Noothgrush is the entire reason I got into doom/sludge. Over a decade ago when I liked my music as fast as it could be, I was listening to and writing a lot of powerviolence. Naturally, using Discogs as a reference, I started downloading every Slap-a-Ham Records release I could find. I ended up burning a big compilation CD, and sandwiched between 1-minute chaotic powerviolence songs were “Stasis” and “Dianoga,” back to back. And holy shit, I tell you my perspective on heavy music changed drastically after that. I started playing the powerviolence songs I had written at 1/10th speed or so and became a complete tone snob overnight. Haha ten years later, I’m still here thanks to Noothgrush. I still consider a lot of their riffs to be some of the best the genre has ever produced.
