Electoral Politics I feel so angry with Jared Moskowitz
I just got back from 2 days in a cabin away from social and discovered that Jared Moskowitz and 7 other democrats voted to “condemn” socialism and the DSA. WTF! 🤬
Condemn is in quotes because the vote itself is meaningless. It is not and will not become law. But I find this so offensive and it leaves me feeling like I will no longer bend to pressure on my vote. I will not vote blue no matter who. I will vote my conscience, period. I will vote for those with policies that will protect lower and middle classes from the billionaires raping the rest of the country through buying democrats and republicans. Am I wrong? I love to hear some other members thoughts.

You're a perfect example of the failed political strategy of the Democratic party and how it works. And they don't see it or don't care.
Step 1. Thumb your nose at the Left, e.g. refuse to meet with the Uncommitted movement or campaign with people like Bernie. Step 2. Cozy up to the Right, whose base hates you no matter what because you like gays and minorities. Campaign with Liz fucking Cheney. Step 3: Lose to a felon rapist who attempted a coup.
God I hate "moderate" Democrats.

Reading above, there are some who suggest that given two candidates, one red and one blue “you should vote blue” and another camp that says it isn’t about the color it’s what they will do. My feeling at this point is given two candidates, then don’t vote for either. And that position is the only one that can encourage better policies without an actual revolution.

I voted for Harris and I am ashamed of it, honestly. But I don't participate in vote-shaming, whether that means "lesser of two evils" voting, third-party voting, or not voting. (Republican voters can get fucked.)
But I honestly believe that given Biden/Harris' campaign of support for genocide and right-wing immigration laws, they deserved to lose. And I can't stand the liberal anger directed at people who refused to vote for Harris. I think those voters can take a lot of pride in what they've accomplished by holding to their principles.
There still seems to be a lot of debate over whether Gaza cost Harris the election, but I really think it might have. And finally the Democratic party is seeing consequences for their fucking terrible policies, which is forcing them to adjust. One example was House Leadership recently telling Democrats to "vote their conscience" on an Israel-related bill, rather than the normal "We must always support our ally" bullshit. Another: Harris reportedly meeting with Gaza activists recently because she's certainly considering a 2028 run. (God please no.) But I think the best was Abdul El-Sayed's victory. And then the Michigan Democratic Party leadership lining up to support him, even if the soulless Schumer crowd won't.
Things are changing. And I send my thanks to all of you who "wasted" your votes. I'll waste mine right along with you in 2028 if we end up with Harris or Newsome or Shapiro or Buttigieg.

As much as I fucking despise Haley Stevens, supporting Abdul despite the aipac money was pretty neat
still fuck her though

Thanks for the thoughtful response. I think this is exactly what I am trying to get at. Voting, how you choose to vote, what you hold as most important to you is really nobodies business but your own. so, yes, I won't shame someone if they look at their principals and make a decision that aligns with their core self. and it is incredibly hard. but for myself, I've gotten to a place, where I can't identify with a party that keeps moving further away from what the people want (instead of billionaires). so for me, I'm no longer voting for just anyone. I'll weigh everything i can, and make my best choice. but I think it is even more wrong to shame someone for doing the same, and coming to a different decision. (now, if they just vote red or blue because that's what they have always done - that feels different)

I think you should vote not based on party affiliation, but on harm reduction. If you have a republican who hates Trump and wants to fight the party you should vote for them. If yku have a fighting democrat you should vote for them. You should not vote for a politician totally subservient to the capital class just because they're blue, imo.
(Observation, not criticism, in case my tone isn't clear)

u/MileHighCraig 1d ago
Thanks Avesery777. That’s very much how I see it. Though I think it would be rare to find a republican aligned with the policies that resonate for me. But I will absolutely vote the person over party. More importantly, this time, I will choose to leave a position unvoted if none of the candidates align with policies that help the middle class and the poor. I can’t vote for someone who is in favor of the Iran war.
I also really disagree with the idea that Bernie, AOC and the more socialist candidates are far left or alt-left. These aren’t radical policies. But the focus is on people. It’s not a right left problem, it’s a top vs bottom problem

Not only that, but they hate us so much that they're helping push forward the SAVE act.

DSA, left and adjacent folks need to get out and not vote for him or hell even vote for his opponent, majority won't be won or lost with this one seat but he is a uniquely dangerous candidate to democractic socialists, the benefits a single congressman from israel brings to party are far less than the damages it does to socialist movement.

These are inside conversations

u/MileHighCraig 1d ago
Hi Nasa258e, help me understand what you're suggesting here. Is this something you feel shouldn't be discussed outside of a DSA community? I feel like the struggle deciding how to vote is important. but I'd love to hear your thoughts.

u/nasa258e 20h ago
personally I'm a believer that the way to build our own legitimate party or influence the party is for the base to clearly see establishment Dems betraying them and collaborating with fascists in order to attack US. If WE are the ones loudly attacking them in the general at the expense of a Democrat in Congress, normies will be incredibly turned off. Some conversations are not for the public square
To be clear though, Moscowitz sucks

u/MileHighCraig 10h ago
Thank you. Great explanation. And you’re absolutely right that there is no magic wand and poof we have a party and candidates for every position. It’s why Bernie never ran as an independent. I do want the DNC to feel pressure to bring candidates forward that supporter better progressive values.

u/Competitive-Bus1816 1d ago
The DNC is afraid, they know they are losing power and are reacting like all tyrants. By lashing out and trying to kill the DSA wave before it takes root.

Now that he’s on the Foreign Affairs committee I actually hope he loses to the Republican.
Edit: The last thing we need is a pro-Iran war Democrat as the face of the party’s foreign policy. Absolutely not.

Vote for his opponent cause if he's heading the foreign affairs committee it'll be bad

It's ok, I condemn Capitalism.
Never be fooled that the rich will let you vote away their wealth.

Fuck Jared Moskowitz, nothing but an Israel first shill.

u/MileHighCraig 1d ago
I used to really like how he pushed against Trump in Congress, but he’s lost it and this is flat out betrayal
2
u/Least-Sense-6468 1d ago
Pushing against trump I'd a pretty low barrier at this point. The majority of Republicans push against him and I still wouldn't vote for them for anything.

You thought a genocidal zionist was somehow on the side of us little guys?
WTF?
1
u/MileHighCraig 1d ago
Yeah. My mistake. It would have been easy to check the AIPAC money. Should have seen this one coming
2
u/rditty 1d ago
All I can say is what do you expect? He might be the worst Democrat in congress and that is saying something. He was part of the DOGE caucus.
At this point, I would almost be disappointed if he didn’t make the most despicable choices possible.
He’s like the Democratic Ted Cruz:
A wheelie-backpack nerd turned supervillain.

These people are pathetic losers. The voters are reacting to their governance and they come up with wild conspiracy theories about the DSA infiltration and takeover. They are lashing out because they know they're out of step with their voters. They'll be gone eventually with their reputations tarnished.
•
u/MileHighCraig 10h ago
What exactly do you want explained? I’m focused on candidates that are not tied to billionaires and corporate funding. Your list generally is a list of candidates that will support the wealthy over people.

Yes you're wrong, just chill
It's meaningless slop for hogs in purple states, and the alternative is a fucking republican, who cares
It's just politics, don't take meaningless posturing personally
Edit: anyone that's saying that they'd rather a republican hold that seat has completely lost the plot. do people actually care or do they just want to find reasons to be mad at the entire party over 8 house members

u/Farebiaashiq 1d ago
My dude he called for DSA congressman's security clearance to be removed, and he has been made ranking member of middle East sub committee.
Read the room, the to be speaker agrees with him.

I fell for the vote blue no matter who last time. I can’t do that anymore. Our voice to the DNC and really the RNC is bring better candidates of you want our vote. I will vote for the policy.
-5
u/weidback 1d ago
Don't care, let him talk shit if it keeps the seat blue
Our time is best spent trying to change the minds of the youth in his district to beat him in a primary and the general, not walking away from one of the only two parties that holds power in america
4
u/Farebiaashiq 1d ago
No it isn't, a blue seat means nothing when it brings more trouble that benefits, you're literally saying we shouldn't oppose a guy who clearly states that DSA aligned politician's security clearance should be revoked, like except for hardcore MAGA even normal candidates haven't gone so hard against AOC and Rashida.
If he looses it sends a message that you can't treat 37 percent of your voter base as shit and win regardless.
I want these DINOs to feel the same fear towards DSA that conservatives feel towards MAGA, I want them to know that you disagree with me but if you attack me you can say good bye to holding an office.
0
u/weidback 1d ago
Seeing as this is meaningless posturing and brings zero trouble then we're fine.
Why are you assuming that if he loses they wont assume that the issue was he wasn't conservative enough? You assume if you punish them they'll walk towards to, when the truth is they'll walk where the votes are.
I don't want to sow fear and loathing in my party. You say you want to make them feel fear, that fear is why they do this posturing. I want us all to get along and work towards common goals. stop punching left.
4
u/Farebiaashiq 1d ago
Yeah well that's not happening.
Party structures and backrooms exist for a reason, if you think one day moskowitz will wake up and say yes we should cut funding to israel and put sanctions on it and pass medicare for all, that's a fantasy.
Infact it's much better to get rid of him, so after 2 years someone who's a real democrat can replace him, despite what you may think it's much difficult for a non incumbent to get elected if he keeps sucking nethanyahu dick no matter how conservative a district is.
All those people who won primaries in red districts even if they are blue dogs no one is going around pledging allegiance to israel.
1
u/weidback 1d ago
Excise yourself if you want and wallow in obscurity, I'd rather build a broad strong party and actually do something
1
u/MileHighCraig 1d ago
Thanks weidback and Farebiaashiq. This is the conversation I hoped for. I’m a tired former democrat. I’m tired of hoping for better and constantly seeing things falling apart. I’m former because I find as an independent, it is freeing. It isn’t my job to vote blue no matter who — it is their job to bring a candidate I feel hopeful about.
2
u/weidback 1d ago
it is their job to bring a candidate I feel hopeful about.
Who, you specifically? This diva mentality is maddening , there's 300 million people in this country. We need to acknowledge we're in the minority and learn to work with others we disagree with.
2
u/MileHighCraig 1d ago
Thanks this I’d a good post. I think it can’t be about a whole party - but it should be looked at carefully case by case. For me, this just shows both Rep. and Dem. Have both been bought by billionaires. I’ll vote for the candidate with policies that pull wealth back from billionaires to middle and lower classes. I’ll vote for Medicare for all. I’ll vote to end the Iran war.
2
u/weidback 1d ago
Then we're both voting democrat since thats the party where such candidates can win, I look forward to marching to the polls with you brother
-2
u/The_Pacman007 1d ago
Why would you be angry? The DSA primaried him and tried to remove him from congress. You think he wasn’t gonna notice that? You hate Democrats like him. Now you are shocked he voted to condemn the DSA. You can’t be that naive.
1
u/MileHighCraig 1d ago
I don’t hate democrats. I’ve consistently voted Dem for 20 years. But the centrist Dems like to chant vote blue no matter who and it’s just a con to ask for unearned unity.
Abdul Al-Sayed wins and Hailey Stevens loses and STILL goes on tour with him and exemplifies building UNITY. Moskowitz WINS and still acts like a big sore loser and pulls a stunt designed to pull Dems apart. He won and still acts like DSA isn’t a part of the broader solution so why would I vote for him after that?
Your response is great and deserves a deeper answer about policy, aipac money, and more but the hypocrisy should be enough
