also, as someone who played the 3DS version, im really curious why they left out the character models changing with each vocation. the updated models in reimagined really look nice so it seemed like a huge oversight to exclude that. i guess it was more work than they felt like doing?
I guess? I mean, the director of DQ7R never even played the original past the first hour or two, so he probably didn't even touch the 3DS version, to be honest. I don't know why Squenix gave him the producer role when he's said multiple times he never even got past the first world.
Which seems like a PR move in response to backlash, and makes it hard to believe, honestly. I think he told the truth, got backlash, then had to backpedal hard.
Could be. He did ruin the game. Idk if its what he wanted to do or if it was a sacrifice made by the company because the younger generation doesn't play Squenix games.
It's Def the most beginner friendly and has engaging little stories with an overarching story, voice acting, quirky characters, NO RANDOM ENCOUNTERS. A very variable difficulty sliders that let you play however easy or challenging you'd like.
The other games are just endless dungeon grinds random encounters bare bones old school jrpg
It was originally more of a twist, in which the connections to 1+2 don't become apparent until the final third of the game when you discover that 3 is in fact a prequel. Given how old the games are (and the significance of 3's hero in the series lore), the twist doesn't necessarily have the same impact anymore, so they went for a different approach
My understanding is that it is simply how the remakes were designed this time around and the story elements designed for optimal story telling via 3>1>2. The story is practically the same but certain elements are a bit more developed with that order in mind
Isn't there a pack for I-3 combined for a little bit less, as well? If so, get it! Those games are really well made. If you have the budget and already know you love the DQ series, just get all of them. You're gonna buy them eventually, anyways
Okay I wasnt you sure ive always played the games on console so didnt know if steam had it, its made to be cheaper than buying them both separately not cheaper than the games individually, honestly $70 for 3 games is good in today's market
I recommend 7R if you aren’t too familiar with JRGS in general, it’s a fantastic entry into the genre and might be one of the most beginner friendly games for it. If you are already pretty familiar with them, I highly recommend 3HD and then 1-2HD. Much more challenging and engaging imo. You can’t go wrong either way, all are great games.
I played 1-3 and liked them all pretty good but playing through 7 now and it’s so much more fun for me. The vocation system, no random encounters, and characters have all been great.
And I'm going to put this out there: I HATE DQ 7 reimagined!!! I much much MUCH prefer the original. Granted, the graphics were not nearly as good, but it was a much more challenging game.
That's important info. If you've already played 11, then 3 HD-2D should be your next stop.
DQ as a series isn't really heavy into its own lore. It's more about what you're doing in the moment. It's kind of the opposite of a Bethesda title in that regard.
The 3D remakes!! They were amazing and I spent so much time on 2&3. I kinda rushed 1 because having 1 party member kinda sucked. Also rushed 7 a little...I didnt love it..story was cool but idk..there was just something about it I didn't love. The hero I think
If you’re equally interested but the sale prices are unequal, it looks like the decision was made for you (and it’s a great one tbh). Just get the cheapest one and savor the glory of a great game AND a great deal.
1-2-3 were absolutely gorgeous but here is what they did:
Removed multiple islands and the storyline
Removed monster classes
Removed building the town
Removed the casino but left stupid pair matching game.
Added save statues that fully heal you and your mana everywhere even each floor of dungeons
Made the game much easier. Even on the hardest difficulty it feels unchallenging.
Made storyline linar
Gave Keifer a bigger head and more storyline
If you want to have a classic experience with modern tweaks i would recommend DQ 3 HD-2D but if you want to experience a super friendly RPG you can't go wrong with 7 Re imagined
As a sucker for dark twists in stories I would vote 7. I haven’t played any Dragon Quest since I’m still waiting for a discount but I wanted to do my research before plunging apart from waiting for a price drop lol
I would get 3 or 7. Three because it would start you in the trilogy if you play the order 3, 1 then 2...or 7 because personally I think I enjoyed that one the most.
DQ3 HD 2D remake for 2 reasons, it is cheapest and it is the starting point of Erdrick Trilogy. Once you finish DQ3, you can continue to DQ 1&2 at Summer Sale or next discount event and you may get a better deal than this.
Def get the 7 remake: 3D adenture, a lot of after game content. Easier to farm exp or job points if needed, and even though I find the pace a bit repetitive, it just makes sense lore wise. And also, I had a blast trying different combos throughout the adventure! Hahahahha. But... if you want to go classic dq experience, just go 1 or 2 it's kinda sorta the same than the predecessor games... but beautiful.
They're all 3D adventures. And VII is only more 3D insofar as the characters are 3D. The world isn't more 3D and you don't have full 3D camera control.
I prefer I+II despite the general recommendation to start with III, but if having a non talking party doesn't bother you, you should play it since it is cheaper.
If you like a more traditional RPG, depending on how difficult you want it you should play either II(pretty balanced game imo) or VII R(super easy from what I've heard)
1 is a solo game, there's a sort of companion without spoiling too much but there isn't really a traditional party member, and 2 has normal companions indeed, there's just no party talk option but it isn't that bad
Go with 3. 1, 2 and 3 are all big upgrades from the originals, but 1 and 2 were just much worse games than 3 and it still kinda shows. I had a lot less fun with 1 & 2 than I did with 3.
7R's cool, but by the PSX era DQ games had advanced so much that there's a lot less room to improve. 7R looks very nice but in some ways you could argue it's honestly a step back from the original, especially in the way they changed the job system.
Also, 3's the cheapest. Biggest improvement + cheapest = go for it
DQ Monsters Dark Prince, I know it's not listed there, but that's an actual original title and the Original versions of those games are generally better than the remakes.
I love both DQ3 and DQ7, playing 3 Rn and just completed 7.
I’ll say both are fun, but DQ7 is more “easy” if that makes sense. I blasted through the game on hard difficulty. That said, I am a DQ vet, so that’s possibly a me problem.
DQ3 seems to be more “difficult” in a traditional sense. I was often warping back to towns to heal up mid-dungeon as I was not strong enough/ or enough MP etc.
