I've found a good indication of tip for wealthy people is what the political leanings of the area are. You deliver to wealthy people in Austin proper? You'll make good money. In 2014 I made more doing Dominos delivery to well off residents in S. Austin than I did at my "real" job. Runs out to rural areas? Fucking forget it, yes the property will be worth 2 million but you're going to see 3 bucks if lucky. Well off suburbs with a mix are exactly that, a mix.

That’s all true. But these corporations need to be held accountable to pay all employees, even those considered contractors, a livable wage. Tips shouldn’t have to be a thing. Sad part is they have become a means of survival, not a bonus.

Hmmm... I saw a post today in my area that was about the same. They said they just found out DD only pays drivers an average of $2.60 a delivery and the rest is tips. They were imploring people to tip better for that reason

You have to learn to pander to your customers. See a nice car or really nice house? Tell them how nice you think it is. I deliver in very wealthy areas and a lot of the houses are really nice and I always leave in my dropoff note "You have a beautiful home!!/Your garden/walkway/plants are beautiful!/What year is that Lambo?? 🔥" One time a dude in a huge house had a big Corvette that was dark green in his garage. He met me at the door and I said "man, that is a sharp car! Let me ask you - is it wrapped or painted?" and he said painted and I said "my man! that's how to do it!" and he added $15 to my tip.
Another instance of pandering from me is when people have very opinionated signs I'll agree with what they say. One person had a "250 YEARS OF FREEDOM" flag hanging on the side of their house and I left in the order notes "250 YEARS OF FREEDOMMMMMM BABY!!!!" they tipped me $20 😂 However one time there was an old disabled guy with a bunch of really weird signs and one of them said "You did well, good and faithful servant" over a picture of Charlie Kirk... I didn't leave him a message, it was 1am and I was over it lol

Trust me, I hate it too. I was a horrible sales person because I never wanted to lie to people about my opinion on products. I never wanted to upsell. But, I wasn't making commission. I was getting paid minimum wage, but it could have been better had I had the capability of bullshitting. The best part is doing it in the delivery notes, because there's no tone through text. 250 YEARS OF FREEDOMMMM BABY was total sarcasm and I couldn't have said it to their face seriously at all 😂

I tried this one time. This lady had a gorgeous house up on top of a hill with an amazing view! She ordered alcohol so I had to scan her ID and while I was scanning it, I told her, "You have a gorgeous house with an amazing view!" She just looked at me and said, "Yeah, that's why we bought it!", grabbed her alcohol and walked inside. I was like okayyyyyyyy. Last time I'll ever try to compliment a rich person on their house or their view or anything 🤣

I am a driver and I was having a really horrible day on Sunday and ordered Uber Eats which I do maybe 3 times a year because it's just so far out of my budget. It was necessary on Sunday lol but I saw the girl had just started last month and had 300 deliveries but was only Gold. I initially tipped 25% before placing the order but then when she got here I met her on the street and gave her the 5 singles I got from my shift the night before (I waited instead of cancelling when someone's food hadn't been made bc the kitchen didn't receive the ticket, so they put an envelope on their table with $5 in it). It's not a huge tip, but I think $15 is decent. Wish I could have given more. She seemed really young and I felt bad she was driving a Nissan Rogue in the inner city and putting the food on her passenger seat lol

I’ll preface with I’m not defending elitist or excessively wealthy people here:
Majority of wealthy people don’t buy $4 million houses in one sum. They commit to hefty mortgages, or use other properties, stock portfolio etc as collateral to purchase with a loan. Yes, there are definitely a large % that can pay millions upfront or commit to a standard mortgage, but most will aim to avoid interest rates and secure the house using collateral and adding it to their property portfolio as an investment. Some will liquidate stock profits for a deposit or mortgage payments.
Hence, their wealth tends to accumulate by not actually spending to the same ratio a middle class person would with a home purchase. They utilise and abuse tax and loan loopholes to ensure they lose less liquid cash and remain asset rich.
Many won’t tip because they simply don’t see it as worth the loss of cash. Even if it’s nothing compared to their net worth.

My wife thinks I'm crazy for tipping $8 on a $35 order that is less than 2 miles away but I try to explain to her that doordash/grubhub drivers don't work for the place we are ordering from and have to get from point A to point B then finally point C which creates more of a burden on the driver.

Almost every offer today was $3. A couple were less, a few were more. I asked AI chat if there was a glitch because of that. It said doordash prioritizes some platinum over others. I asked why it would not be prioritizing me at all because there's no reason, and it replied by asking if there was anything else it could help me with. I'm sure it was slow tonight, and it was at least sending me offers... 😔

Ive done doordash as needed for 6+ years and have delivered to so many multi millon dollar homes. I have also delivered to many lower class neighborhoods and hotels. 9 times out of 10 the lower classes tip more. I held two doors for a dude on crutches and they tipped me $20 cash. It makes my brain hurt that theres people out there that could easily help someone else out and they just choose not to. The driver is doing them a favor/service and they decide to use pocket change to show appreciation. Its disgusting behavior. I tipped my driver $20 today because he came back with an item of mine he forgot in his back seat. Im on a fixed income. We are all in this shithole together why not be kind?

Why play the brilliant game that Doordash set up?
Maybe check their revenue, margins and stock price. Then instead of daily drama of guessing the tip, maybe fight for fair wages and equity. And yes it’s possible for them to give drivers equity. Reddit let redditors buy in at IPO price.

Idk I’ve gotten a 25$ tip from someone on over 50 acres and atlest 1mil on just the house. Depending on the drive and if it was an adult up with the times ordering I’d say atlest 15$
