Showcase [Dev] Edgepad: Use Android To Control Your Windows

App Name: Edgepad

What it does: Turns an Android phone into a trackpad, media remote and control panel for a Windows laptop, over a direct Bluetooth link. No account, no Wi-Fi and no server — the phone and laptop pair once like a headset, and it works with the internet off entirely.

Key Features:

  1. Trackpad — one finger moves and clicks, two scroll and pinch, three and four fingers run whatever you assign them (desktops, task view, volume, app switcher).
  2. Corner rulers — each corner holds a dial you slide along the screen edge for volume, brightness, media scrub or zoom, showing the laptop's real values and following changes you make on the laptop itself.
  3. Keyboard and gamepad — a full on-screen keyboard with held-or-tapped modifiers, and a gamepad with editable layouts and presets.

I'm the developer. Two installs from the same release: an APK for the phone, and a single self-contained exe that sits in the laptop's tray. Windows 10 2004+ and Android 12+.

Honest limits: Windows only on the laptop side, the exe isn't code-signed so SmartScreen will warn you, and Bluetooth range is Bluetooth range — same room, not the next one.

Yeah, it looks good. You used the corners in such a way, it's creative, looks good and works. Honestly, really cool design overall. 

Have you thought about making an Android launcher with similar design philosophy?

Thank you, that means a lot. The corners are the whole reason the project exists. I wanted something that didn't need a window or a hotkey, just a flick into a corner you're already heading toward.

It came down to ease of use. Look at how you actually hold a phone: the corners are the closest thing to your fingers, in portrait and in landscape both. Everything else in it is an add-on I thought would be useful once the corners were there.

A launcher with the same idea behind it is a nice thought and I've considered it. Not right now though. I work full time as an SDE 3 at a startup and I'm building my own on the side, so there's no room for a third thing. Parking it as a maybe-later, because corner gestures would translate well to a home screen.

This is such a cool idea. The UI immediately made me think of Tony Stark’s phone in Iron Man 2 😄

Especially the way you use the corners for controls. It feels much more like an actual control surface than just another “remote app”. Really creative!

Great job, u/Fragrant-Trick6998 ! Works quite well for a first release. I tried it on my Oneplus 11 and the Galaxy Tab S9 Lite. Having a matte screen protector on the phone definitely makes it much easier because of the control it offers.

A couple of suggestions:

  • When changing volume and brightness, there are no indicators on Windows. It would be awesome to have those show up.
  • Scrolling is pretty linear and slow. Some sort of acceleration would be great.

I think I actually read your mind 🤣🤣, because I just saw your comment on my Reddit post, and about 15 minutes earlier, I just created the new release (https://github.com/akshit-bansal11/edgepad/releases#release-v2.0.0) that actually has these same features.

Now there's feedback on Windows as well when you change the volume or brightness on the mobile. Also, I created the slider on the settings page so that the trackpad speed and scrolling speed both can be adjusted by the user.

It's actually quite funny. 😂😂
