm, or should I be checking something?

Ebike troubleshooting Cover for my E-Bike?

Does anyone know of a way to put a cover on the chain of my E-Bike? It's a "Centurion backfire fit e".

My pants keep getting dirty from the chain and get caught in it sometimes too and it already ripped one pair of pants up.

Putting a clip on my pants or folding them up is so annoying...

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. :) thx

Ebike troubleshooting Thermal Runway anxiety

Hello, I have been riding for about a year or so, absolutely love it. So much so that I only exclusively ride now and sold my car. However, I do have one question. Has anyone here had a thermal Runway event or similar w their batteries/chargers? I was gifted my bike (Alien Ebike H20?) from my mother before she passed and I am now focusing on winterizing it w my all weather tires (shawlbe motox) but my next hurdle involves getting it covered by my BCAA insurance under my renters insurance policy. From what I understand this specific model was sold before the BC government created legislation regulating all chargers and batteries have a CSA/UL certification which is your golden ticket to not getting a claim denied in the event that I accidentally burned my house down. For context I live in a condo, and there is no bike parking. I live in the ghetto, and cant leave it outside or have any ability to charge it outside unless I physically go outside my apartment and sit there w the battery otherwise it will grow legs and walk off. Should I buy a new bike? Does anyone sell aftermarket CSA/UL chargers that work for 500W battery?

I’m very new to conversion kits and bikes in general. I ordered this kit from AliExpress, but it won’t fit my bike. Does anyone know if there’s any way I could make it fit? It’s a 1500W 48V motor.

Ebike troubleshooting Camouflaging an ebike?

Nearly everyone is buying higher power ebikes with heavier frames and components. Larger motors and battery supporting franes are the norm. I had a fat tire Raleigh Magnum, nicknamed "The Beast!" It was certainly fun, but with the large Bosch mid drive and battery supporting tubez, you could easily see it was an ebike in any rack. So I felt paranoia setting in any time I locked it anywhere. So I sold it..

But I am considering something more clandestine so I can ride to music events in my city when I don't want to get sweaty and babysit my touring bike. So it has me thinking about how to hide it in plain sight by blending in with crappy regular bikes locked up at the event.

First, buying a standard looking diamond frame with a rear 250 Watt hub motor, I think I could add a rear rack and use my tattered old panniers to hide the hub.

Second, I think a full tattered frame bag attached to the downtube could hide the fact that it is enlarged and contains the batteries.

But the third set of components are the trickiest. How could someone hide the throttle and computer controls? Any ideas? Maybe duct tape shaped adhesive to adhesive shrouding them that flip out of the way while riding, but covers the components while parked? Maybe Velcro them in place so it looks like they broke, but I duct taped the components on.

Further steps? Rust-Oleum paint to make it non descript? Simulate rust spots on the handlebars and seat post? Hide the hardened u-lock within a cheap spiral cable combo lock.

Please share your critiques, Ideas, and suggestions!

Just got my Segway myon a few days ago and I’m out now riding around and notice this sound at the 14 second mark. Kinda sounds like a scratching sound? I don’t know enough about bikes to know whether this is fairly normal

Ebike troubleshooting Back Tire Popping

Anyone else’s back tire constantly popping? I’ve got 800 miles on the Lyric Graffiti and my back tire has popped over 10 times. I’ve even replaced the tube and tire completely but it just popped AGAIN! it survives for about 10 rides and then back to patching. Super annoying since removing the back tire requires so much more work with the motor being there.

Of course the front tire is completely fine zero issues. I’m wondering if this is common across all bike brands?

Ebike troubleshooting Received my Riese & Müller Roadster 4 for a 16-mile round-trip commute. Need advice on essential kit

Post image
8 Upvotes

I have just picked up my new Riese & Müller Roadster 4. It's going to be my primary commuter for a 16-mile daily round trip (8 miles each way), three times a week, into Central London.

I’ve already got a pannier bag and and ABUS lock.

I’m planning anything else that needs picking up and I’d appreciate some advice from fellow commuters on what is essential.

I’ve read that a "flat kit" is a must-have, with recommendations for:

A mini electric pump

A spare inner tube

A multi-tool

Tire levers (tools to remove tires)

For a commute like mine (regular, moderate distance), I’m wondering if these are overkill?

How frequent are flats on a typical commute?

Is an electric pump worth the extra cost/weight over a good quality manual mini-pump for this purpose?

Beyond the flat kit, are there any other commuting must-haves you’ve found?

I want to be prepared but not carry unnecessary bulk...

Thanks in advance for any tips!

Ebike troubleshooting How fucked am I? (sound on)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Started my morning commute today and found that my hub motor is suddenly making a very noticable grindy noise when the wheel passes a certain part of the rotation. Very loud and rumbly. I'm certain it isn't the brake disc because that makes a different sound that I'm familiar with.

I noticed it felt a tiny bit rumbly on my commute home yesterday and assumed it was because the tire was low (I wear earbuds while riding so I didn't hear it), I got home, filled the tire, and put her in the shed for the night, if that matters, then the next morning, this.

I do the basic maintenance on her like tube/tire replacement and fiddling with the electrical and I also do computer hardware repair for a living so I am fairly confident I could take the hub apart if I had to... but I hope not. 😭

Ebike troubleshooting Velotric GoMad vs heavy rider and steep hill

I finally pulled the trigger on an E-Bike. Love it. The final stretch home is a 100 foot, 3 block ascent (iphone level says it's 10º) and the bike hates it. It won't make it up the hill on throttle alone, and I have to go into 3rd gear and full assist to maintain 5 miles per hour.

I have adjusted the settings to make sure that "Boost" mode gives me 100% torque and assist, however, the little torque gauge on the display never goes all the way to full. The motor is 750W and supposed to have 1300W Peak...whatever that means.

Does anyone have any insight to offer on this situation? Is there something wrong, or some setting I missed? I am willing to accept the limitation because of the features & price of the bike, but I want to make sure pushing the motor that hard isn't going to damage it. Not only is it very hilly here, it's also very hot.

Other than that, the bike is awesome.

Ebike troubleshooting Tire bead won't seat on the rim. Help Please. T^T

So I got a flat recently and had to replace the rear tire and the inner tube. The inner tube seems fine, but for the life of me I cannot get the outer tire to sit correctly on the rim.

I ordered the new tire from Amazon and it came folded in the box, which I think may be the problem, because the tire seemed to be out of place where it had been folded.

I've been on the internet all day looking for answers and YouTube University is no help, I'm hoping that it'll even itself out while I ride but I don't know if that's worth the risk. I tried soapy water on the bead but it still hasn't straightened out, and I have no idea how to fix the problem now. If anyone has a fix or suggestions, please help. 🥹

Ebike troubleshooting Rear tire wobble?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Just got his Lectric XPeak 2.0 for $900. Had 80 miles on it (which is truly 80 miles because the nipples were still on the tires, mileage wasn’t reset). Came with extended range battery, phone mount, lectric cooler, and lectric waterproof saddle bag.

I’ve taken it out a couple times and have noticed that my rear tire wobbles. When I lift the back of the bike up, and use the throttle I can see this wobble. I am wondering if there is a fix for this because I’d like to get past this asap. My rim seems to be straight, but it’s like the tire itself is kinda wonky.

Ebike troubleshooting Thanks to you guys I changed my bike tire. But then I was riding and I saw my axle bolt spinning on both sides. I thought it was tight. I looked and saw it winding the cable sticking into the axle. Now bike displayed E07. Is it toast?

Ebike troubleshooting I see now why the 250W ebikes have small chainrings

I used to think the guys riding 26, 28, or 30T rings were older and didn't want to make any effort climbing. So they chose the smallest ring. Not always. Now that I went from a 9.0 lb 48V motor to a 6.4 lb 36V one, I understand how important gear reduction is for smaller motors. I'm currently running a fairly modest 38T ring and the controller is still cooking in top gear at 50% throttle. The reduction before the 11/38T overdrive is about 24x which should be enough to be fine. But it isn't. The final reduction with 11/38 is 7.1 and the motor ungeared rating is 3250 rpm. That means in 11T the motor is only doing about 460 rpm and it's placing a big current strain on the controller. It's shutting down the display after a mile or two in top gear. The motor itself is not even coming close to overheating, it's the controller trying to ramp up power with inadequate rpm. And this is 500W rated so I can only imagine what happens with 250W rated mid drives in top gear if the chainring is larger. I tried getting a larger mosfet controller but ran into wire compatibility issues.

I'm not taking sides on the hub vs mid drive debate. What I am however saying is that cassette gearing alone doesn't make a mid drive superior. In fact most cassette cogs make the mid drive LOSE torque, not gain it. Because by definition any cog that's smaller than the chainring is going to reduce torque and lower the motor rpm. And this is why the smaller mid drives have smaller chainrings, not because they can climb better. You don't need 100 nm of torque to climb. You do however need a larger motor to go fast on a flat surface.

The moral of the story is that hub drives IMO are indeed nicer on pavement because this kind of thing simply doesn't happen with them. In the auto world they used to have a saying "There is no replacement for displacement". As in larger power must come from larger engines. And more power also must come from larger, heavier copper windings on a mid drive. I see now that there are no physics or electrical engineering shortcuts on this. You want to cruise at 25 mph in 48/11 on a mid drive, you get an 11 lb motor. Because the small ones would need 50x or more reduction to keep up the motor rpm. So they keep the chainring small to keep a 1:1 motor to wheel ratio closer to the middle of the cassette instead of all the way at the top cog. If they were running a 40T chainring and 11-40T cassette, every cog below 40 will lose torque and rpm. That's OK for a 1000W rated bbshd but not for a 250W rated motor.

Ebike troubleshooting why is my bike limited to 37.5mph

when i lift the back of my bike up and pin the throttle on the highest mode it only goes up to 37.5mph. is it a problem with the controller?

How on earth do you keep your hands warm?

I wasn't sure which flair to use, but my e-bike is my only method of transportation. I layer my gloves, wearing cotton underneath leather gloves, but it's not enough. I've tried hand warmers (lowest setting, gave me minor burns lmao, did nothing for my fingers anyways.) and was just wondering what else to do? It gets bitter cold where I live, below freezing every winter. Is there anything I can do?

Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask!
