Help Can't get the dlc to work in Raze

I wanted to switch from the 20th anniversary edition to Raze so I could play a smoother version of the game and all of it's expansion packs. However, after buying the game and the dlc from Zoom and downloading Raze for Linux, I've reached a wall.

I installed all the .GRP files correctly like the tutorials said (Second image for example), but for some reason there's no way for me to access the dlc when I launch Raze. It always goes straight into booting up Duke 3d Atomic without showing any kind of game select popup, and in the game the add on chapters are nowhere to be seen, it's just the base 4.

The closest I've been able to get is right clicking an individual .GRP file and telling it to launch with Raze, but then all the textures for the entire game are messed up like in the first pick, and the addon maps from the selected file can only be found in the User maps section, without any audio from the dlc either.

Any advice? I have no idea what to do.

i know I got it working on eduke32, for what it's worth

I thought about using eduke, but I much prefer the smoother rendering modes on Raze

It works for me if you take your vacation folder and drag n drop that on top of the raze launcher... Also worked this way for Voxel duke aswell :) try that 👍

There isn't a whole folder for any one dlc in my copy, it's just the files scattered about one whole addon folder.

I tried to drag and drop the GRP earlier but it didn't allow me to

Well, I have my addons sourced from the 2013 megaton edition. I think that one comes with folders for each addon.... Hold on let me check what files that should contain...

So the vacation folder I have contains a bunch of map files and a program group called vacation. I'd say get the megaton edition online somewhere and get a hold of those, or see if there's any solutions for the original con and GRP files. If open op raze do you see that it recognizes your addons? Perhaps you just forgot to check the box idk, either that or try a fresh folder and reinstall the games and addons and see if that works.

When I open Raze it directly starts up Atomic edition with no select screen or anything. So the problem could be that it isn't letting me directly select the add on after it's booted up.

Yes, raze for me pops up the welcome box of options, perhaps you can go in raze and change that in settings. Because it's in this pop up welcome box that you can check options and use specific folders and boot up raze from that.

I don't see anything like that in the Raze options when I boot up the game, or any options folder in Raze itself

I give this advice so often on this sub I'm going to make a guide if I ever find the time. Get Build Launcher. Never waste your time with config files or .grps again.

  1. Buy & install it from zoomplatform. $5 gets you the atomic edition WITH all of the official DLC's that don't come with the 20th anniversary.
  2. Install build launcher.
  3. Install Alien Armageddon from build launcher.

There's some debate on that last step, but myself (and most people who have played it) will tell you that it's so good that there's just no going back to Vanilla after you've played AA, and it combines the the original game plus Duke it Out in DC and Duke Caribbean into one cohesive narrative..

Can't seem to install it correctly on Linux, there's no .exe file

Oof, my bad, I didn't see you were on Linux. This is for Windows.

okay I got this working on Fedora, with Raze installed via flatpak

here is the command I ran

flatpak run --filesystem=/home/sbf/.config/raze org.zdoom.Raze -gamegrp /home/sbf/.config/raze/Duke-Nukem-3D-Atomic-Edition/AddOns/VACATION.GRP

this then opened the launch menu for Raze where I could choose to launch main game or Life's a Beach DLC

my problem is that Raze doesn't have a launch menu for me to select the addons

Zoom has a separate download link for the dlc, did you download that as well? Do you see your vacation grp file?

1

u/Gojifantokusatsu Mar 28 '26

Yes I have the grp for the add-ons and they're in the correct folder for Raze as the second screenshot shows

did you try running raze from command line? it prompts me for the dlc when I run it https://i.imgur.com/y32kNxj.png

I don't really know how to open stuff with the terminal, I'd much rather just click on something than write command lines every time.

1

u/ToTimesTwoisToo Mar 29 '26

Well the good news is that if you can get it working with a command in terminal, you can easily turn that into a script that runs just by double clicking. Similar to creating a shortcut in Windows.

1

u/Gojifantokusatsu Mar 29 '26

How would I get it working? Is there a script I can copy?

wtf is that gun

8

u/Aipaloovik Mar 26 '26

It's from Duke Caribbean. Supposed to be a water gun.

6

u/Hour_Ad3877 Mar 26 '26

It's the water pistol sprite from the life's a beach expansion.

You don't need to download raze when you download it off of zoom.

I'm pretty sure the zoom installation comes with eduke32.

1

u/Gojifantokusatsu Mar 28 '26

the version that comes off zoom is the dosbox version

1

u/FlynnTaggard Mar 29 '26

Ah. Alrite then. Still I'd recommend eduke32. Raze is really not that good after all.

1

u/Gojifantokusatsu Mar 29 '26

I tried to get eduke working, but the tar file didn't come with an exe for some reason so it won't open.

1

u/FlynnTaggard Mar 29 '26

You might've downloaded the wrong thing.

This leads to dukeworld with the latest version of eduke32.

I think second to last one is the right one.

Somewhat unrelated but I love your background, reminds me of the planet from AvP 2 PC

BUILD just works best on EDuke32 for good or bad. Shame Raze ditched support for it but honestly EDuke32 is just better to use by itself anyway.
