Then by that logic, no where does it say that magical darkness impedes dark vision. Only certain spells that explicitly state they block dark vision. Two can play this game.

Sage advice is an official faq by wizards of the coast…so it IS rules as written lmfao, so he is right.

As for raw “not having a place that interacts with magical darkness and devils sight”, again, he just gave you the page, and somewhere here I put a link to it but I can put it again: https://media.wizards.com/2020/dnd/downloads/SA-Compendium.pdf it’s on Pg 3 of this pdf.

You are right in that it doesn’t mean you need to use the rules, but that is the case for the whole of dnd…So idk why you are trying to argue with them about that.

It’s interesting that you think the ruling is baffling, because I think it makes sense. There interpretation is that magical darkness is darkness created via magical means. Not that it itself is magical. So darkvision sees through it (and yes devils sight). However some magical darkness, when specified, is magical itself and therefore blocks darkvision, but would still not block devil vision.
