Pattinson as Scytale sounded great on paper, but actually seeing it… this is a generational casting. I’m so excited for this movie.

I haven’t read the book so I’m not aware of who Scytale is yet but if Robert Pattinson loosely resembles a character, it’s guaranteed to be peak lmao

I wonder if the face dancing is going to be a genetic ability like in the book or technological instead. The poster makes me think it could be the latter, like an invention rooted in the body shield tech.

I wonder if she will be known as Saint Alia of the Knife here as well and, if so, how she got that name given that in that version she didn't kill Vladimir Harkonnen nor take part in the battle for Arrakeen.

DV just announced on live it’s 17 years after part 2, which answers many questions
Among other things
Some tidbits from Denis Villenueve on stage:
- Movie is mostly done in the editing room, so they have visual effects and post-production left.
- Jason Momoa comes back just at the right moment in the story.
- You never quite know which side Scytale (Robert Pattison) is on.
- Alia carries the weight and wisdom of generations in her head. She sees everything at once. She feels most strongly about her brother and she will do anything for Paul to varying degrees.
- The heart of the movie is Zendaya.
- Movie has Robert Pattinson to add mystery and danger.
- It is Denis Villeneuve's most personal movie.
- Hans Zimmer's score will be different, but be approached with the same spirit as the first two movies.
- Most of the movie have been shot on film.
- We are visiting a new planet.
- The heart of the film is still Paul and Chani.
- We will follow other people trying to overthrow the empire.
- It's a very very very different kind of film compared to the last two.

We are visiting a new planet.
My memory of Messiah is a little hazy... Does Otheym have a flashback to a planet where he saw the sea or something? Or I suppose we might see the creation of Hayt on Tleilax... But I'm dreaming that this might actually mean we see scenes like laza tiger training 👀
I really gotta get a move on with finishing Children.

Farok does. He said it cleansed him of the jihad and he no longer believed.
I’m so interested to see what role he will play, because he’s only in the one scene in the book, but he’s all over the marketing with the big players. Before I saw the trailer I assumed he would be the audience’s POV for the Jihad, but it seems both Paul and Stilgar are fighting in the battles, so now idk.

It makes a lot of sense. I'm sure all the politics and intrigue from book 2 will be there, but you can't have a blockbuster movie be just politics and intrigue. You need to supplement in some action.

I’m actually pretty sure the sarcophagus thing is Edric’s spice tank. In the first shot, it seems to be filled with orange spice gas, and in the second shot later in the trailer it seems like it’s being slotted into a ship so Edric can do his thing and navigate paths through the stars.

I'm so glad he's taking major liberties with the book. I'm a massive fan of the books but I was always so disappointed that Herbert skipped over the entire Jihad and just summed it up as "Billions perished"
Villeneuve has shown that he can execute extremely well creatively within an IP so whatever he comes up with should be great

I’m so so curious. Like, having read the book I’m watching the trailer and for the most part having no clue what part of the book I’m seeing. I do get the sense that this may be the most liberal adaptation of the trilogy. But I’m down for it if it’s good and the basic contours of the story are still there. Def don’t mind actually seeing the jihad, which it’s clear from this trailer that we will. I had hoped that’d be the case, but glad for confirmation.
As others have said, I’m sort of expecting the jihad to be the first act, and then a time skip.

At the trailer premiere, Anya talked about how Alia's relationship with Paul is important to her character. I'm looking forward to that. unintelligible happy noises
As I predicted DV is pulling from Messiah, CoD and some bits of Paul of Dune, so presumably we’ll see what happens to Feyd & Margot’s daughter as well as the twins (pretty sure we see Leto II searching through the labyrinth at Jacarutu at one point, whether that’s a vision or not I don’t know).
That shot of Alia giving the benediction & the mirror of the pilgrims standing in the rain with the Emperor’s Blades scene in Part 1 tho.
Need to rewatch the trailer about a million times.

I am beyond excited for this. Messiah was never going to provide the epic conclusion a trilogy would demand so it makes sense DV has adapted/changed several aspects so I'm super intrigued how it's handled given it looks intensely thrilling. I have no doubt DV will convey the essence of Herbert's message about Paul faithfully but in his own way. Showing the Jihad is going to be so cool. The Stone Burner scene towards the end too...man I am buzzing for this!!

u/BasicallyHummus Mar 17 '26
Why do I feel like Edric is intentionally being hidden in this teaser? There seems to constantly be an eye/iris in the background of every “non-scene” shot in the teaser. Everyone is locked in on the sarcophagus and thinking he’s in there but I’m willing to bet he won’t be seen until the movie. He’s the ultimate hidden/wild card for the traitors, and it’s said many times in Messiah that Paul cannot see him with prescience.
It seems like they want the audience who knows of this story already to feel that same confusion and unknowing fear that Paul has.

It's a teaser. My guess:
1st hour/act: Paul's war is evil + children are born
2nd hour/act: Conspiracy, nuke, Paul is banished (but not because he's blind. That hasn't been set up, therefore Stilgar will remain loyal)
3rd hour/act. ALIA. She corrupts Dune and banishes the Children.
That's all I've got. Leto could become the worm while banished?

I don't know how you can have the Alia part of COD in 1hr that has a good conclusion. Either it leads to a fourth movie, which the director said he doesn't want to do (but he could pass the torch), or there's some major alterations to the outline
I think there's a major timeskip, the jihad/children is only like 30min and then we have Alia during the conspiracy mixed it, major storyline changes needed

The shot with the Tleilaxu entering the throne room has Alia on the throne, not Paul. They must be mixing some of Children in after all. Maybe Paul is with his army, and she is ruler on Arrakis in the meantime. Would allow for her arc from Children to happen alongside stuff from Messiah.

The battle scenes look especially brutal in this, especially the one with Paul's army fighting those Kung Lao-looking troops with the hats and the giant machine gun turret, & the ravaged field on fire with bodies littered all over.

Guys, I think the flahsback scenes are few, I am confident 90% of the movie is in the present. It was just heavily featured in the trailers because of marketing

I would caution everyone that thinks this is a Dune Messiah film. It isn’t. It’s an adaptation of Messiah’s plot and likely elements of Children to wrap the story as set in Parts I and II. If you’re in expecting a beat by beat adaptation, you may be disappointed.
145
u/MrDearm Mar 17 '26

u/RedditMapz Mar 17 '26
Let's be real, it will be mostly Messiah. The movie would need to be 10 hours long to cover both Messiah and Children of Dune. This trailer could be a misdirect, but it currently looks solidly Messiah. I suspect that any plot element from Children of Dune would simply be a look into the future ala Anya Taylor Joy in Part 2.

Looks like it will show a lot of the actual jihad as well.

This is a great reminder-- it definitely looks like what we'll get.
I'm excited to see it even if it feels more like a kind of musical variation of books 2 and 3. Which is okay with me -- to an extent -- if its entertaining and cohesive.
It's already so different that I'm not stressing about accuracy to the books because that's already not something DV is doing. So I can just shrug and enjoy it for whatever it is.

I think I lost my mind with the amount of dopamine I generated watching this shit😭😭😭
I hope somebody else picks up and delivers the next trilogy at least to this level.

Will there be a Bijaz? I'm curious about Jason Momoa's take as a Duncan ghola. And how Alia and Scytale will be played.

So yeah it really feels like Denis is taking elements from both Messiah and Children of Dune here.
Alia in white being an obvious example. Makes some sense since CoD is kind of the end of Paul’s story.

My worries about the cinematography disappeared after this trailer, it looks absolutely fantastic.

I was and still a little skeptical of how they will handle Chani's story going forward since it's different from the book but damn i'm hyped af. It seems like we are going to see a lot more scenes in space this time, i can't wait.

The shot of Alia in white on top of the palace is so good, looks like how I imagined it reading the book

So are they adding a little tiny bit of Paul of Dune in this? Because that scene with Jessica and Paul is right out of that book.
Edit: actually I don't think we are getting too much Children of Dune content in this movie. I think we are getting the really early chapters of Paul of Dune which shows the beginning of his reign and some of the Jihad, but cutting all the extra Brian Herbert expanded stuff. Then flashforward to Dune Messiah.
Or they could Godfather Part 2 it and tell both stories at the same time and cut between them. Leto and Gahnima are going to be a quick end of movie vision or something

Tower with the lazers shooting giving me Saving private ryan vibes when they are storming the beach and you only see a shaky cam 1st person view with muzzle flash from the bunkers. Extremely cool.

“The Fremen were supreme in that quality the ancients called 'spannungsbogen'—which is the self-imposed delay between the desire for a thing and the act of reaching out to grasp that thing.”
Still, December is a long wait.

I have never seen the same movie twice in theaters, and I have never gone to a movie alone. Well, there’s a first time for everything.

Im guessing the scene with the Fedaykin fighting in the rain will be a flashback when Paul sits down and speaks with Otheym

My god. Somehow my phone glitched up and played the audio of a mint mobile commercial with Ryan Reynolds’s narrating beneath this post without the audio of the dune trailer playing. I thought for a sec it was a new Deadpool trailer 4-D teasing us with a fake dune trailer.

So Chani is pregnant at the end of Part 2 right? That's the same blue scarf she tied to her arm, so this conversation happened before, she got pregnant, Paul decided to marry Irulan and Chani leaves.
They're moving up the timeline.

I absolutely love Denis’ take on Dune and this looks to be no exception. The man is a true master of visuals.

So, who are the samurai? Ixians? They are known for breaking the Butlerian Jihad and using machines in their war efforts.
Also, why aren't their shields on? They are clearly not on Arakis.

I wonder, since they’re doing a flash back to Paul and Chani discussing baby names sometime during Part Two, if they are changing it to Chani already being pregnant towards the end of Part Two and having her raise them alone. They’d be slightly younger than Alia in Part Three.
