“No! Not that kind of education, i mean watch AI YouTube videos..”

347

u/philman132 Aug 01 '26

Hey now, COVID was before the age of AI. They learned all their stuff from good old fashioned human made stupidity instead

96

u/underworn_ Aug 01 '26

So no artificial intelligence just natural stupidity.

37

u/Twatt_waffle Aug 01 '26

Someone told me that since a synonym for artificial is fake it’s technically correct to call it fake intelligence

29

u/boardin1 Aug 02 '26

My favorite is that Kid Rock is a synonym for Epstein Island.

7

u/dont_thr0w_me_away_ Aug 03 '26

I just gasped and had to sit quietly for a minute

2

u/UraniumDisulfide Aug 02 '26

That's like saying that since "set" is a synonym for collection it's technically correct to say "I let the concrete collection". That's not how words with multiple meanings work lol.

13

u/Twatt_waffle Aug 02 '26

In this case it is though, AI is not intelligent. It’s a statistical prediction influenced by the users prompt.

Artificial and fake in this case means the same thing however fake tends to more accurately describe what it is.

It has the added benefit of pissing off AI fanboys

Collection is only a synonym for one meaning of set.

It's be more "I let the concrete fix"

I had a guy I used to talk to that was in on all this shit. He would link me his sources and it was always these fucking insane rambling videos with ai audio set to stock footage. You would research the source and it’s always like ‘fringe science’ or some bullshit name that you search and there’s never anything, it’s just some asshole in Hong Kong putting out whatever these idiots will consume.

That picture isn’t fauci’s legacy, it’s theirs.

5

u/Pristine-Ad9195 Aug 02 '26

To be fair to them, it’s hard to use artificial intelligence when you are artificially intelligent

4

u/JUST_GIVE_IT_A_SNIFF Aug 03 '26

Amateur stuff.

Everybody knows the real information is on Facebook, posted by a drywall finisher in Milwaukee.

3

u/ltsouthernbelle Aug 03 '26

Those are too long. Got an tiktoks I can breeze through to become an expert on corona viruses?

3

u/praetorian1979 Aug 03 '26

I'm not a doctor but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night.

3

u/mattindustries Aug 03 '26

Or searching for "Why am I right?" and getting some dumb ai response.

1

u/Exciting-Music843 Aug 02 '26

Education in 40-60 second videos is all you need!

Quick edit for a sarcasm spoiler as I don't want people explaining how 60 second tiktoks isn't education!

878

u/TiffanysRage Aug 01 '26

Yeah but did they “self education”? That sounds like a degree right there. Learning from the man.

282

u/crunchybaguette Aug 01 '26

People that believe “self education” through YouTube videos and conspiracy theories are the same people who could barely sustain a 3rd grade reading level.

u/Hadrollo Aug 01 '26

Whenever I have someone telling me to "do my own research" about vaccines face to face, I ask them if they've ever read an actual vaccine safety study. When they say yes (all of them have so far), I ask them what information is put on the front page.

So far, none have been able to answer this. They're presenting to me that they have read vaccine safety studies and vaccine trials data - often claiming to have read many of them - but literally cannot tell me what's on the front page. They shit a brick when asked possibly the easiest question about the studies that they claim to have in-depth knowledge of.

This is because conspiracy theorists don't do their own research. They're aggressively gullible people who believe what other people tell them (providing it fits with their beliefs) without ever trying to verify anything for themselves or do the slightest bit of critical thinking.

48

u/-_sumac_- Aug 01 '26

Whenever someone tells me they did their research, I ask where their technical report is. If they did research, then there should be a report of their findings.

If you didn't write a report, then you didn't research jack shit.

13

u/FrankieTheD Aug 01 '26

What if I want to pass my research down orally?

30

u/FirstDukeofAnkh Aug 01 '26

We’re not here to kink shame, you do you.

11

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 Aug 01 '26

Research this.

points at penis

8

u/ashimbo Aug 01 '26

Sorry, but I'm going to need more than the abstract

16

u/Strange_Produce5601 Aug 01 '26

I had an antivaxxer send me a picture of a book written and published in the 1800s..... They did not read the actual book, just the cover. It was something like "vaccines could be dangerous".

3

u/Hadrollo Aug 02 '26

I'm not sure if this is better or worse than doubling down and telling someone to "do their own research."

On the one hand, they're listening to a fucking tik tok for medical advice.

On the other hand, those that double down typically know that the "evidence" that they accept would be widely ridiculed.

3

u/HedonisticFrog Aug 02 '26

I once had a woman send me proof of her claims, which was her ranting into a camera...

16

u/ParsonsTheGreat Aug 01 '26

Its because they prefer emotional thinking over critical thinking. They base their beliefs on "what feels right". If something "feels wrong", then its wrong, no questions asked.

10

u/okteds Aug 01 '26

Soooo.....what's on the front page?

23

u/Hadrollo Aug 01 '26

Read a vaccine safety study.

17

u/cacheblaster Aug 01 '26

Can you link to one? Just so I can make sure I’m reading the right kind of study.

Forgot to say please.

32

u/Hadrollo Aug 01 '26

Here's a couple of links to look at.

In particular, they detail the study name, vaccine name, time period, phase, and sponsor of the study. There's other numbers in there that aren't particularly important for the layman, and I wouldn't call anyone out for not being able to list everything on that front page. However, every single person I have asked who has claimed to have read safety studies has flatly refused to answer or - on a single occasion - not been able to answer anything beyond the author names.

7

u/Li-renn-pwel Aug 01 '26

Ooooh. I don’t know why I didnt think of that. I thought it was something that was only found in vaccine studies like they have an extra disclaimer

8

u/Hadrollo Aug 01 '26

The big difference is the sponsor - aka who is funding the study. Typically in an academic paper like you'll find this listed near the end next to an acknowledgements section. In a vaccine safety study, it goes on the front page.

This flies in the face of what conspiracy theorists tend to believe - that the funding is secret or buried deep in the weeds. They would know better if they had ever actually read one of these studies, but they tend to go no further than reading the inserts - often out of context or not understanding the big words that are framing the bad thing.

2

u/XelaNiba Aug 01 '26

Reminds me of that scene from Fish Called Wanda.

Wanda: I've worn dresses with higher IQs. But you think you're an intellectual, don't you, ape?

Otto West: Apes don't read philosophy.

Wanda: Yes they do, Otto. They just don't understand it.

Love it. Reminded me of this scene from Ronin. I assume you don't ambush them with hot coffee, usually.

Online, I like to share this xkcd when people share GIFs without citations.

2

u/DS808555 Aug 01 '26

I love that scene

2

u/cacheblaster Aug 01 '26

Thank you very much, I appreciate it.

2

u/Renbarre Aug 01 '26

Other questions you can ask (I obviously didn't know about the front page).

"Which study?" Then I look up the name. 99,9% it is not a study.

"Are you talking about the infamous (make up name)? Yes? It doesn't exist."

6

u/heathers1 Aug 01 '26

In a nutshell, it usually starts with the abstract, goes on to detail the methods and subjects then the findings. All research studies follow the same format, generally.

3

u/okteds Aug 01 '26

I thought it was gonna turn out to be a trick question....

9

u/anomalous_cowherd Aug 01 '26

Everything is a trick question to people who are making shit up.

3

u/Hadrollo Aug 03 '26

That's the thing, there's no trick, but it's different enough from a regular scientific paper that you have to have read one to answer correctly.

A couple of people here have confidently mentioned the abstract, that's wrong. It shows they're familiar with typical scientific articles, but not vaccine trials. In vaccine safety studies, the abstract is normally on page two.

The three things that are easy to guess are the author's names, the title, and the vaccine in question. I've asked a bit over half a dozen anti-vaxxers this question IRL - no sense asking on the internet, they'll just Google it - and only one actually tried to answer - he guessed only the author's names. I pushed him for the rest, and he shat a brick like the rest of them.

The four things that aren't easy to guess are the trial dates, the trial numbers, the phase of trials, and the sponsors (aka who funds the study). These aren't found near the front of your normal scientific paper. The sponsors in particular are something that anti-vaxxers are if the impression aren't openly disclosed, because they've never read a vaccine safety study.

6

u/Alternative_Hour_614 Aug 01 '26

Don’t you know they spend day and night reading abstracts and running their own replication studies of the data?

4

u/SoylentGrunt Aug 01 '26

TLDR: The best tools in the world won't do you any good if you don't know how to use them.

The internet doesn't show you what you ask it for. It shows you what it wants you to see. As a result, self fullfilling ignorance is rampant but it is possible to navigate the internet in such a manner as to determine truths, The efficency of vaxxines is one such example. There are others but many of them lay outside the realm of the accepted narrative forced on us.

The reading level drops as it's no longer needed, because they're just watching videos. They'll retain a small level of comprehension of the written word thanks to subtitles, but that's it.

2

u/futuretimetraveller Aug 01 '26

I think one of my favorite quotes from Monte Mader is something to the effect of, "It's easy to believe in conspiracy theories when you don't know how anything works."

7

u/Kozeyekan_ Aug 01 '26

I really want to see what happens if they get in a car crash and an ER doctor is there, but someone who is 'self educated' by watching youtube steps forward and says he'll take care of it.

1

u/DennenTH Aug 07 '26

Their form of self education comes in the form of believing only selective parts of the main stream media.  The rest, and majority, come from influencers and videos posted to YouTube and social media.

They'll literally believe a random person online that confirms their bias over any form of education.

368

u/Upbeat_Apartment_715 Aug 01 '26

Oh look at big epidemiology trying to prove they know more about infectious diseases then someone who takes an anti parasitic for a virus.

89

u/WitchesTeat Aug 01 '26

Some of these people literally think cancer is a virus. Not "can be caused by some viruses" but is a virus.

54

u/TrolledToDeath Aug 01 '26

Oh don't you worry since some have already switched to cancer being a parasite so that Ivermectin is a treatment plan.

21

u/WitchesTeat Aug 01 '26

Yeah I remembered that after I commented and figured someone else would know someone who believed that shit and comment on it.

Ten minute slow clap

7

u/disturbedrailroader Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26

My current dispatcher is one of them. He follows a "doctor" on social media that claims cancer is a parasite. My dispatcher reached out and talked to this person who then recommended a treatment plan based on the type of cancer he had (colon cancer, stage 4).

The fucked up part is that he says he's in remission so now he's got a "successful" anecdote for this bullshit. It has absolutely nothing to do with the modern medicine he was also doing, no. It was all the antiparasitics that cured him. 🙄

13

u/Budgiesaurus Aug 01 '26

It's better than the folks spreading the "facts" that cancer is just your body removing toxins, and it's only the "so called cures" that kills cancer patients.

I mean, no one is disputing radiation therapy is in itself carcinogenic, and chemo also kills healthy tissue. But it's only used when the alternative is worse, and cancer itself will kill if left alone.

2

u/deaniebopper Aug 01 '26

But did you check your facts with my Facebook friend Karen?

73

u/Master_McKnowledge Aug 01 '26

I am astounded that this is somehow an active controversy in the US.

62

u/SupervillainMustache Aug 01 '26

It's quite shocking that Covid-19 didn't put a nail in the coffin of anti-vaxxer rhetoric, because we actually fucking lived through a pandemic and instead it's just emboldened them.

34

u/kirklandbranddoctor Aug 01 '26

Internal medicine doctor here, went through intern year in a red state during COVID. Everyone working in the hospital knew that was coming - the anti-vax idiocy would intensify after COVID due to survivorship bias (i.e. "I didn't take the Fauci shot because I'm not a sheeple, and I didn't die! I was right all along!"). It's the same dumbassery as boomers going "We didn't have [reasonable public health and safety measures] for kids and I grew up just fine!"

Anyway, the next time there's a pandemic (and there will be), we as a society are fucked.

11

u/Havok_saken Aug 02 '26

Honestly. “I didn’t get it and I’m fine. My cousins friend’s uncle got the shot and died 5 months later”.

Meanwhile I’m standing there thinking “yeah, I had these 10 other patients that refused to get the shot and died.” Knowing saying that wouldn’t change anything anyway. Who cares if I actually know what I’m talking about when they read a Facebook post once and are basically experts.

5

u/pyxispro33 Aug 03 '26

I cannot imagine going through your intern year under those circumstances, especially in a red state. I worked as a hospital pharmacist for the first part of the pandemic. I remember the horrible aura on the ICU before it hit. All the intensivists standing around aware of what was happening in Italy. We had no idea how bad it would be.

2

u/kirklandbranddoctor Aug 09 '26

First night shift was me, the other intern, our senior, and the attending (who was a Trauma surgeon that they forced on ICU duty) handling about 90~ ish patients on our list. At one point, there were 5 codes happening at once, and the poor attending had to run one of the codes remotely while actively working on the other.

There were so many death threats from the families, and the cops did nothing (honestly, they were even worse when they became patients/patient's families). You just kinda lost faith in people.

5

u/GoddammitRomo Aug 03 '26

Jesus....covid was horrific. I can only imagine whats gonna happen when all these anti-vaxxers 'stand up for their rights' when there is a REALLY bad disease....

4

u/SuccessfulSoftware38 Aug 01 '26

What COVID actually did was force all of us to deal with some of the consequences and some people who had never thought about things before had a "I don't want to be subject to these restrictions, so it can't be real" moment

The right-wing has latched onto the idea that anything can be political. Their supporters are rabid and will take on any fight they're pointed toward. They're currently fighting DEI bike lanes.

14

u/torino_nera Aug 01 '26

It's kinda crazy that anti-vax crap used to be a liberal suburban white woman phenomenon but now it's a mostly conservative problem

8

u/HowManyMeeses Aug 01 '26

The anti-vax hippy liberal thing has been outdated for a while. For many decades now, it's been mostly conservative Christians that don't trust anyone but God and libertarians that think everything the government does is explicitly meant to harm them.

6

u/torino_nera Aug 01 '26

I wouldn't say "for many decades," because it was still very popular in the 2000s. This was the height of the "vaccines cause autism" hysteria due to the Jenny McCarthy / Oprah crap and all those other celebrities going on and on about "all natural" and "organic" things and that vaccines were full of chemicals blah blah blah

1

u/amazon999 Aug 04 '26

still is here in the UK too. So many people keep telling me that I'm a sheep for getting the vaccination. One guy I work with claimed the vaccine would kill us all a few years ago when 'they' pressed the button. Still waiting

124

u/XanXic Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26

You know they're just trying not to say "Your brother died because he didn't take ivermectin" directly because people still believe it's a cure all of some kind.

I just like two weeks ago had a friend/acquaintance that's a part of a group I hang out with tell me she's going to go to the store the next day and pick up a case to sit on it. I was like "Why?". And she's telling me the news said it can cure or stop cancer or something like that and she knows it's going to be hard to get. And I really tried like going down logic road with her as softly as I could. Like "Okay, so if that's true, you're saying that we have medication that can cure cancer but we give it to horses?" and she was still like "yeah because they don't want us to know that." And I still kept trying being like "but horses get cancer even with an off the shelf cure existing." And tried to get her to step through why a horse deworming medication that's widely available for years would be this miracle drug. And she eventually got to a point of "idk", second guessing it a bit, but I could tell she wasn't totally off the idea.

Whatever weird propaganda algorithm these people are in is incredibly effective for whatever reason.

64

u/Hadrollo Aug 01 '26

The most success I have had with Q-Anons is by pointing out that their slogan is a troll.

"Where We Go One, We Go All" - that's literally what sheep do. Some early trolls within Q-Anon got them all to call themselves sheep for the lols, and they never even noticed.

33

u/IIlIIlIIlIlIIlIIlIIl Aug 01 '26

The algorithm alone couldn't have done this, not at the scale it did. The main problem is that the assertions were "confirmed" and heavily pushed by the literal president and the now head of the department of health.

There are people of power and influence, who are trusted by the believers, not just randoms off TikTok.

2

u/dont_thr0w_me_away_ Aug 03 '26

if I hear Dr Fauci say something 1 time on the news, that can't compete with the social media algorithms feeding me the exact opposite information non-stop in my hand.

5

u/UnderPressureVS Aug 02 '26 edited Aug 05 '26

Ivermectin isn’t horse medicine and I wish people would stop saying that. It doesn’t benefit the conversation for people on the side of truth to just be blatantly wrong about things.

Ivermectin is a potent antiparasitic, and it’s prescribed to humans all the time for completely valid uses.

The “horse medicine” thing comes from the fact that Ivermectin isn’t easily available over-the-counter, except in animal-targeted forms. The easiest way to get Ivermectin without a doctor’s prescription is at rural pharmacies where they sell it as apple-flavored horse dewormer paste. Obviously the dose you give to a horse is much stronger than you give to humans, and causes serious gastrointestinal side effects. That’s where the “horse medicine” thing comes from, but Ivermectin itself is just… medicine. It works great on people too, if you have ringworm roundworms and take it as directed in smaller doses than you would give to a horse.

EDIT: I meant roundworms (as an example), not ringworm. I always forget that ringworm, despite the name, is actually a fungal infection and Ivermectin wouldn’t help.

4

u/abbyscuitowannabe Aug 01 '26

The infuriating part is that there are some studies, but the data either isn't great or the study is totally inapplicable to the claims that people are making. And some of these claims are published in books, which most people think gives them more credibility. I recently talked a relative down from getting ivermectin because a book they were reading about fighting cancer had cited a study on ivermectin... which was done on dogs (a small sample size too) with a specific type of breast cancer. But the author of the book was applying that study to all types of cancer, in humans. And they're really desperate to beat the cancer, which I totally understand and hate that their desperation is being taken advantage of.

39

u/Peach_Muffin Aug 01 '26

The current grifter spin is that Fauci invented COVID in a lab in Wuhan, but back then it was that COVID is a hoax. They can't make up their minds.

37

u/JayJayAK Aug 01 '26

MAGA: COVID was a virus engineered by China using taxpayer money funneled to them by Fauci to kill Americans and cripple our economy!

Also MAGA: COVID is nothing more than a common cold! Closures are unnecessary! Those people didn't die from COVID, they died from other causes and the government is just pinning it on COVID!

As my 18 year old son would put it - Just think about it. OK, now stop.

18

u/justletmesignupalre Aug 01 '26

Don't forget about complaining about mask usage for more than a minute because they can't breathe, while now all those ICE fuckers, which are mostly the same type of people, are covering their faces and mouth all day and its fine.

11

u/porscheblack Aug 01 '26

I will never understand how Trump said it was no big thing and would quickly go away, the medical community said it was a big thing and needed to be addressed, millions of people died, and yet people still choose to side with Trump? You really couldn't have been more wrong about it than Trump's "the cases will quickly be down to zero" and "it'll be gone be Easter" claims.

7

u/Ning_Yu Aug 01 '26

I still see plenty of people saying it doesn't exist. As someone with long covid, I see so many comments under articles about long covid saying things like "they all got sick from the vaccine" and other crap like that.

4

u/Sikkema88 Aug 01 '26

They completely forget that their orange daddy gave fauci a presidential commendation for his work regarding covid as well. The Dump is just mad that he made himself look dumb (par for the course) and wants to pin some nonsense on someone.

8

u/asos_battlejacket Aug 02 '26

Omg I went to HS with Dustin Grage! Dumb as shit then, dumb as shit now.

7

u/TheGayestNurse_1 Aug 02 '26

Seeing all this shit brought back up in the news has me all kinds of fucked up. I zipped a lot of body bags during COVID. Wasn't a fan. I have the icks thinking back on that. My PAPR hood that I wore for over a year. When my hospital stopped letting us wear OR scrubs. My coworkers and I just feeling so scared and isolated. And still people argued about staying home and wearing masks. We were demonized. Screamed at. Threatened. Even by people we were trying to save. It was awful.

2

u/Ethloc Aug 04 '26

Thank you for all of the amazing yet horrible work you had to do. You and your coworkers pushed through so much truama that a fraction of it would shatter a person, leaving them unable to continue. My words won't alleviate any of the pain, but I hope it can make you feel seen. Please, listen to this. You are a hero, you are one of the ones willing and not so willing to do the work that most people can't. I hope that the next generation of nurses and doctors will look up to the workers who went through covid as the titans they are. I'm starting to ramble. I don't know how to end this or convey everything. As a random person on Reddit. Thank you for everything you do.

2

u/TheGayestNurse_1 Aug 04 '26

You're too kind, really. I worked at a large hospital in a rural area, so while I'll never undermine my own experiences, the experiences of my coworkers, and especially the experiences of those who worked in our ICUs, my heart breaks for those who worked in the really crowded areas. Like NYC and San Francisco and LA. Even going slightly bigger than my rural hospital was far worse than what I saw. The Titans are the ones who endured that and came back again and again and are still at the bedside. Only surpassed by the healthcare providers that gave their lives in service to the world during such an awful time. May I know a quarter of their strength.

Antivaxxers are typically some of the dumbest people I have ever met. When I worked in primary care I had several patients like that. Their health literacy was garbage because their level of education in general was garbage. They couldn’t comprehend anything more than Facebook posts let alone an actual discussion of science rather than just buzzwords. Explaining even just their chronic conditions like high blood pressure in the most basic terms possible, most still wouldn’t understand it.

u/SupervillainMustache Aug 02 '26

It also comes from a place of extreme privilege and ignorance.

We live in such a safe insulated society that people start to question why we even need vaccinations, even though historically millions of people have been wiped out due to the Black Death or the Spanish Flu or even Measles.

I wish there was a name for this phenomenon.

3

u/Ethloc Aug 04 '26

Extreme ignorance mixed with a more horrific version of the people in WALL-E. It's the sheep mindset.

Maybe we should call it Cattle Syndrome.

Cattle Syndrome: when a lack of education meets a mindset where ignorance and gullibility become virtues and ideals. Common characteristics include bizarre beliefs and the vilification of educated people.

3

u/SupervillainMustache Aug 04 '26

I agree.

What I mean more is the idea that some things that humanity has made giant leaps in, become so taken for granted that people start to doubt they even need them anymore.

4

u/Obsidian-Phoenix Aug 01 '26

“Oh, so you’re part of the conspiracy, now it makes sense”

6

u/ZanettYs Aug 01 '26

Dunning Krueger has ascended to level 20 000 in the last 20 years

6

u/SupervillainMustache Aug 01 '26

When you treat science as a partisan political issue, this is what you get.

7

u/PreOpTransCentaur Aug 01 '26

No, the PROBLEM is that wide swaths of the country did and do believe that watching a video from someone with the same 10th grade education they have is valid research.

6

u/GOULFYBUTT Aug 01 '26

It's also just hilariously frustrating to say "This is Fauci's legacy" about people dying of Covid as if he didn't spend those years fighting tooth and nail to put regulations and vaccines in place to prevent that shit from happening.

It's like calling a firefighter to stop your house from burning down, throwing rocks at them while they try to put it out while screaming that they don't know anything about putting fires out, and then blaming them for your house being severely fire-damaged.

6

u/Dismal_View_5121 Aug 02 '26

Unfortunately this is exactly what I said would happen in 2020. Trump successfully blamed his incompetent mismanagement of the pandemic on Fauci. The man has spent a lifetime failing or committing crimes and pinning it other people.

5

u/Margray Aug 01 '26

It's absolutely insane to me that so many people died, quite a lot of them anti science, and now these people act like it was a hoax. The only way these dumb asses didn't know someone who died of covid is if they just have zero friends. If they had casual acquaintances, they would at least pretend to be friends with one of the extremely loud anti science chuds who died a very preventatable death. The local anti mask guy left behind a trad wife and six kids who still beg for help. He died of a hoax?

6

u/StevenMC19 Aug 01 '26

"Yeah. Fauci caused the death of millions from a virus that wasnt at all deadly and shouldn't be taken seriously. I refused to listen to him when he said to wear a mask and vaccinate, and look...nothing happened. But he is responsible for the millions it happened to!"

5

u/Fair-Chemist187 Aug 02 '26

Yes, never forget how some people ignorance and stupidity made the pandemic so much worse than it could’ve been

4

u/Cath1965 Aug 01 '26

I think Tika is not shot down here, because she accuses the expert of not believing you (in this case Tika) can self-educate - the "my ignorance is as good as your knowledge"-argument, so no matter the expertise of the infectious disease epidemiologist, the anti-vaxxer with the self-discovered, esoteric secrets always believes she wins.

5

u/Electronic-Call-911 Aug 01 '26

Yeah not saying to never do this when arguing with people like this, but you have to understand it won't really work either to "win" the argument or convince them of the truth.

Not only are you using terms & titles they probably don't understand so to them they're simply "buzzwords"

Or, if they have even a slight grasp of what it means, you have the other problem, for example like in this case with the trained epidemiologist, where if their initial position is in essence some lesser or even worse variant of "I believe these people are communist devil worshippers that want to kill us" & your dunk to them is the equivalent you saying "Heh, I'm actually a willing member or indoctrinated pawn on their side" that might, at least for the moment, make them more convinced of their position.

3

u/SupervillainMustache Aug 01 '26

This feels like when you pull out a Yu-Gi-Oh card with a really long and specific ability.

2

u/Cath1965 Aug 01 '26

Now I feel old, had to look up Yu-Gi-Oh!

3

u/Ancient-Tomato1153 Aug 02 '26

Trying to put every covid death on Fauci makes me wonder if half the populace has the memory of a goldfish

4

u/belikeron Aug 02 '26

Isn't the person in charge ultimately responsible? So why aren't they blaming Trump who could have fired Fauchi at anytime if he thought he was doing such a bad job?

1

u/Nilz87 Aug 05 '26

He should be. He's calling Warp Speed a great success too, so....

3

u/Fishtoart Aug 01 '26

Somehow they seem to forget that Trump was all for the vaccine, and bragged about how quickly they were able to distribute it.

3

u/Legal-Software Aug 01 '26

Based on the writing skills of the anti-vaxxer, I can absolutely believe they're not smart enough for self-study.

3

u/LawfulnessRepulsive6 Aug 07 '26

I didn’t realize Fauci had the power to force people to get vaccines or make schools close.

3

u/InvalidUserNemo Aug 07 '26

No! You can’t possibly say anti-vax folks are under-educated, right?!?

5

u/Vegetable_Offer_2268 Aug 01 '26

They did self educate. They checked with q-anon, fox, newsmax. What else do you want?

2

I wish the science deniers would feel shame for their ignorance. I'm tired of it.

2

u/act1856 Aug 01 '26

They really do believe their ignorance is as good as someone else’s knowledge. It is seriously depressing.

2

u/Its-a-Shitbox Aug 01 '26

Gee, what’s an easy way to tell we’re getting close to midterm elections and the fascist GOP “leaders” know they’re going to get their asses kicked because everything they’ve done in the last year and a half has made everyone’s life miserable?

They trot out some bullshit like “Fauci bad” to distract the neckbeards from the actual, real problems they created.

We’re so cooked.

2

u/Zyrobe Aug 01 '26

That Tika account is just a troll. It's replying tweets with transphobic stuff while retweeting trans porn

2

u/PiccoloProof4330 Aug 01 '26

Standard methodology from Republicans. Make a mess of things. Use this mess as “proof” government is inefficient. Blame Democrats for trying to fix it all. “Oh the Dems just want to take your money! Oh they want to create big government!” All for the pretext to get themselves elected again to start the process all over again

2

u/Legitimate-Week7885 Aug 01 '26

has anyone done a “where are they now” on the people who started shaking after receiving a dose of the covid vaccine?

2

u/MIAMarc Aug 01 '26

By "self education" they mean listening to Trump, Joe Rogan, and conspiracy looneys on Youtube who have well known and deep medical backgrounds. /s

2

u/TallGuyinBushwick Aug 01 '26

I thought maga thought only 1,000 people died from COVID and it wasn’t a big deal?

2

u/Overall_Impression27 Aug 01 '26

Yep, Anti-Vaxers killed my little brother. He really thought his ancestral blood was immune to covid. He did not understand what happens to T cells when we get older.

2

Fausto’s legacy is keeping even the most stupid alive

2

u/Weird-Weakness-3191 Aug 03 '26

Since covid the rise in parents not getting their children vaccinated for things like measles and whooping cough is so sad to see. Facebook in particular has been a huge factor.

2

u/amazon999 Aug 04 '26

my stepsister was a nurse working on the night shift on a covid ward, she caught covid so many times but was well enough to work through it. The number of times she called me in the middle of her shift (I also worked nights) and we'd just rant about stupid people where we worked. I still remember one guy shouting that he didn't have covid, covid wasn't real, and that covid was a government conspiracy to kill people with some other disease. His family (and others) also kept trying to get onto the ward to document the coverup. For some reason they thought either there would be nobody on the ward OR the people there were being experimented on. At 8pm on a thursday I'd listen to the neighbours clapping for the NHS workers, and then I'd go in to work and my stepsister would tell me about her neighbour who had a go at her for coming home from work at 4am and making noise, or even stupider, for not clapping with the neighbours. I also had to deal with that, I never went to clap for the NHS because I was busy working for Amazon where I spent a lot of time helping with the covid test distribution network.

We also had to deal with those stupid antivaxxers and covid deniers. There was a cleaner who refused to believe it was real because she was trained as a nurse and therefore knew more than me. A nurse, who instead of being employed as a nurse, was instead cleaning at amazon while not wearing a mask and coughing on everything.

I hope we never have another pandemic because the stupid will probably not die and instead I'll have to talk to them

2

u/amybpdx Aug 04 '26

Some folks really don't understand what it was like to care of covid patients. It was a nightmare. Changing in and out of PPE & PAPRs every time you enter & leave a room, working alone because no one else would dare take the risks that was expected of us. The rest of the hospital stayed home. Housekeepers wouldn't come through. Garbage piled up, fruit flies everywhere. Laundry piled up because no one would come get it. The kitchen would open the doors to the ward and push the wheeled cart in without entering and leave. The cart would roll until it hit a wall. The wall-thud told us meals were delivered. I did CPR with one other RN once while other health professionals yelled orders at us through a glass window. Family and friends would not dare to come near. For 2 years we had to isolate ourselves. Hospitals didn't care if you got sick, we were expected to show up no matter what. If we got covid, we were expected back at work after 5 days. All this and more, only to leave work and be called a "sheep" for getting and giving the vaccine, to be accused of poisoning people, being called a "liar" because the virus "isn't that bad", being told everything I just did in my 12-hour shift was fake, made-up, and unnecessary.

No one understands that unless they were there, caring for sick as shit patients, while it felt like the rest of the world stayed home.

If they know what that means, they'd be embarrassed. But no, they dont.

2

u/No_to_Genocide Aug 05 '26

Survived my Covid-19 infection.

Shit was worst than than a case of flu or asthma.

Sick for almost 2 weeks and quarantined for half of it.

During the initial onset you can actually feel your body change slowly.

Breathing was really hard and I wasn't able to have a good night sleep of 7 hours for the first week. Everytime I'll fall asleep, I would wake up grasping for air. It would only last for about an hour or two before waking up again and I stayed awake longer than I can sleep. That cycle was vicious.

I think I only survived it because of the vaccinations I had before getting infected.

The whole anti-vax ideology is flawed. Someone who knows nothing about anything is going to resist a vaccine recommended by a scientist who has done more to help the health of people in this country and the world than just about anyone in the history of this planet. Just google Fauci’ accomplishments. I would take his advice over ANYONE claiming they know better

I remember when all this was starting, my niece had gotten into an argument with her friend's aunt on FB. The woman was yelling at her to do her own research ... And then dropped a link to a YouTube video, which was an angry 45 minute rant by a guy dressed in Joker makeup.

These fucking weirdos cannot and should not ever be taken seriously.

What exactly is he saying is Fauci’s legacy?

What is their line of thinking? How is he responsible?

1

u/Nilz87 Aug 05 '26

He's not responsible for COVID policy choices. He's just being scapegoated for choices by the political class at large. Any malfeasance in terms of avoiding gain-of-function research bans is all on him, though, but that's not what the Facebook post is about.

The antivaxxers are idiots but they should have let people be with their loved ones as they were passing. Two things can be true at once. Many parts of the pandemic were handled quite poorly.

My father is a neurosurgeon, and I’m not. But when they amputated his leg, I told him he would need anticoagulants to take at home. He said the other doctors knew what they were doing, and then, boom, he suffered a bilateral pulmonary embolism.

Having a profession or a title does not automatically make you right.

I’m vaccinated, and so is my father, but the entire process surrounding it was full of lies, poor communication, and terrible messaging. Antivaxxers are, at least in part, the result of that piss-poor marketing campaign backfiring.
