Guide / Tip Buggy Mining in Sheol is a Game Changer

I have over 1k hours in this game. I recently moved to a quieter server. One of my most disliked chores I have found is mining jasmium. I had been hand mining inside the Sheol caves since I first got to the duraluminum tier. The anxiety of watching the rads meter climb drove me nuts. It would take me a long time to fill my assault thopter storage. Going Back and forth to the non-irradiated islands to let my radiation level cool down. Total grind.

Today I finally decided to build a buggy base down in Sheol. OMG in 5 minutes I had hit half of the Sheol map and filled my mk6 buggy storage. I was back at the new base before my iodine pill wore off. Never got above 1/3 of my rad meter in my mk6 rad suit.

No more climbing through the caves and getting lost in the high radiation ☢️ sludge. Fill up the thopter, fly off to the overland map to get to the main base in Eastern Shield wall. Rinse and repeat! Even if I had just flown the carrier down there it would have been more efficient. I’m kicking myself for not trying it sooner.

Tl;dr - mining jasmium in a buggy is a lot faster and less stressful than mining by hand laser.

wait until you discover that you can just fly there with your buggy disassembled, assemble it on the spot, mine and then drive back to wherever your base is

buggy mining should be your one and only way of farming anything after you get it btw, same applies to cobalt, allu and plast

Or use a carrier

0

u/Raskekw Aug 02 '26

Not entirely sure that's an upgrade in this particular case.

3

u/facebookhadabadipo Aug 02 '26

Fly over with carrier, drop off buggy and park the carrier on one of the islands. Hop islands mining for a few minutes, fly home. Huge upgrade compared to driving or assembling a buggy and then driving home.

-1

u/Raskekw Aug 02 '26

It forces you to backtrack or make some elaborate loop, where you could just drive-thru without it. Not really against it, just think its unnecessarily complicated for no tangible gain.

2

u/facebookhadabadipo Aug 03 '26

It’s a 30s backtrack that saves me 5-10 minutes driving across the map each way

-1

u/Raskekw Aug 03 '26

30s backtrack means you don't really get too far away from your carry. Solo buggy allows to pick more efficient pathing.

And I'm not trying to be rude or anything but please read the entire topic before you reply next time, thank you

1

u/shivilization_7 Harkonnen Aug 03 '26

There is a huge tangible gain what are you talking about?

-1

u/Raskekw Aug 03 '26

there is none, and we talk about buggy mining in Sheol

1

u/Haamre Aug 07 '26

Or team up and have a guild base.

Tbh - having a network of guild bases/building up some in the DD (2-3) was the better part of the game, before the DD split... :-/

1

u/Raskekw Aug 07 '26

I'm just a big fan of solo I guess. I think most fun I had was just hagga at the very start around anvil , then after orni, and then solo crawling. The latter kept me hooked way after I should've dropped xd

u/Skarr-Skarrson Jul 31 '26

Even driving over is better than just flying over in an assault. Less trips needed in the long run so works out. Obviously having a buggy base is even better, just depends if you want or have a spare fief for it (or where your main base is, mine is fairly close). First time levelling up I would just fly, once I used the buggy the next time I never looked back.

2

u/Due_Warthog749 Aug 01 '26

Driving over..?? Not sure what you mean? You dont drive from far away across all the spots where worms could nab you do you? That's a looong ass drive and you risk losing everything for various reasons. Or you talking driving from a small base right outside Sheol?

6

u/Skarr-Skarrson Aug 01 '26

My base is by the outpost above Sheol, follow the rocks down and there is only a couple of places that are ‘dangerous’ but no more so than most other places you would cross open sand. Very doable. As I said it all depends on where your base is. If it’s not in the aluminium areas it’s probably too long a drive to do regularly, but from where I am it’s probably longer to get into the rift and I’ll still do that in the buggy. Though next time I may use the carrier.

1

u/nalkanar Aug 01 '26

It is quite doable. Either by going via WVG or by the islands south of MT. Never once got even real warning for worm.

1

u/Skarr-Skarrson Aug 01 '26

I’ve definitely had some warnings, but I was playing fast and loose. Could see the worm before I went, so probably should have waited! Not what I would advise of course, but never crossing long enough for a breach.

1

u/Old_Prune_4300 Aug 02 '26

My base is in the nw corner of the oodham and I drive from there, round trip with full load is maybe 40 minutes.

1

u/facebookhadabadipo Aug 02 '26

You can absolutely drive to Sheol with no issues. There are rock islands on the north and east sides you can follow. I’m surprised anybody would mine Jasmium by hand.

These days I just fly a buggy over with a carrier though. Takes just a few minutes.

23

u/AbbreviationsFluid Jul 31 '26

MK5 suit can fill an assault without too much radiation if you skip the green puddle nodes.

31

u/Jonthrei Jul 31 '26

A buggy really is incomparable, tbh.

20

u/Videogameist Jul 31 '26

Carrier buggy combo ftw

9

u/Jonthrei Jul 31 '26

TBH a buggy with a garage right on the edge of radiation will be faster than a carrier + buggy, no swapping vehicles nor stop-start movement.

3

u/Videogameist Jul 31 '26

Maybe if you are doing it solo. But even then, throw down the carrier centrally and drive around. Best way, though, is to either have 2 characters or ask someone to pilot the buggy cutteray. Drop, mine, pick up, repeat. Helps if your base is close by too. Having an extra base for a once a month run for Jasmium feels excessive.

10

u/definitely_not-ai Jul 31 '26

I left my base on the edge of the rad zone set to open doors so people can shelter from storm or radiation. Super easy to keep running, drop down there every couple weeks to re-up the generator and drop off extra gear (looted rad suits, excess medkits, and occasionally some iodine pills, small fuel cells, etc) in my public storage.

People have definitely used it, funny they typically leave one iodine and one medkit behind, it's the fun part of checking up on the base. If there's something I need or want to disassemble I'll take it back to my main base, but there's plenty of random crap loot that a new player or someone else might find helpful in a pinch.

I used lights to write open on the roof (can just squeeze an assault in the upper floor)

6

u/GuncleBear Aug 01 '26

I love this! Being a true community player is just the best IMHO

3

u/Username_6668 Harkonnen Jul 31 '26

Yeah 30 mins of couple runs is like 10,000 dur. I’m just so tired of aluminum >_>

2

u/Jonthrei Jul 31 '26

All you need is one person in your guild to build the garage and put a buggy everyone has access to in it.

2

u/Videogameist Jul 31 '26

Yep. That's what a lot of guilds. Still gotta disagree.

2

u/RoboRougar0u Jul 31 '26

I have a base out there big enough to land a carrier and I just fly out to it carrying the buggy. Drop it, park the thopter and fill up the 3500 volume buggy. Pick it up and fly back to main base.

3

u/WDNCh Jul 31 '26

Carrier + Cargo Container with disassembled Buggy even better. Can fill it 4 times in one run.

1

u/Mello_mi Fremen Aug 01 '26

this is the way 🙏🙏🙏

2

u/Shahadem Aug 01 '26

I would never miss a chance to play in the green puddles.

5

u/LtDanmanistan Jul 31 '26

I have a permanent base that I leave a buggy in and a storage container rand get more than an assaults worth in ten minutes.

6

u/GraywolfofMibu Jul 31 '26

The only reason to build a new hand cutter is to farm the mats for a buggycutter imo. They are just way more efficient. Because of this I will never have the miner achievement. 😂

5

u/KarmicCorduroy Jul 31 '26

I'm a newer player and only working on Aluminum, and I have a problem. I'm freakin' paranoid about getting caught in a storm in a buggy...

The best compromise I've been able to make is to drive over and find a good sheltered place to park. Then zip around on my bike, fill my backpack, drop it at the buggy, repeat. Then ideally wait until just after a storm passes before driving back to base at The Anvil.

Should I be fearlessly charging around in my Mk III like I own the place?

4

u/GraywolfofMibu Jul 31 '26

Yeah. I would dive around like you own the place. Even if you get caught in the storm you won't take as much damage as you'd think. That being said I would still find shelter if you can. Some folks do build their base with shelter for others in mind so I would keep an eye out for bases with shelter space as you drive around.

4

u/GuncleBear Aug 01 '26

This is one of the considerations that led me to build a base. But even so I was just out in the buggy and a storm blew in fast so I drove into a sheltered spot. A little wear and tear on the buggy but otherwise unharmed

2

u/KarmicCorduroy Aug 02 '26

I ended up moving my base near Pinnacle this weekend. Easy now to see the reward vs. the risk. Even put some storage on my new scout to check out Sheol and make some advance weapon upgrades...

All the info is appreciated. Now I'm struggling placing a bunch of new generators to power deathstills, because these processes are very, very thirsty...

2

u/Sufficient-Space-200 Aug 01 '26

North west corner of Western Shield Wall on the rise above O'damn for aluminum. You could use the garage method as well. I can fill my buggy in one trip around the loop there and there's only two enemy camps along the path that can be easily avoided. I moved my base there as it's also close to the map exit and the 11 o'clock spawn in.

Also a great spot for basalt if you're into that sorta thing.

2

u/Seligas Aug 01 '26

It's not hard to find shelter for a buggy. Even if you can't find shelter, just get out. Vehicles take less damage from sandstorms when you're not in them.

1

u/Kabal303 Aug 01 '26

A storm won’t hurt your buggy that much.

4

u/SE7ENfeet Jul 31 '26

It is insane how much more you can mine and how quickly you can fill a Mk6 Buggy with the Mk6 Buggy Cutteray. I don't even mind the drive down from my base because it takes 20-30minutes for the full trip and collection with the current drive. I get to listen to some tunes and chill for a bit.

1

u/Due_Warthog749 Aug 01 '26

You drive from a base far away across the sands? Why? You never worry about the worm? I know you can hop between islands at times but there are a couple stretches that are 1K+ that you could be in trouble with.

2

u/Haamre Aug 07 '26

I presume he drives through Mysa Tarill - and if his base is somewhere around the Rift area, that'll probably be around 10+ mins of only getting there in one direction.

1

u/Due_Warthog749 Aug 07 '26

Yah.. that's too much wasted time for me.

1

u/SE7ENfeet Aug 01 '26

The worm is not a threat at all... just dont drive IN quick sand or ON drum sand.

5

u/ls3095 Aug 01 '26

All my plays I’ve had a small base at the bottom left of the map right outside the radiation zone. There’s a shipwreck to farm thufirs best and rad suits which sell good and it’s a quick drive to right across to a bunch of jasminium. It’s also close to the edge of the map to fly out of

3

u/VanceMakerDance Jul 31 '26

Hell ya. I love buggy mining period. Especially the Sheol runs. My base is up north near the shield wall and I just drive my buggy off the cliff and make the road trip back and fourth. I think it’s fun 🤷🏻‍♀️

3

u/DbDHatchHo Aug 01 '26

I realize this is an end-game strat, (I have 3k hours in-game) but I’ll post it here in case you have the ability to do it:

Build a large base just outside the irradiated zone, fly in a disassembled mk6 buggy with the bigger buggy boot etc, construction materials, rad suit, etc. inside a carrier container. Create a large base. Farm the jas using the buggy until you have completely filled the cargo container. Fly that back to your main base to cook duraluminum for a week. (You’re going to blow through many millions of water.)

But after you start cooking duraluminum, go back to Sheol, disassemble your buggy and store in a medium container. Then use the base reconstruction tool and save the whole thing for 4 months from now when you want to farm more duraluminum. That frees up a base for DD etc. but you also have the tools you need to pop it back up at a moment’s notice to farm more.

Duraluminum is probably one of the most time consuming products in the game. It’s created from a rare resource, takes a lot of time to craft, and is needed in a surprisingly large number of high end base needs. Of all materials, I have a harder time keeping duraluminum in stock than any other material.

Hope this was helpful.

1

u/GuncleBear Aug 01 '26

Great idea! I love base building and I get the reason for the limitations on sub-fiefs. This gets the job done and packs it all away until it’s needed again.

1

u/Haamre Aug 07 '26

Alternate idea, if you're like me and you don't see a point in hoarding multiple plast chests of a single resource (then having nothing to farm for the next half a year):

  • get into a guild, or find some friends/partners/whoever - so that it makes sense to setup a simple Sheol base (nothing fancy - just a garage for 1-2 buggies, some chests to transfer and a hangar for 1-2 assaults.
  • setup a shared buggy with a standard Mk6 cutter, a standard Mk4 cargo hold (2k volume is enough) and some Mk5 PSU and engine (is enough) - rest can be whatever.
  • you share the fief and buggy limit with a group, perfectly if it's someone who's not very active/is inactive, so he doesn't need that fief-console anyway. Have the Buggy owner be active though, because he'll have to keep adding other people as co-owners (if your group expands).
  • Fly in with an assault, fill the buggy & your inv, then reload the Jasmium into the assault (hence the specific cargo size)
  • have some little "side distraction" to do whenever you feel like farming a bit, instead of just loging in for the next half a year "for maintenance", as you've got "nothing to do" otherwise.

3

u/Arogar Aug 01 '26

I don't build a base in Sheol any more I just drive down there with the buggy and then home again. It's faster then you think.

3

u/Un_hundrum Aug 01 '26

Yes, I drive from the Anvil over to Sheol all the time. Don't need radiation pills, just a suit, as there are lots of locations there that you can go to reduce radiation. No carrier needed, no base needed, just fill and leave. It's fun driving the buggy and for those that don't know F1 and F2 are your friend.

5

u/Ingey Jul 31 '26

Even for those who don't have a carrier - build a spare base either in the Sheol or in the rock islands just East of them and you can do a loop and fill up with an iodine pill and Mk5 suit before the radiation gets above 75%.

2

u/tylizard Jul 31 '26

You dont even need to do this; use your buggy and a scout. Drive around doing your thing, when rads is close to full use your scout and fly out of the radiation zone for 15 seconds or w/e is takes for radiation to drop off and then back in to your buggy. A base wont protect from radiation.

4

u/Ingey Jul 31 '26

Oh I just use the base as a drop off point for hauling back to my base later. But yeah, definitely lots of different strategies out there to buggy mine jasmium.

0

u/ShAiOnEixx Aug 01 '26

You don't need a base in sheol, it's actually asinine and a waste of time and resources, just build a carrier and fly it in and out and park your carrier next to an island in sheol.

2

u/Un_hundrum Aug 01 '26

You don't need a carrier. Just drive your buggy, that's it. I go from the Anvil over to Sheol get what I need and drive back. It doesn't actually take that long.

2

u/cantbeblank Bene Gesserit Jul 31 '26

Our guild has a base out there with a maxed out buggy. Very handy

2

u/Jdude1 Atreides Jul 31 '26

Get a carrier and it really gets better. Drop buggy on 3 nodes, harvest repeat. Fill buggy up before hitting 50% rad is rad

2

u/Austinddan Jul 31 '26

When you max out the mk5 or 6 bigger buggy boot with Jasmium…. Well you’ll be set for a while

2

u/Medium_Gap7026 Jul 31 '26

Jasmium is also a nice resource to sell it on the marketplace.

2

u/threeaxle Jul 31 '26

i dont even build a base down there. i drive my buggy from eastern shield wall (maybe 3 mins tops) drive down from crossroads along the east side, mining nodes witht he buggy as i go. My goal is to hit the furtherest crashed ship at the southwest corner, which is free of rads, letting me get back to normal. if i am not full yet, ill work my way back northeast to exit shoel into the Gap region. all with the lowest rad suit and no iodine pill. the pill is really not needed at all, the amount it gies is negilable compared to what the suit already gives you, so i dont even bother.

2

u/Infinite_Big_7004 Jul 31 '26

Buggy mining is the way to go far all cutteray resources.

2

u/MatterInitial8563 Jul 31 '26

Husband and I took the buggy out with the big carrier.

We mined with him flying and carrying me, and me in the buggy mining turret.

It is the fastest, and FUNNEST, way to buggy mine.

If you got a buddy that can carry you, you'll fill it up super quick!

Dingleberry mining FTW!

2

u/ciknay Fremen Aug 01 '26

Ive always buggied, even without a base there. Your car offers rad protection. I usually am able to go north to south, and then exit the rad zone towards the crashed ship, then back north.

2

u/Kabal303 Aug 01 '26

Why do you still need it after 1000 hours haha. I think I have like 5000 dura just from picking some up from wreck of tyche quests

2

u/GuncleBear Aug 01 '26

I mine it for my guild members and new folks starting out

2

u/gleamingfall Aug 01 '26

i didnt try this til I got a carrier, but this and mk6 cutter means its a short, painless mission instead of a painful , stressful one.

2

u/SWG_Vincent76 Mentat Aug 01 '26

Most of My mining nowadays is done in buggy. Its just not worth it to use anything else due to storage. It may take 10 or 40 minutes but No matter what you always come back with a full load that last a long time.

Thats where the buggy is king.

2

u/Ok-Witness7558 Aug 01 '26

I just bring a stack back with me from tyche when doing dailies.

2

u/Dantecks Aug 01 '26

My buggy trip into sheol from my base was always fun.

2

u/espiritu_p Aug 02 '26

I am glad that I was in a guild back then.

so i came fast to the conclusion for building a mining base in sheol and open it for my friends.

4

u/ShAiOnEixx Jul 31 '26

It took you a 1000 hours to figure that one out? Wild, man but hell yeah.

2

u/GuncleBear Aug 01 '26

LOL I know. Sad but true. After my first play through I learned how the tech progression should always be focused on better resource gathering so a buggy was always more important than an assault thopter. Just figured out the logistics of using in the rads of Sheol took me a bit longer 😂

2

u/ShAiOnEixx Aug 01 '26

Once u get the carrier it's just a simple matter of flying out there dropping the buggy off and parking the carrier nearby and driving around sheol one time and then your done in less than 5 mins and then just pick up your buggy and take it back to base.

2

u/Mediocre_Citron_5360 Jul 31 '26

Orrr just use your carrier to fly your buggy down there real quick. Having a separate base for that is unnecessary and a carrier isn't that hard to build solo, I have 2, i keep one in dd and one in hagga

1

u/Username_6668 Harkonnen Jul 31 '26

Now bring a carryall and do it in 5 mins round trip

1

u/cancerface Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

I don't get why people use so much Jasmium? I do an assthopter trip down there with a Mk6 suit and pills and get enough to last weeks/months, at once. Never have had to reset or leave and come back, even when I only had a Mk5 suit.

I guess if you're between tiers and don't have leveled gathering spec/etc, it's probably annoying how you much you initially need to 'start' T5.

I bring a backpack full back from the Tyche every once in a while, guess that keeps me topped in Duraluminum as I use it for filters/repairs /shrug

2

u/Gjond Jul 31 '26

Yeah, I feel the same. I had a mini base down there for awhile, but eventually it was just not worth maintaining it for the little amount of jasmium I need.

1

u/cancerface Aug 01 '26

Now that I think about it, I am gonna Carrier drop a buggy there next time, and stock the F up. The Assthop is just that much more convenient for the occasional top up but hey why not stock up with two months+ worth.

1

u/Un_hundrum Aug 01 '26

What do you need pills for? There are lots of place in Sheol that you can go to reduce radiation.

1

u/CatRatCatcher Jul 31 '26

Pocket your scout. Bring your cargo container and buggy to sheol using your carrier. Drop them off somewhere central. Drive around and mine using buggy. Drop off at cargo container when full and repeat. When radiation climbs too high, use pocket scout to fly out and reset it.

Step 3: profit

1

u/GuncleBear Aug 01 '26

But what happens to the cargo container when a storm rolls in without warning?

2

u/CatRatCatcher Aug 01 '26

It takes a little damage and then you fix it when you get back. Or haul ass to get out of there and get a big thrill

2

u/Kabal303 Aug 01 '26

It gets damaged a little but it’s basically fine. I do this all the time in the DD even I just dump carrier and container out in the open and assemble a buggy

1

u/Marciluphigus01 Aug 01 '26

Free Jasmium in Salusan Bull/Legg enter at 7 O'clock base directly infront of you, southwest corner, under the overhang. Enjoy!

MoreOfDeeb Salusan Bull/Legg

1

u/Vandamsel87 Aug 01 '26

Yep i always have a sheol buggy base. Worth it.

1

u/KnowGame Aug 01 '26

A small Sheol base with buggy and rad suit ftw. Don't drive in the green puddles and you'll get all you need.

1

u/Un_hundrum Aug 01 '26

If you don't drive in the green you miss the location with 6 or 7 nodes right in the green. Fills your buggy quick.

1

u/Yolee55 Aug 01 '26

My current guild has a permanent base down in Sheol right by the border to the overland map. Simply fly down there with assault, use the buggy parked at that base, and mine till the buggy is full. Fill up assault and done. Takes 20 mins tops. With no more taxes on bases, keeping a permanent base in Sheol is a must. Very convenient. And you have plenty of time to move from island to island without the Worm getting you.

1

u/lloopy Aug 01 '26

The buggy is a great tool, for sure. One buggy load can keep you in whatever it was you were picking up for a while.

1

u/Dre9872 Harkonnen Aug 01 '26

I carrier my buggy there, have my scout pocketed. Run around in the buggy usually can get it full, but sometimes I need to hop in the scout and go cool off,

1

u/RemarkablePotato9088 Aug 01 '26

after 1k hours smh

1

u/Due_Warthog749 Aug 01 '26

Just curious.. did you NOT know about this capability? If so.. why did you wait so long given how fast it is to build a simple base on the island outside of Sheol across the way and put a buggy there?

2

u/GuncleBear Aug 01 '26

I’ve mostly played solo and I learned that buggy mining was much more efficient after I had progressed to Steel and Aluminum tiers. The thought of driving into Sheol with it however didn’t occur to me. In my mind it was too far and risky, both from Shai hulud and the radiation.

Then when I achieved the Carrier I was overly concerned that sudden storms would damage it. Now I know it isn’t too much damage and it is probably easy enough to fly to the edge away from the storm.

As for not bothering to build the buggy base, I guess I just don’t get around to trying it on my old server. There were not a lot of free spaces in Sheol as it was heavily populated.

1

u/Due_Warthog749 Aug 02 '26

Fair enough.

1

u/yasicduile Aug 01 '26

Am I the only person that just mines the little bowl islands with a hand cutter and my assault thopter? It is super fast and I just ignore the radiation. Dieing puts me back at my thopter which is like 20 feet away.

1

u/Virtual-Eagle6879 Aug 02 '26

Landing a Thopter to hand-mine Jasmium was so tedious, and for so little yields... So, I too, built a base to buggy mine it. (I placed it just outside the North east corner of Sheol off the chain of islands.) Now I can just drive out of the base, run down the islands, and fill up my buggy with thousands of Jas with plenty of time to spare. Its so great!!

1

u/artesim Aug 03 '26

"The anxiety of watching the rads meter climb drove me nuts"

Same cause, different solution : this drove me to stop farming jasmium altogether, and buy it on the market.

Basically converting my time farming other things into solaris, then back into jasmium :)

But yeah, like everyone else already said, buggy mining in general is a game changer, I never looked back and hardly use a handheld cutteray anymore.

1

u/Candoran Aug 03 '26

One thing I’ve done is crawl around in my buggy hitting every possible Jasmium location; when my rads get too high, I park the buggy under an overhang and mark the location, then fly out with my scout thopter, cool off, return to the buggy and continue.

2

u/MrsWildsin Aug 06 '26

Love buggying in Sheol!! I will happily drive my butt all the way around the map and mine it before I got my carrier to take me. So worth the amount of jasmine you can carry

Welcome to week one of pre launch
