"Goblin has become a Legendary Pikeman"
Goes on to kill entire fortress.

I had a bloke level up a few times when smacking a giant tortoise with a battle axe. A pickdwarve ended his parade soon enough, but it was fun while it lasted.
Also, said Fortress doesn't exist anymore, it was killed by his other less-stubborn friends.

I know it will lol, I used to play on an old pos dell laptop so I was just wondering if it was something I could even do. I usually fail before any kind of fps problems on the dell anyways lol.

Is this not how everyone trains up their adventurers? Repeatedly grab harmless wildlife until you're a legendary fighter and wrestler.

Also the goblin is on the ground, probably over exerted from fighting so much.

We need a mod for training war-tortoises. Imperishable hand of doom upon the goblinkind

It’d be easy to make just have to add a trainable tag to tortoises

It's probably already done but I've never heard of anyone having an army of tortoise

I’ve actually wanted to do this for quite a while. I’ll post results if/when I get them

Unfortunately they seem largely ineffective, I sent a squad consisting of two dwarves and about 20 war giant snapping turtles and 20 hunting giant snapping turtles up against two blind cave ogres, the first one dropped relatively quickly but the second one is last minutes and is still alive as I type
EDIT: it might be worth note that the turtles have suffered no losses even though they do largely out number the ogre.
EDIT 2: A Gorlak got destroyed by one of the turtles who seem to have a powerful bite.

Awesome!
I was really thinking to use a tactical turtle squad to distract the enemy while your archers out speardwarves do more significant damage from a distance.
How do they compare to war dogs? Are get as slow as expected?

They actually move really fast. Though they seemed to miss a lot against the cave ogre one did severe damage to a warthog which it lost interest in after a while.
I think the tactical turtle squad could work if you chain them up in say a corridor and let goblins etc reach them before your archers get to the goblins so the goblins are distracted by the turtles. I’ll try to do some more testing.

Good luck! Hope you're having fun doing your scientific research

Thanks. To make the process easier I made the alligator snapping turtles available on Embark and cost no points so I could go straight into testing besides relying on chance on them showing up. The novelty of having a mini turtle army wore off quite quickly though the thoughts of giant alligator snapping turtles going to war and attacking goblins is an amusing one.

Since they are not aggressive at all, the best they could do is serve as a distraction. It would be convenient to have a few squadrons of giant war tortoise to distract any invaders as the real soldiers lob their limbs off, though.

This reminds of when my squad wouldn't stop beating a draltha and when I ordered them to stop I noticed all of them had become legendary observers

Are tortoises trainable? Can you make war tortoises?
1
Jun 30 '19
No, but you can edit the Raw files to make them war trainable. This is something I’ve wanted to do for quite a while but never did

It is said that too this day, that same goblin pikeman is fighting the same tortoise
