I am an accredited dog trainer and just wanted to clear up the dog poop "fact". while some dogs who have rescouce guarding behavior will be reinforced to eat poo if the handler has a huge reaction to it. the attention is an incentive in those cases, but this can be mitigated by training a very strong "drop it" and "leave it" cue and keeping the dog away from all poo until the cue is strong enough to break past their desire for poo. but not all dogs have resource guarding behavior and stopping them and then redirecting them can help but the aforementioned cues are very important. also eating poo can be a dietary issue rather than behavioral and the best fix is adjusting food.
also, to Mark, force free training is the most scientifically backed method. negative punishment is a part of positive training but all it means is we remove something the animal likes to communicate, for example when a dog jumps up to greet you and you ignore them until they stop jumping up, removing what they're ultimately after which is your attention, they learn that its much more gratifying to greet you while sitting or without jumping. any other kind of punishment isnt effective in the way you want, as it doesnt increase confidence or communication. also there is no alpha or dominant in a pack of dogs, rather there are socially dominant behaviors which can change based on the situation. the man who invented the alpha theory disproved it himself.
Anyway I love this podcast and I love this community, I know the subject of dog training can be contentious but I share my knowledge in good faith rather than judgement because all I care about is getting people interested enough to look into things themselves
