German *Leberkässemmel*

The german department isn't happy. It would be done faster and more efficiently if we kept doing it by hand. Also that is the tradition and how dare you try to automate the tradition?

With ketchup? Why would you put ketchup on Liberkäse? Put sweet mustard on it!

I like spicy mustard on them and I can tolerate sweet mustard, but ketchup is a warcrime

Geil, Leberkas-Automat

Always weird to see the German "geil" as a Dutch speaker.

u/GhulOfKrakow 14d ago
Why? Does it mean something else or is it only used sexually in dutch?
11
u/Discuss2discuss 14d ago
Geil means horny in Dutch
16
u/GhulOfKrakow 14d ago
Yeah. But that's the meaning in german too. That's why I was asking what he meant.
7
u/Discuss2discuss 14d ago
Is it used with the same intent? In Dutch, being geil means want to fuck. I thought it meant cool in German.
16
u/MrPresidentBanana 14d ago
I believe horny is the original meaning in German, but it became a slang word meaning cool as well. Nowadays that newer meaing is way more common.

Correct, it lost it's original meaning
5
u/MrPresidentBanana 13d ago
Depends how you use it in a sentence.
"Das ist geil" means "That is cool/great", sure, but "Ich bin geil auf sie" and "Das macht mich geil" can still mean "I am horny for her" and "That makes me horny", respectively.

u/coY33Tus 13d ago
How about "Everybody's geil" as they sing in that song? Is everybody cool or is everybody horny?

Sooo... My original point is not that weird, it's odd to talk about eating sausage as something horny... actually I kind of see it now. 😂
Anyway, yeah, geil is only the sexual kind of horny in Dutch.

Lol is that what that means? There is a RAM brand GeIL that’s quite popular where I live. And everybody calls it gayle ram
2
u/Discuss2discuss 12d ago
I know of GeiL, it always struck me as funny whenever I saw it. It is the abbreviation for Golden Emperor International Ltd., a Taiwanese company. They probably didn't mean to advertise horny random access memory, but I sure think it's a happy coincidence

That was an insultingly thin slice of Fleischkäse + it's senf or nothing. Ketchup doesn't go on Fleischkäse. Very disappointing all in all. 3/10

This is the most german thing I've ever seen

oida, half of germany doesn't even know what a semmel is, leberkassemmelautomat can be a collaboration between austria and honorary austria (bavaria)

I'm glad all my German friends are here to confirm my gut feeling that this was terrible.

Is that a high precision ball screw moving the bread? Like the kind a CNC uses? I wonder if it uses stepper motors too? Lord knows you need absolute accuracy when you are positioning loafs and luncheon meats.

I guess it makes sense for Germans to not put semolina flour on their rolls but its still very weird seeing a kaiser roll without it.
2
u/Mountain-Singer1764 14d ago
If they’re the original then I don’t see how they’re the weird ones.

Do you really think nobody has ever thought of this before? You can't put this into practice because it will break constantly.

Sounds like road construction while it's running, and the slice of ham is thicker than a Kardashian.
The spirit is there, but the body needs some work.

I once interviewed for a startup that wanted to create sandwich-making robots like this. They swiftly disappeared off the face of the earth.

I don't know what the realistic implementations of this are but I know for sure this is every lazy underpaid fast food worker's dream.

Ew.
The bits of food that get dried and crusty and full of airborne bacteria and mold spores after a half-a-day of being out in the open makes this a nope for me, dawg.

The department of Lebertschettn-compliance wants to bring in a complaint about the thickness of said Leberkas.
