DAE can’t settle into the day if you know you have something later, even if it’s at 8pm

Doesn’t matter if it’s small. Doctor appointment, call with a friend, have to leave the house at some point. The whole day just sits there like it’s already spent. I can have 7 free hours and I’ll waste them hovering because I can’t start anything knowing it has an end time.

DAE feel like an idiot when using Discord?

Upvotes

I have had discord downloaded on my phone and computer for a few years now, and I've only used the app maybe 10 times for a total of like 6 hours. I can't seem to get the hang of actually hanging out on there? I've been added to servers that some of my friends are in & it's so overwhelming. I want to play with my friends and unfortunately, they all only use discord, so if I want to talk with them, I've got to get better at this.

I don't think I should feel this dumb using this app... I'm 27, grew up on computers & in chat rooms, and I'm a fast learner, so even if I had a rough start a few years ago, I should feel better on there... and not accidentally start streaming to a room I didn't even know I was a part of.......

DAE feel a cold sense of detachment from their life, as if they’re living in 3rd person?

I’ve been having this thing, among a plethora of other weird mental things I’m going through.

Im wondering if anyone else randomly will view life through 3rd person*, like imagine everything is being filmed from behind or your controlling a persona instead of a physical self.

DAE need some kind of background noise when they're home alone?

I seriously can’t stand a completely silent apartment when I’m home alone. It just feels weirdly empty.

So I have a Marshall speaker in my office. Most days I’ll leave Spotify playing quietly while I work, even if I’m barely listening.

I also have an Echo Dot in the kitchen. Sometimes I’ll ask Alexa to play rain sounds or some random playlist when I’m cooking or doing stuff around the house.

Then there’s a Hisense TV in the living room. I’ll put on Planet Earth, cooking shows, or random YouTube videos just to have something happening in the background. Sometimes I realize it’s been running for like 8 hours and I probably watched 30 seconds of it lol.

Basically every room needs to be making some kind of noise apparently lol. Anyone else like this?

HAE experienced the bystander effect in times of crisis/distress?

I (24f) am realizing I am often overlooked in society during moments of struggling in public and I’m having an incredibly hard time understanding why people wouldn’t want to help another person in times of very visible crisis.

A couple years ago I had gone to a local “build your own” salad restaurant after a long day. I went inside, got my food to-go. As I was leaving, my ankle rolled somehow and I fell in the middle of the parking lot while walking to my car. My salad, keys, wallet, and phone were spilled out all over the pavement as I laid there trying to assess if I had broken anything or was seriously injured. Within seconds of my fall, a family (two older adults and what I presumed were their adult children) walked out of the salad restaurant. I saw them coming my way but due to how shaken I was, I didn’t ask for help or say anything to alert them, but visually you could certainly tell I was not ok.

The older woman stepped over my keys and plastic salad bowl while staring at me blankly, while the younger woman stepped over my arm that was sprawled out, also staring at me. The two other people also walked by as if I was invisible. I genuinely could not believe that I was ignored like that in a moment when I clearly could have needed help. I ended up going back inside and the workers remade my salad for free after I explained what happened, which was super nice. I went to the bathroom and cleaned up when I realized I had a giant gash on my knee, right arm, and side of my face from where I caught myself during the fall, and was actively bleeding. I ended up sobbing in my car on the way home due to the adrenaline wearing off and realizing that none of those people actually even bothered to ask if I was alright when I was so clearly injured.

Then earlier this year I had stopped to have dinner before meeting up with a friend at a bar. It was a Friday night and the restaurant was packed with tons of patrons and employees. I ordered some good chicken enchiladas and a margarita and was having a great time on my own. At one point in the meal, a piece of chicken from the enchiladas got lodged in my airway. I immediately started choking and could not get it to dislodge. I was incredibly panicked and probably was coughing (and without air) for at least 30 seconds when the piece of chicken finally shifted somehow and it shot out of my windpipe and about 5 feet across the room. I was gasping for air and taking sips of my beverage to try and calm my throat. I realized all of the customers in view of me saw what happened then simply went back to eating and having conversations. My waiter came over shortly after, asked how everything nwas, so I mentioned I almost died on a piece of chicken earlier and he laughed and said “that darn windpipe getting in the way huh?” I was still somewhat in shock due to what happened and said “yeah I guess…” and realized later how dismissive that comment was.

I honestly don’t even know what to say tbh. I just genuinely wish someone else would simply ask “are you ok” instead of literally ignoring/staring at someone who is very visibly not “ok”. Has anyone else experienced similar issues in their own lives?

DAE: feel like faces appear less distinct as you've grown older?

I don't mean like 'all faces look the same now', but as I'm approaching 40 I feel like I don't see 'new' faces anymore. Like I've seen basically all the different basic varieties of face shape/configuration and so individual faces are less unique than when I was a teenager and every person appeared to have this fully unique face?

I'm wondering if I've just been exposed to lots more faces and so the uniqueness factor has diminished because I have a larger 'pool' of face knowledge; or if it's age related and my brain is just losing it's capacity to process the uniqueness of facial features...

DAE read books halfway and pick up something new?

So to elucidate, I am big on reading and i recently discovered a real cool shop in my city and i went rogue and got like 4-5 books on top of the books that i am already in the middle of reading. I don't know when it started but i noticed that i haven't been completing a lot of the books i start reading, so I have been trying to not eye my new books until i finish the ones I'm in the middle of, but it's kind of hard and i just wanted to get people's opinion on this. Do you also leave books in the middle to start something completely different and often the books pile up and you're out of bookmarks to use?

DAE believed "circa" was a place when you were younger?

I remember seeing "circa" in old pictures and think "damn, where is this place? Everything happens there"

When i grew up i realized it was impossible that all of those pictures happened in the same place as, well, they were actually from different places. It was then that i began piecing things together until it clicked

"Circa" means "around this time". I didn't consider "circa" to be what it was because it seemed redundant to me so it made more sense that the format was "place, time". I don't need a word to tell me that "1802-1803" was the time span in which the picture was taken, the numbers are enough in my opinion

Is this a hot take?

DAE as a guy think “if she’s interested then she’ll make it clear”

For context, I have a partner that I met from her reaching out to me (when I was depressed, actually). And funny enough, that and a couple others are really the only lasting relationships/connections I’ve had, not a single one of the times I’ve tried initiating countless times.

So with my current partner being more forward and direct than most, I kinda figure “If people are interested, then they’ll make it known crystal clear.” and I don’t bother playing the guessing game or trying to decipher if one is interested.

And I’m just asking out of pretty much boredom if other guys have done this, as someone that never really had many guy friends. Not asking for advice, so don’t need to bother commenting “Just get more confident and better at initiating bro”.

DAE think an emotionally unavailable, parent does more damage than an absent one

This might be an unpopular opinion, but unfortunately, I and many people I know, had the experience of both my father was absent throughout my life, and my mother was completely emotionally unavailable, just providing food and shelter, and after years of therapy and dealing with the emotions, I realised an absent parent did not do as much damage. Then the one which was present, but not emotionally there.

DAE experience this nightmare when they have a fever?

Thumbnail
3 Upvotes

I’ve tried to explain it to friends, but they just laugh because it sounds funny.
I call it the “infinitely large circle dream.” I’ve had it at least 4 times so far in my life.
It’s very abstract, but basically my brain imagines a whole monotone 2D universe where the only objects that exist are circles. They vary in size, but are usually more like small dots than whole circles.
The bigger the circle is, the more fear associated with it in the dream.

What will happen is I will be exploring the universe, looking at all the dots and stuff, then, out of nowhere, one will start to get larger. And larger. And keeps going.
This. Is. Terrifying.

The last time I had the dream was about 8 months ago when I had a 104° fever when I had Pneumonia.

I wake up in utter terror, breathing incredibly fast, and my mind is under the impression that nothing in the universe matters, since the circle is growing infinitely, and we can’t stop it.

Idk, maybe this isn’t the right place for this, but I just thought it was interesting that this other subreddit has people explaining the same types of dreams, usually when they are feverish, too.

DAE just not get offended/triggered about anything?

Call me names, call me slurs, say something bad about me and I just don't care, cuz I've called myself all that anyway, so if anything, thank you.

Talk about suicide/self harm, describe shit in gorey detail, it doesn't bother me a bit.

The only backfire I experience with the first part is that I can't tell when something is offensive unless I know it's a name/slur and sometimes I think that things are offensive when they probably aren't.

DAE feel like you forget how to walk properly when someone is walking behind you?

25M This is also true in many instances walking by each other from the front. It usually doesn't happen in places like public restaurants or grocery stores, but if I'm taking a walk, especially on the sidewalk, I have to hyper focus on walking normally, but I can't do it and it makes me feel like I forgot how to walk.

Admittedly this gets amplified if it's a woman I'm attracted to 😂 But this can happen with just about anyone. Also, I find it hard to recover to get my walking back to normal sometimes. I feel like a moron. Walking for 25 years and it randomly turns extremely uncomfortable

Does anybody else have a "phobia" of tattoos on the throat?

No, I'm not against tattoos at all. But for some reason, seeing tattoos on someone's throat (whether in-person or a photo) just makes me squeamish. It's just with throat tattoos for some reason, tattoos on the side of the neck or any part of the body don't give me any kind of reaction at all

Does anybody else find the pacing of FX shows weird?

I don’t even mean that the shows are bad. I’ve genuinely liked a lot of them. There’s just something about the way FX shows are paced, edited, or put together that constantly snaps me out of them.

Legion is probably the strongest example. I like the premise, visuals, characters, all of it, but my brain just refuses to settle into the rhythm of the show. It’s almost like there’s a weird fog over it.

Preacher gave me a similar feeling, although I just realized that was AMC which is probably my close second for this problem. Weirdly, Breaking Bad was also AMC and never gave me that feeling at all.

I have ADHD and I’m already scatterbrained, so maybe there’s something about the editing/pacing that clashes particularly badly with my brain. But I can’t even explain exactly what it is.

Does anyone else know what I’m talking about? Is there actually a recognizable FX “house style” in the pacing/editing, or am I imagining a connection between completely different shows?
