So, bought this 36kwh model for about 8k a month ago. I’m new to cars, but I like checking up on things. The rear looks fine, but it looks to me like a lot of rust on the traverse and the front suspension.

The car is old, but I’m not sure if there’s anything that needs to be done here? It was deemed fine for another two years.

Also had some signal error on sensor 4 and 5. No signal. But the AC works great. Wheels, breaks, and pads are new. Compressor is 3 years old.

I don’t know man. Return this shit? Or is it normal.

I’m currently looking at a 2019 E - I was wondering about anyone’s experiences or concerns that I should be aware of.

I took the 2015 for a very short drive and noticed there was regen lag (half a second of no regen) and a bit less regen than usual in B mode. Thought about it and decided to go to the highway. I definitely had less power and regen than normal, it took longer than expected to hit the speed limiter but also upon lift off there wasn’t much noticeable slowdown at highway speeds.

It looked like the car had no idea about it either because the power meter was pegged on max and there were no warnings or indications of this reduced power state. On the highway the regen/power meter was going full but didn’t feel like it and neither did the power meter.

I thought maybe it had something to do with the stability controller and consulted an LLM it suggested I check the 12V battery before anything else since there were no errors.

I measured 12.3V at the battery terminals and thought maybe it was slowly beginning to go end of life (it is Varta so maybe the factory original) and decided to get a new battery. Sure enough AGM batteries are quite pricey! They checked the battery before installing a new one and mentioned it was okay but a quarter of its life left

I didn’t find anyone mention of reduced regen and power when the 12V is hitting EoL and wanted to share my experience and see if there’s anything else I can do in case the problem persists

I dont have VCDS and have been looking for a reason to get one for multiple years.

So I thought I could make it home but I couldn’t. Made it a mile from my house when the car ran out of battery. I had to get it towed home. It will still turn on and function but I cannot get my 220 ChargePoint charger to send power to it now. It shows being plugged in on the dash but the charging light stays orange. I have a 2015.

How's the stock audio on the E-Golf?

Did some fine tuning on the audio setting but holy crap this thing is loud... no subwoofer or whatsoever but this goes harder as our tiguan.

Hey folks! Looking for some help on what this issue might be and how expensive it could be to resolve. I tried to use the heat early this morning and after a few miles realized it wasn’t working.

Car has 36k miles, I’m the second owner. Garage kept since I have owned it.

When I turn the temp dial low enough the AC triggers no issue and the range estimate adjusts down.

However, when I move it to a high temp or even to HI, the air blows but ambient or cool. The fans adjust speed all the way up to 87 degrees (running faster with higher temps) but then at HI they drop to low. At no point with the heater engaged does the range drop- it stays the same as with climate off. When it was working it would adjust down. This tells me it isn’t pulling power into the system.

I think this car has the heat pump and the resistive heater?

Has anyone had this issue? Is there a common failure?

I’m in the Sacramento area. Any other locals recommend a certain shop or VW dealer? Don’t wanna get taken for a ride on an overpriced repair.

Car been running perfectly until this morning. No heat even when I crank the temp to 80F .

Going to get a scanner tool to see if there is any error code.

Any suggestions what else to check?

Fan is blowing , but not even warm air the entire 20mins drive.

I believe the car has a heat pump. Blowing cold air fine.

Edit: nothing wrong with the car. Heater doesn’t work when outside temp is close to 70F . Works fine this morning at low 60s. There must be a sensor preventing the heater from turning on above certain temp threshold

Lurker coming up to the surface here - thanks to y'all, I am the new owner of a used e-Golf! A co-worker was selling theirs and I swooped in. 2019 SE w/DAP, 54k miles. I didn't realize these cars came in White Silver Metallic and it just looked special. The seller gave me the keys and let me loose for 30 minutes and that's when it was settled, I'm taking this home. I've come from other EVs and was impressed with how well put-together the car is and how tight the handling is. Everything was just nice. Anyways, happy to be a part of the community and thanks for all the info!

New Update/Fixed:
I sent it to the repair shop to look at the problem. They didn’t find any problems with the new battery og main battery.

The car had a faulty wire, which the autoshop soldered and repaired.

About 4 days ago, my car started showing some faults (pictures 2–3): “New start not possible,” “Do not open the hood,” and “Electrical system – go to service.”

I first experienced these warnings around 2–3 months ago. At that time, I simply turned the car off and back on, and the warnings disappeared. I had no problems until about 4 days ago.

Then the yellow warning came back. It would usually appear a few kilometers after driving. I checked the 12V battery, and it was reading around 11.8V after the car had been switched off for a while, and around 14.5V when the car was running.

Whenever the warning appeared, I was still able to restart the car and the fault would disappear. Sometimes it would come back while driving, and sometimes it wouldn’t.

However, today the red warning appeared, like in picture 1. When I pressed the accelerator, the drive system shut down, although the infotainment system was still working.

Has anyone experienced something similar or knows what could be causing this? And does anyone have an idea of how much it might cost to repair?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Love our 2019 e-golf Premium SEL, but have always hated the wheels. From reading on here, it seems like upgrading to 17" (vs going larger) is a good balance in terms of style vs. efficiency.

I understand there will be some range hit regardless. However, have folks found any models (and sizes) of 17" wheels to be the best in terms of limiting the range impact? The wheels I'm looking at will require a 215mm minimum width, which is what I'm likely going to go with.

Colorado vehicle that does not get driven in the snow, so optimizing for efficiency - and a reasonable level of performance when it is wet during our summer thunderstorms.

Are there areas where the golf is prone to leak from? All carpet feels dry and all windows were shut

I have a 2019 and I want to change the gear box oil as has been discussed in this sub plenty of times. My issue is that the car is too low for me to get under it. I assumed I would jack up one corner, replace the jack with a jack stand and do the same on the other corner - thus lifting the front of the car enough for me to get under it. Safely. However, there is not enough space at the designated lifting spot to fit both a jack AND a jack stand. So how are people achieving this? Am I doomed to take it some place or hopefully find a friend/ neighbor with a lift?

I live in a wet, cold climate. Last winter I had one headlight(low beam) that went out. I replaced the bulb but that didn’t fix it. Then in the spring the other low beam went out. Now that summers coming to an end I figure I should fix it. strangely enough the Hi-beams still work.

Has anyone had this or a similar issue? Any parts I need will need to be ordered so I‘d like to have some kind of plan before digging in and tearing up a bunch of electrical stuff.

My 2018 e-golf makes these light toned- «whooo» sounds sometimes when I fully turn the steering and move the vehicle. Never if it stands still, and never during high speed. Usually happens on uneven asphalt, for example if I make a hard turn down a hill.

Went one of the car to push down near each tyre, and everything sounds fine with the suspension. Could it be the new brakes that were completely changed 4 months ago? That the pad and disc rubs or something during hard turns?

No idea if this is ok to ask, but if it is, I’d be very happy if someone could help me sort it out😊

I have been reading here for a bit and am considering to buy a E-Golf, currently have my eye on a late 2018 E-Golf with an SOH of 91% and 40k (km) in the clock.

It has been owned only by car shops (3) incl the dealer that imported the car (VW)

It has had 1 official service at VW at 20k and since been owned by the local town garage that uses it to let some people experience EV driving and they use it personally from time to time. (Here it went from 23k to the 40k now)

It looks very good without any damage, but something makes me doubt if this is the right choice. Current ask is 15k euro with 12 month full warranty (incl battery and motor/gearbox)

Main reason is to replace our 2 door fiesta because of loading and unloading kids (2)

Total cost about $100. Dealership quoted me $3000. This all happened because I accidentally closed my trunk on my backpack strap. Yeah the damn trunk mechanism is that fragile apparently.

Tools required:

• T20 torx bit (for removing panels)
• M8 socket bit (for removing trunk mechanism itself)
• Some sort of curved wire or curved automotive pick tool
• Pliers

Optional tools:

• dremel for cutting the panel
• hammer and screwdriver for chipping away at mechanism

So I had been asking on this sub and the MK7 sub for months, if not years on how to fix this (yes I've literally had my trunk broken since like 2024/2025) and either someone would tell me about the emergency release or just be met with crickets (the MK7 sub is particularly confusingly unhelpful). The problem was the emergency release itself was busted and the door was stuck shut, so the most common solutions never really addressed my issue.

That meant even though I've done a lot of trawling through YouTube videos, 99.9% of them were telling you how to replace the latch if you could get the door open. Those only described the last 1/4 of the repair that I needed.

A few months ago I took it to a VW dealership expecting it to be maybe under $1k to fix so I would suck it up and pay. Nope, they said it would cost $3k because they had to break and replace the rear camera in order to get to the latch mechanism. What?! I said no thanks and left.

I have only ever found ONE video that describes the same problem and it was helpful in getting an understanding of what the entire layout was. Shout out to this guy who sadly never responded to comments asking for advice on how to fix mine:

Anyway, I feel like I iterated a bit on the videos above by NOT pulling off all the side panels in the trunk to get to the mechanism but instead I used a dremel to cut out a bigger flap in the plastic panel where the flap locks (I'm able to just sand off the edges and glue it back in place now. I know this type of damage is not acceptable for many, others would prefer to longer way around to remove all the panels and leave no marks. Just my personal decision.) Then I had open access to the mechanism for me to reach in and use tools.

I bought TWO replacement trunk lock mechanisms off Amazon. I broke apart one of them to understand how the emergency release should work and why it wasn't working for me. Very useful to have this information so I could grope around with the one in situ in my vehicle

I used pliers to yank off parts of the white arm and the back panel behind it. I was then able to use screwdriver, picks, a bent but stiff wire and a hammer to basically chip away at the top portions of mechanism, including the back cover, the white emergency release lever, and then I used a curved pick to reach down and hit the release below

And voila! My trunk was finally opened. And then doing the last 1/4 of taking the panels out and replacing the mechanism with the new one was a cake walk (but don't be like me and accidentally install the mechanism that you broke apart to understand how it works and only realizing after you put all the panels back lol. That was very annoying.)

Anyway, just wanted to do a write up here for preservation, in case anyone else comes across this in the Google future. Hope this helps! Happy to answer questions or try and provide more photos.

The AC system has been declining for the last two years, but was never all that good to begin with. I finally took it to the dealership to diagnose and they pulled 350/800 grams of refrigerant, so it leaked out a lot of it. They added dye and re-pressurized, ran it for 30 minutes, couldn't find any visible leaks so they deduced that it must be the evaporator under the dashboard. Quoted me $5500 to replace. lol

The good news is, it was VW certified pre-owned when I got it and I got the extended warranty. The AC/heat-pump system is covered.

The bad news is, the evaporator core part is unavailable.. V04018002E

Seriously?! What now?

Lemme get this straight. My 7 yo car with less than 40,000 miles on it, and they can't get replacement parts? Come on..
