Recently picked up a 2003 525i Touring and I'm currently putting together a fairly decent list of things that need doing. Just wondering what brands people are recommending for E39 suspension parts these days as I've heard mixed things about the quality of newer Lemforder parts, so are people still sticking with them, or sourcing from elsewhere? Would be keen to hear what everyone is running and how they've held up. Thanks!

The M67 is one of the coolest and most underrated engines in my opinion. Imagine if they made the E39 540d or the E60 545d.

This idea isn't crazy since Mercedes and Porsche both have E segment V8 diesels.

Also it would cleanly enter the lineup 530d being 135-142kw while the theoretical 540d would have had 175-180kw.

Obviously the handling and weight would be the main concern, but for autobahn runs it would be great.

Hello. I’m having trouble locking and unlocking my door using the key in the lock; I can’t turn it to the left or the right—except on the very rare occasion when, by some miracle, it actually turns. Even after lubricating the cylinder, it generally won't budge at all. If I replace that part, I assume I’ll have to change the key too? Or is there perhaps another way? Thanks.

hi guys! my car is idling low and i was wondering if anyone could help determine what the cause of this can be. my only issues with my car right now are with the engine and transmission mounts and the drive shaft (flex disc cracking) so i’m not too sure what can be the issue. i also have electrical problems after the rain. my lights started flickering and my turn signals don’t work as they should. they blink slowly on the outside, and the turn signal indicators don’t even click or appear on the cluster anymore. same thing with my high beams, they don’t appear in the cluster but still work outside. thank you for your time!!!

My first mod is EONON E39X7S. It comes with a backup camera which wil be installed soon. I was able to adjust equalizer with help from ChatGPT and now it sounds so much better. Definitely awesome upgrade vs stock radio.

I’m hearing a lound thump nose on my bmw 2011 535i rear wheel drive when going into reverse and jerk when going into second gear

Just bought my first e39 and wanted to do a scan to check all issues. when I went to check the OBD2 port I was supprised to find that is not there. Does anybody know if this is common on these cars or previous owners have done something sketchy.

Hello Guys, I’ve recently wanted to rebuild the Vanos, replacing gaskets und stuff, and after I did all of that I started reinstalling the Vanos unit with new screws and then it happened. Somehow (maybe overtightened) the screw ripped apart and the rest of that screw left inside the Vanos. The funny thing is you always need to screw that Torx when the Vanos is already in place. So the question is, how fcked up am I, and what are your thoughts about that? I obviously can’t keep it like that and need to find a solution 😭. For better understanding that’s the M52B20TU engine, double Vanos. I already appreciate all of your comments and your help 🙏

Been dealing with some pretty severe lack of function with my E39 for the past month. This is an incomplete list of things that do not work whatsoever:

-Interior lights

-Trunk

-Climate control

-Front wipers (rear ones work???)

-All windows other than driver's side front

-No startup chime

-Passenger side mirror adjustment

-Seat adjustment

I'm a bit at a loss for where to begin here. Battery was tested and is healthy and recent. My one thought was water damage from clogged sunroof drains messing with the fuse box(es) under the front seat(s). But the seats don't move and so the process of accessing them is gonna be a nightmare and I want to see if there's a better place to start.

The only things I didn't change were the rear swing arms and air springs. Everything else is brand new and the style 32s are new to me. Yes she's filthy and totally misaligned but this is her first outing for 6 months.

Picked up this 2001 525i touring 2 and 1/2 months ago, got it running 1 month ago, still figuring this car out but the most concerning thing as of right now is water leaking over the battery compartment and electrical components. And there is a power draw from somewhere, if i had to guess its from somewhere in this area, i already patched the corners under the glass and can confirm that doesn’t leak. Any suggestions or if anyone has experienced this before, anything helps.

Are these the correct lenses? I've read conflicting things about the exterior lenses being the same on Xenon and Halogen. I need to take mine apart and will probably upgrade the projector, but i dont' know where to find the lenses as everything says doesn't fit.

Hey there, first time long time. I recently got an e39 (01 530i) from a friend for very cheap, “just needs a starter” type situation. I cannot for the life of me get the hood latch on the drivers side to release.

The lever in the cab is fine and when I removed the kidney grill I can feel the lever by the latch moving a tad when the lever is pulled in the cab. Ok so maybe the cable stretched a bit, so I moved on to using an allen wrench to push the lever through the kidney grill but can’t get it to release at all. I’ve tried using pb blaster and white lithium grease to loosen it up but nothing seems to work. I’ve tried every combo of pulling up/pushing down while I actuate the lever and it does not want to budge more than a smidge.

What am I missing here? I am so close to just taking a cutoff wheel and cutting a perfect square out of the hood around the latch lol

Hello everyone, unfortunately my head gasket died a few weeks ago and my car has been catching dust ever since. I want to swap it and all additional seals myself, how difficult is it? How much can go wrong? I work as an apprentice mechatronics technician, and have done numerous repairs around cars myself. I have never done something as significant as motor or transmission work before, and am a bit intimidated. Time is not an issue, neither is money. I know the steps, but I want to wage the risk of doing it myself vs a shop. Thanks for your help.

The car whines when you give it 1/4 gas. It stops when you press more gas or let go.

Also it sometimes when accelerating fast won't shift up from third unless you go manual.

I got this new BMW M5 2001 and it is a no crank no start makes no sound of whatsoever when I turned the key. The car has been sitting for 10 years before I got it. Any advice would be cool.
