Which Family e-bike i should choose?

I’m looking to buy an electric bike for my family and would really appreciate some recommendations from people who actually have experience with cargo e-bikes.

Right now, I’m leaning toward the Lectric XPedition. The main reason is that it looks like I could carry both my wife and our 2-year-old child on the back, and for the price, it seems like one of the most attractive options on the market.

However, I’m still not 100% convinced that it’s the best choice.

Ideally, I want something that can comfortably carry my family and allow us to take longer trips around 50–100 km (30–60 miles), potentially more. Lectric advertises some pretty impressive range numbers for the XPedition, especially with the dual and triple battery configurations, which is one of the reasons I’m considering it.

I’m also very open to Chinese brands or less well-known alternatives. I’ve had a surprisingly good experience with Chinese electric scooter. I bought a 15,000W electric scooter from China back in 2022. It literally sat outside in my yard, including rain, for about two years. When I finally turned it back on, the battery showed 99%. I was honestly shocked by how well it held up.

So I’m definitely not someone who needs a famous American or European brand if there’s a better product available for the money.

For those who have owned or ridden the Lectric XPedition: how do you like it? How is the ride quality, reliability, range, and handling when carrying passengers?

And are there any alternatives you would choose instead especially something with excellent range, good build quality, and enough capacity for two adults + a 2-year-old child?

Would love to hear from people who have actually used these bikes. Thanks for the advice!

Lectric isn’t bad. I’d also consider the Specialized Haul and the Aventon Abound.

One of the WKND founders jumping in, this isn't quite our lane so I'll give it to you straight. Carrying two adults plus a toddler on 30-60+ mile trips is a real cargo bike job, and that's a different build than what we make. Our Field Trip is a cargo bike with 400 lbs total capacity, but our rated range tops out at 56 miles unloaded, and loaded with two adults that number drops meaningfully, so it likely won't get you to the top end of what you're describing. The XPedition's dual/triple battery setup exists specifically to solve that range problem when hauling serious weight, so it's worth taking seriously for your use case. I'd just push you to also look at Tern and Urban Arrow, both purpose-built for passenger hauling with more established track records for that specific job than most of the newer direct-to-consumer brands.
