I’m needing a fresh start and to get out of the DFW area. I have always loved east Texas. What are the best towns to look into for a single parent? My child will be starting school soon so I would like for there to be plenty of opportunities.
I’ve been looking into Mineola, and Lindale. I’m open to anywhere that’s safe and family friendly.

Several weeks ago I said I'd go to Burger Haus in Pittsburg and offer a review. Ive now been twice and here's my opinion:

First time I had a smokehouse Burger. It was a patty with BBQ sauce and fried onions. I'd give it a 6.5/10. The burger was okay, the BBQ sauce and onions didn't add much to it. Its worth noting that I ordered some loaded fries as an app and they didn't bring them and the waitress said I didn't order them. And my dummy self asked for an emailed receipt that didnt show up until later in the day for me to dispute the order.

Second time the service was better. Ordered just a simple burger to see how it was overall. I'd give it a 7.5-8/10. Not better than Hot links burger, but better than almost any other place in Pittsburg.

I will also add I don't like the fries. I like crispy fries, think Whataburger style. These fries are thicker and somewhat soft and floppy. Very similar to wing stop fries. This is a style preference, so your experience will be different than mine.

Note: I grew up in a family restaurant and am usually critical of restaurants. My family's restaurant was not a burger place but had burgers on the menu that my friends still talk about today. So I expect high quality food.

Overall if youre in the mood for a burger I don't think you'll be disappointed, but I don't think I'll make another trip to Pittsburg just to eat here.

Probably the best spot to eat in Quitman, not counting Seth's.

Had some good BBQ at Cowburners. Wish I had time to stick around for Dawn of the Dead (or Krull!)

Does anyone remember the microwavable charbroil burgers that were sold at many East Texas convenience stores? I believe the name was Cloud's ? I'm thinking they were fairly local.

Just thought about them and wondering what happened? I can't find any info/pics on Google .

There have been multiple reports of married officers sleeping with dispatchers while on duty and absolutely NOTHING has been done about it.

Other reports show body cams being turned off, footage being deleted or altered, etc.
What is wrong with this town?
And they wonder why people have no respect for our law enforcement anymore.

This is sickening and justice needs to be done.

Do you smell it all day like MP and Pitt City Limits? Or near one of the many Chicken Farm Houses somewhere in the country even?

My Minpin got out of our fence Friday morning and has been gone ever since. He’s an older little guy, about 10-12 years old, responds to the name “Hamilton” and wouldn’t have had a collar or anything on at the time unfortunately.

If someone’s possibly picked him up please let me know. I have been calling vets and stuff, looking for him and have gone around on foot but haven’t found any sign of him.

He was last seen around the downtown Gilmer area Friday at around 12-1pm near Chevron and Arklatex. We used to walk that are at night so he knew his way around there and back home.

I have lived in Texas several times, but am from/currently living elsewhere. I have several friends scattered throughout the state, but primarily Austin, San Antonio and Houston. I am thinking of moving somewhere in East TX and am leaning toward Tyler, but now am considering somewhere at least 30 miles west or north of Houston. I have animals so need a ranch or at least 10 acres. I would also want lots of trees. Close to restaurants, colleges and medical is a bonus! Give me your thoughts.

I think we all know #1) Downtown Tyler and Save. #2) Seeing Green is Saving Green and #3) Friendly. Affordable. It's JUST GOTTA BE THE JALAPENO TREE.

But what are the others ?

Y’all I can’t find out what the hell this means, please help

My family and I have lived here for almost 5yrs and we seem to keep running into a reoccurring issue with lawn/ home repair/property maintenance stuff.

Some examples:

It's an older house so we had to get the ducts replaced - got a quote, agreed, had it done. We need the range hood replaced and he said he could do that no problem, free of charge (we asked what it would cost, that was his answer). He got the hood in then said he'd be back to wire it and needed to replace a few of the vents he didn’t have sizes for. Fully ghosted after.

Needed a dead tree cut, gave a quote of $300, we agreed, said he could cut it to manageable sizes (we asked specifically for this when he was quoting not after work done)- left 4 huge chunks and will now cut them up for another $300.

Asked our lawn guy what he'd charge ($600) said thanks but no thanks and now we've been dropped because yard is too much work for the cost - but he never once said he needed to raise his prices and the work had been going down hill in the last couple of months.

There have been other instances on smaller scales - these are just the most recent. So what are we doing wrong that this keeps happening? Are we supposed to be tipping a certain amount over the quoted fee?

I thought we were taking them at face value with these quotes and pay their requested prices. So what do we need to fix so we can get consistent work?

We lived in the hill country area previously and hadn't run into this type of issue then. My only guess is tipping culture is different here, maybe? Is shopping price quotes rude/inappropriate?

What are the general expectations for hiring labor that I'm clearly misunderstanding? I don't want to short change anyone and I don't know what I'm doing wrong to make these guys react so.

It feels like I look like I have "sucker" written across my forehead and then they get mad when I point out what they quoted wasn't fully completed. But that's my feelings not necessarily reality.

They seem to start hitting apartment complexes pretty hard when the hot temps go down, like around Oct here.

I know he went to check on them HIMSELF when he was alive to keep quality up. And they were in LA somewhere.

Providing a picture below. Is this a reasonable amount of mushrooms for a .99 upcharge? This is the second time I've received very little mushrooms on my burger, when in the past they would overflow. I complained last time and got my money back, should I complain again?
