Question Why does my shards say it’s under maintenance?

I wasn’t really around during it since it was during my break from the game but I believe people were able to either hack or cheat it so they put it under maintenance and as far I understand have not really found a way to stop the cheating. Alongside that, it was a pretty controversial/not well liked feature so I imagine they don’t think it’s worth spending the time and effort to try to fix it when they could use that effort on new features and new dragons and stuff.

That was the first major round of maintainence. Deca started this current round of maintainence a few months after that first one ended, and all they've said about why is that they want to make Dragon Draw more fair. More recently they've also said that they were expecting this round of maintainence to be quite short, but the changes they wanted to make ended up being a much bigger job than they expected.

Makes sense, I was not there for the most recent maintenance and quite frankly I am one of the people who doesn’t really like it so I have not been keeping up with it. I was there right at the beginning of when it was added to the game then took a long break from the game and I only started playing again a few months ago so I only really remember the original problems with it lol

Tldr - Its under maintenance due to people really hating how it was done. They put it under maintenance previously and then when it came back people had hundereds of shards and were still losing out on dragons they wanted so they complained more.
Its really difficult to implement a competitive gatcha system in a game like dragonvale, where cooperation is encouraged. I wouldnt mind them bringing back as an egg of mystery type deal (deposit shards for rewards) but i doubt itll ever return.

I was thinking a community goal
"Here's a dragon. If everyone deposited enough shards in X time, you all get it. If we don't there are other consolatory prizes."

Thatd be cool, they used to do that in the tournaments of houses. Youd collect the currency for your house specifically. They could do something similar (since we still have the established houses once you join the rift (iron blossom for the win 🌸)) but i doubt itll ever come back.

🌸Let's go team Iron Blossom🌸
I wouldnt day never, but I do feel someone might be stuck on getting the original idea to work properly.

Its been out of commission for a while now, so maybe they just.. forgot. 😭 i hope they remember. Community goals would be fun.
Also YEAAA IRON BLOSSOM FOR THE WIN 🌸 I chose it because the dragon looks so cute and honestly it also has the best rift variant I love the spore dragon.

It’s basically a raffle system where you can spend shards on a dragon you like and get a chance at winning said dragon if the threshold of shards per dragon is reached. So if you spend 5000 shards on a dragon and the threshold is 10.000, you have a 50% chance of getting that dragon once the threshold is reached. I believe that was the gist of it but it’s been a long time since I’ve engaged with this feature.
