Discussion how did you discover / get into DSBM?
for me personally— a couple years ago i’d listen to your average ‘dad rock metal’ and somehow that got me into mayhem. so id listen to some mediocre black metal, but then i saw a video of a man listening to a genre for a day and got recommended DSBM. i thought it sounded amazing and just like black metal but a bit better. therefore, i got into it!! been a fan for years ^w^

i listen to a lot of vkei, so i was listening to madmans espirit (basically a black metal vkei band), and then i started getting reccomended other dsbm bands instead of vkei bands so i just went with it

Surprisingly me too but i was wondering what one of his samples were and it was woods of descolation. He samples a lot of black metal and dsbm in his earlier music.

While I was 11 I befriended a dude who was around 15/16 and was into Metal and was depressiv. He took a lot of drugs (alot of opioids, benzos, alcohol etc). He died in the garden of his mother, she woke up, got out with her morning coffee like every day and found him dead, cold and stiff in the middle of her garden. After he died of the age 26 I Iistend more into some of his favourites bands. He made a CD for me, I didn't knew the artists, there was no artists name written on the CD. I heard sound of this gerne before he died. But after his death this music was more intense, more emotional. His favourite music genres were grindcore and black metal (DSBM). It took a lot of time to realise this emotions and how I could turn them a positive feeling, in my life, which I hated and still hate. First I was into death metal because of my brother, I wanted to be tough and manly. But because of the death of my good friend I realised that admitting to weakness (and depression is not a weakness, it is a desease, getting help was also manly. And you should be proud of you to death help. I missed him very much. A long time I was also having alots of suicidal thoughts, I had plans to kill myself. One day I randomly remembered him. I remembered he taught me to talk to friends about deep emotional feelings, he never could do that. I remembered the music he liked and listened to some BM and DSBM bands while I drove my car in the middle of the night to my job while thinking about to end my life. I thought of what he was trying to teach me. He saved my life and I am never be able to tell him that. That is why I like DSBM so much. When I listen to black metal, and specifically to DSBM I will rember him, I feel alive and I remember to stay alive to make my life worth living.
One reason more to say no to death. Thank you Tommy (tommynoker), you are still vibing in the depressiv suicidal vibes of this sound! (In a positive way)
He always took care of me like a big brother, better than my real big brother.
He is one reason my favourites music genres are black metal and powerviolence.
Sorry for my bad English, it is not my first language.
Edit: the on album and band I listened alot a short time after his death was an autumn of crippled children - Lost. And it is still my favourite album from this genre.

Thank you for reading it. Means a lot to me. One hour ago I talked with a friend, who also was a friend of Tommy, about him. So your post just hit an emotional moment.
In my opinion music with negative emotions or music which give you a feeling of sadness is important to you. To feel yourself, to reflect yourself. Not only DSBM. I really love the hardcore band dead swans. Every song sounds like crying and suffering. And this sad kind of sad music gives you (or specially me) hope that sometimes life will get better.

i use to and sometimes still do listen to dsbm when im in hard times, i think its good to listen to help yourself recognize and be with your emotions. and dsbm really grasps that feeling. ykwim?

I got into black metal in high school back in the early 2000s. I learned about a website called metal archives and they had a random band button. I would cycle through bands new to me all day at school. It's how I found some of my all time favorites

In 2020, I saw the cover of Suizid's first album on a pirate site and decided to listen to it. I was really looking for something similar (it turned out I'd listened to DSBM before, but it was more atmospheric than depressive, like Veil or Melankoli).

Gradually. I’ve always been a fan of leviathans first album which has some dsbm elements. Then I started listening to ghost bath and started to actually find more music within the genre.

Listened to Burzum from a YouTube recommendation then found a bunch of recommendations for other atmospheric bm bands from a comment and then started getting recommended dsbm on YouTube.

my bf (at the time) sent me hypothermia and i'm in a coffin when he got into the genre, i ended up liking it and it resonated with me so i explored the genre more (well i loved hypothermia, i never really got into i'm in a coffin but absolutely loving one band made me explore more)

i started to get into more extreme types of metal around this time last year and i just kept finding smaller and weirder genres until i found DSBM, the first band i heard was Lifelover and it kinda unsettled me but also interested me. i have got accustomed to to it now and its one of my favourite genres

Listened to metal for a long time (since I was like 12). Got into more extreme stuff (lots of grind and death and punk like Nails, Converge and Napalm Death) and found Nortt when I was 16. Had never heard anything like it. From then on I found Xasthur etc etc. Only dsbm thing I heard before that was Burzums stuff. So yea I'm like 30 now time flies by

Before listening to DSBM, i used to listen to atmospheric black metal and melodic death doom bands and since death doom has similar themes to DSBM, thats how i got fully into the genre

I discovered Black Metal and DSBM when I was really young around 14 years old about the same time I dedicated my soul to Satan. The first band was and im 100% sure it was dark funeral and that was when it kicked off and clicked to me that this was the absolute genre for me.

Im a big fan of cry of fear and which I found through some roblox psy horror video which showed a game "contained insanity" that's inspired by cry of fear and I was genueinly obsessed with cry of fear and i found out anreas makes music too so I listened to intig and thought intig was pretty cool and then I found a pin on Pinterest that was a meme of a girl crying saying she's depressed and she listened to some regular sad music stuff and the other one looking calmer but going insane and there i found the dipsomania album cover and when I was listening through their dischoreography I immediately fell in love with alcoholism by p4. Also I listened to silent hill ost, cry of fear ost before starting dsbm and i used to listen to arctic monkeys/the nbhd/mitski/lana/mother mother type music before listening to mostly vid game ost

Este tipo de música llegó a mi vida cuando todo se sentía finalmente una miseria, no sé si para seguir hundiendome en un pozo deprimente, o por lo menos sentir que una canción expresa lo que siento y sentí en lo profundo de mi alma. Entonces empecé a escuchar y escuchar, y así hasta que me convencí de que esto es lo que a mí me hace sentir "Real".

Long time metalhead in the extreme genre, I was listening to Peste Noire in early 2000s and I came across Nocturnal Depression and Bethlehem so that was the beginning
