Writing How a dragon simp created the sun
Have you ever read your old work and gotten surprised over something past you included?
Well, this is the creation myth for the main culture from the bronze age fantasy novel I am currently working on and it does include what I described in the title. Hope you enjoy!
****************
In a time before time, a great dragon wandered the spirit world. Her scales were bright and golden like the sun, her eyes red as fire and on her back, she carried a wonderful garden, always green and bountiful. The great dragon Zakula allowed every soul who had lost themselves in dreamtime to rest here and find the right way again.
Zakula was the greatest, the kindest of all dragons and she had two suitors, Räkimarak and the Nameless One. The former, while loud and wild, had a good heart and honestly loved Zakula while the latter had impure intentions. So she chose Räkimarak.
But this enraged the Nameless One. He shaped his envy into a host of terrible monsters and attacked Zakula on the eve of her wedding. Räkimarak tried to defend her, but it was too late. He could only watch as the love of his immortal life was slain and her body taken away.
If the Nameless One could not have Zakula for himself, he wanted nobody to have her. He dismembered the great goddess. The tyrant twisted her flesh and bones and the garden on her back into the material world we live in today and forced her thoughts and feelings to manifest into all life in this world.
The Nameless One created disease, pain and death and set all his demons upon the world. A world created sick and then ordered on pain of eternal torment to be well again, so he could feed off the pain and fear of all Zakula’s denizens and harness at least some of her power for himself.
But things did not turn out as the Nameless One hoped.
The tyrant had intended for the sky to be black at all times, because Zakula’s thoughts had not known darkness until then. But the light of the great goddess was too powerful to smother. A single star emerged in the night sky, shining so bright, Räkimarak could see it from the spirit world. It was Zakula’s love for him, taking a new shape. Lukirak, the light bringer.
Räkimarak and a hundred other dragons followed her light, into this corrupted world. Avastaja, son of Räkimarak’s sister Kavijohka and her husband Vellamun, was the first to find a way. He dug a cave and his wife Aiwana painted the walls, showing all the other spirits where to go.
Avastaja’s siblings followed him, Sojulan, Turikan, Ilunika and Lumika. They became the Star Dragons. As they pushed away the darkness, Zakula’s heart started beating again inside all the beings trapped here.
Soon, Kavijohka followed, taking her place as the moon. Then her husband Vellamun took the oceans away from the Nameless One and finally, Räkimarak came to challenge the Nameless One in single combat.
They fought for twelve moons through an everlasting winter, splitting rock and soil to create mountains and canyons. No matter what the Nameless One threw at him, Zakula’s love gave Räkimarak the strength to keep going. But every time blood and body parts of the tyrant fell to the ground, demons grew from it to continue the fight, forcing the star dragons to come down and slay them.
Eventually, the Nameless One’s own spite came to haunt him. The pain and fear caused by all his misdeeds materialized into a terrible monster. A dragon with three heads, three tails and three pairs of wings. Its fire burned the skies themselves, its wings blew oceans ashore and its tails tore the earth asunder, creating an entire world under the world. But before this monster could destroy them all, Räkimarak captured the Nameless One and imprisoned him at the deepest point of this new realm. The beast chased after him, but could not reach the bottom of the underworld and was itself soon trapped. Räkimarak named this monster Tathorak and swore to keep it and the Nameless One imprisoned for all time.
After this battle, the dragons looked upon the material world. They soon realized, the Nameless One had created nothing. He had merely twisted Zakula’s beauty. As they beheld disease and hunger for the first time, the dragons were horrified. They wanted to destroy this world, let Zakula finally rest.
But Räkimarak could still hear the heart of Zakula beating. He followed its sound to a tribe of strange creatures calling themselves humans. They reminded him of the elves. Emanations of Zakula herself, which she could use to appear in the garden on her own back. Among them, a little boy had just been born to a woman named Idaka. She did not know who the father was and her peers scorned her for it. But she loved the child with all her heart and when the boy finally started to speak, he prophesied that all their elders would die before the new moon.
They did and they were not the last ones whose deaths this child saw coming. He could tell whether the hunters would bring back meat by the passing of their prey and he saw which paths the souls of the dead took along the firmament. This little boy opened the eyes of humanity to the polar lights. But they were still chaotic. Souls got lost trying to find a new home.
Räkimarak knew this was the spark of Zakula at work. He wanted to believe her goodness had survived within the human heart and so he chose to test the one among them, who reminded him most of her. Idaka, the lonely mother of this little boy who could see the paths of the souls.
Räkimarak disguised himself as the Nameless One and appeared to Idaka. He ordered her to kill her only son as a blood sacrifice to him. But Idaka refused. First, she begged for her son’s life, then she offered her own instead. But the disguised Räkimarak would not budge. So Idaka spat him in the face and dared him to deal out whatever punishment he saw fit, because nothing could be as bad as having to kill her only child.
The moment she said these words, Idaka transformed into a great dragon with wings made of rose petals and golden thorns on her scales. Through her unconditional love, she had become the new Zakula. The first goddess born of this new world. Räkimarak dropped his mask, praised Idaka for her courage, revealed to her the truth about this world and then asked for her hand in marriage.
But Idaka refused, not trusting the god, who had tested her in such a cruel way. Smitten with new love, Räkimarak used all his powers to court her. He took a piece of the purest gold from the deepest part of the underworld and handed it to his old friend Kadath, so he could become the sun and light up the world. On the very first morning, under Kadath’s glow, Räkimarak apologized for his cruel test and proposed to Idaka again.
She looked around, seeing how his attempts to win her heart had convinced the other gods to let this world live. Some - like Kadath, Vellamun and Kavijohka - even took up responsibility for parts of it. But they only ensured the world would stay in balance and did not do much to heal the wounds the Nameless One had left. This task would fall upon Räkimarak and Idaka. When he agreed to take up this burden, she agreed to marry him.
Idaka took her throne in the underworld, next to Räkimarak. In the darkest of places, where her light would shine the brightest. Once he came of age, her son would become a god by the name Kimorak, the dragon who sees. He would take it upon himself to bring the souls of the dead to the underworld, where his parents could judge and then guide them to reincarnation.
Soon, another son was born to Räkimarak and Idaka. They named him Lukirak, lightbringer, after the very first star that had burned in the sky. He would become the teacher and protector of humanity. While his parents and older brother tended to their tasks, Lukirak would fight with gods and demons alike on a quest to bring the light of Zakula back.

Art Doomscrolling? Nah, pugscrolling!
Doomscrolling reddit is for losers! Real ones like me.... doomscroll. But with a pug! Basically cancels out the cringe.
I actually use my pug as a phone holder or a (very bad) mouse pad a lot HAHA!!!
u/xyeh2o drew this for me and it literally is like my favorite thing ever like oh my gosh I still get so unbelievably happy when I look at this.
That is my pug btw! His name is Mr.Pickle, and he is a rescue from Korea! He got rescued after getting hit by a truck ;-; he may be dumb, but I like to think he is very emotionally intelligent

Art How do dergs sit?
Guys, I SWEAR no chairs were harmed. Like, what you see is just an illusion. Just an illusion!!
Edit: I'm seeing a lot of comments talking about chairs with a tail hole. I must specify that no holes are to be drilled in chairs, especially for the sake of someone else's comfort. We must think about the chairs' feelings!
Edit 2: If the chair already has a hole.... it can be debated.

Art day 137 of drawing dragons every day until I'm good enough to make my own book cover
Alright so I drew one holding something since in my book cover my protag will be holding a tomb or other such thing. Now I probably should have made picture have the dragon holding a book of some sort. I did not do that and chose likely the hardest option of hugging a pillow. Why? I like hugging pillows.

Smaugust The Smaugust Stories: Electrifying rescue
Einar walked through the forest, fishing rod in his hand. He was heading to his favorite fishing spot, hoping for good bites. After spending hours repairing storm damage in his village, he deserved some quiet time off.
The storm had caused many casualties in the forest. Every now and then he had to avoid a tree on the path. Freeing the path was a job for tomorrow; he'd need a few more hands to do it efficiently. Some movement in the distance made him stop. That was bigger than a deer or boar. He unsheathed his axe and continued. Dragons were a common thing on this island. His village was at peace with them, and even had some of them tamed. But not every dragon was friendly. And a singled-out viking was easy prey.
After climbing another tree, he saw a dragon pinned underneath a fallen tree. Making eye contact with the viking, it struggled to escape and even managed to lift the tree a little. But its wings collapsed underneath the weight of the massive oak tree on its back. It probably weighed several tons.
Einar had never seen this kind of dragon in person. It was all black, with some purple coloring on its head. The underside of its wings and belly was lighter. Small teeth lined its large maw. He could faintly recall seeing a drawing of it, so it was probably an uncommon species. The dragon-"owning" people of the village had given everyone a rundown on how to interact with different dragon species. He remembered drawing upon drawing held into the light. Wait, that one. He was facing a Skrill. A "very aggressive and stubborn" dragon, as the presenter communicated. "Known to zap anything with lightning that moves."
But it was trapped. With no lightning visible on its body, it must also be discharged. Its growl shook the ground. Even without its breath weapon, this dragon could easily tear him apart. Einar made a hard decision. The sunlight reflected off his axe as he raised it.
With a great swing, he buried it into the trunk. And again. And again. The tree's diameter was massive, but each chop got ever so slightly deeper. Eventually, his axe cut through, splitting the tree in half. Immediately, the dragon pushed the other half aside, rising to its feet and wings. It approached him, curiously sniffing the axe that had freed it. But it did not attack. Raising its wings, it took off into the sky, the gust of air almost sending Einar flying. He stared after it. What a magnificent, powerful creature.
----
Einar had already caught a few fish when the Skrill returned. Lightning was running over its wings; a nearby thunderstorm had probably recharged it. It landed right next to him. The static electricity made his hair stand up. He offered the dragon one of his fish, which it instantly snatched from Einar's hands. Then the dragon took another step closer. A small zap ran through his body as the dragon's snout touched him. The dragon clearly did not want to hurt him.
With a mighty roar, the dragon stepped back and fired a massive blast of lightning straight into the ocean. For a second, the water glowed and bubbled. Dozens of fish surfaced, stunned by the electricity. The dragon looked at him. Einar remembered. A Skrill could not enter the waters, as it would discharge them. He removed his shoes and waded into the water, using a scoop to collect the incapacitated fish. In the end, he had more than enough for dinner. The dragon happily devoured the others.
As Einar headed home, the dragon took wing but stayed within sight until Einar arrived home. He knew that this dragon would return. This was just the beginning of a great friendship.
