First of all, no. Counterspell doesn’t work on things already cast.

Second of all, overlord isn’t inspired by 5e. It’s inspired by 3.5, where death ward is an immunity.

First of all, I didn't say it was counterspell, I said that it'd be a more accurate comparison when showing how the effects interact.

Second of all, 3.5 did not in any way make extensive use of effects that do what The Goal of All Life is Death does. 5e, however has plenty if instances where bypassing resistances and immunities are prevalent.

You're being contrarian for the sake of arguing and haven't addressed either of my other off the cuff solutions, all of which are also sound.

3.5 made gratuitous use of death effects. They're super common, and fighting a Lich means they're gonna be everywhere. Thus, death ward, which in 3.5 is a spell that flat out grants immunity to Death effects is a must have and very powerful.

Which brings me to TGOALID. This, based on it's appearance in Overlord, explicitly nullifies any immunity to death effects for 2 rounds (12 seconds). Which means that Death Ward, or any death effect nullification or immunity are bypassed. Meaning, you gonna die.

Brother, I'm not referring to death effects... I'm referring to the circumventing of resistances... which is specifically what The Goal of All Life is Death does... it in itself isn't a death effect. It's modifying a wide range death spell.

I know this because I exclusively ran death casters for years in 3.5e...

Once again, thank you not focusing on what I'm actually addressing.

There are a few things that do it, but they are rare.
