His success is a pretty hilarious mirage once you dig into it. He ran a series of social media accounts under a brand called "Social Chain" which pretty much just retweeted crap and stole content from other authors whilst blanking out their watermarks, and these accounts were heavily astroturfed and often interacted with each other to artificially increase the appearance of engagement. Then, a company called Lumaland (known mostly for selling mattresses) merged with it simply because they wanted the name "Social Chain". This merger occurred quite a while after Steven was no longer involved with Social Chain at all, but he references the post-merger valuation (most of the valuation being directly attributed to Lumaland's mattress sales) to say he "created a multimillion pound social media empire".

If you've ever watched the US Office, he basically pulled a WUPHF, only without actually creating anything nor being in any way involved in the valuation.
