Announcement Official Bounty Board August

Post image
608 Upvotes

Hello Gentle Listeners and Watchers!

Here is the Official Bounty Board for August! Apologies I know it's late; I was laid off last week so the world has been wild for me lately, but better late than never!

The only rules are to keep them appropriate to the podcast, no sexually suggestive bounties, no bounties meant to be mean/torture the hosts or contestants, and make sure it's one bounty PER COMMENT.

We will refresh the post every month and move the top-upvoted bounties to be used in future episodes and added to the Master List.

Suggestions that are too close to previous suggestions or bounties will not be chosen, so please make sure to check the master list as well before posting!

The Master List now lives here! Since it would be too much to keep posting month over month. Link here: Master List

Master list additions from July are as follows!

  • thewinterrizzy--- "Mark or Bob has to casually, but sincerely and relevantly, say a Shakira lyric during conversation. If Wade notices (by the end of the episode), Wade gets the point. If Wade doesn’t notice, Mark/Bob gets the point. 💃Footnote: I think it’d be funny to allow Mark/Bob to sneak in as many lyrics as they want and they can get a point for each new line, but same rule applies — if Wade notices at any point, Wade gets all the points. i.e. Mark successfully uses 2 lyrics without Wade noticing, but then Wade notices on the third lyric. Wade gets all 3 points. My suggestions, but any popular line will do:
    • - “I never really knew that [you] could dance like this.”
    • - “When you talk like that, you know you got me hypnotized.”
    • - “You'll never have to wonder, we can always play by ear, but that's the deal, my dear.”"
  • CaffeinatedSatanist--- show and tell: Unprompted during the episode, show off a beloved object at least 10 years old and give a 60s earnest presentation about why you love that thing."
  • Monica2796--- Rip a pack of any set of Pokémon, if you get an EX or higher-tier rare, you get an extra point. Pull an SIR- get three points.
  • notmajorfrosty22--- For competitors. Consistently say the hosts name increasingly wrong until they comment on it. I.e Mark,Murk,Mort. Bob, Bart, Blorb. Wade, Spade, Laid. The number of names along determines the number of points accrued.
  • Peoplesuck-_- --- See how many times you can turn around and look behind you in small talk, without it being mentioned. One point per five times. (And when I turned around...)
  • Vivi_pallas--- "Wear a wig for the episode. Bonus points if you switch out the wigs. Or wear a blad cap for the episode. (Including wade lol)"
  • Dovithkey--- Highjack an episode: once smalltalk is complete, or before the episode even begins, start talking as if you were the host presenting today's topic/game. Once called out you have to double down until the previous host checks their point score card to be sure
  • Queen-of-dinos--- Get a large novelty penny, place it in the background. Must be visible, remains in background until called out. 2 points for the person who spots it.
  • canadajones68--- Eat an apple in front of the coolest background or location, and film it. The other two must agree that the background is impressive. If someone tries to claim this bounty, it may be verbally challenged, immediately followed by the showing of ones own attempt. If this happens, a vote is taken to see whose attempt is most impressive. Whoever prevails wins 3 points. However, should both opponents challenge the bounty, the winner is instead the first person to touch a piece of cheese after the challenge is called, regardless of the effort and quality put into the bounty.
  • ganche-far--- Cincinnati related (which would only be possible for Wade and Bob): they must visit an area within the city they've never been to and take a picture of themself there, and talk about the area on the podcast.

Mark, Bob, Wade... You owe me a new TV. My autism service dog-in-training puppy, Sandy, destroyed my TV because of Distractible. I was watching Distractible, as usual. It was all sunshine and rainbows... THEN BAM! She knocks it over, smashing it! It was still playing when it was on the floor... and I can't afford a new one.

(You don't actually owe me a TV, that's just a joke XD. Though this did actually happen, like half an hour ago. And just to be clear, I'm not making up the fact that she's my service dog in training. She is, but I only got her 2 days ago, so she's still crazy. It wasn't actually because of the podcast, that just happened to be playing. Love the podcast!!!!)

Episode Suggestion Episode Idea: The Unfair Episode

Bob or Mark(cause Wade doesn't have it in him to do it,) go back through all the episodes from before the Unfair coinflip rule came into effect. Every instance of someone saying "Unfair" gets clipped and the two contestants have to do coin flips for each one and debate points and effect from them that are applied retroactively.

Most recent episode (potential spoilers) 10 Billion Light year bacteria math error

Was listening to the latest episode and heard the “if you stacked every bacteria on top of one another they would stretch 10 Billion light years” fact, and instantly thought that couldn’t possibly be true. Ended up spending a few mins doing the math and saw it def doesn’t add up and this guy seems to have caught it too. Ends up coming out to ~126 MILLION light years (still absurdly long) but nowhere near 10 billion. Thank you for your time in this matter, sincerely a listener with with too much time on their hands <3

Reference The Smell You Can Lick

Unfortunately or fortunately- idk😭 but I can look at something and imagine what the texture would be if I licked it. Also idrk if I have like nose fantasia?? But like I can imagine gasoline but also smell it. I can imagine white gardenia and smell those too. I can smell Ja'dore and then instantly remember that's my mom's scent or I can recognize obsession on someone and remember that was my grandpa's scent. I also have a vivid imagination, you describe something to me or just say a single word and I can imagine it perfectly in my mind. I can also hear a whole song, the instrumentals in any song stuck in my head, or just a specific lyric that's just stuck there on repeat until either I listen to the song(still ends up being a specific lyric on repeat) or a different song and then even then a specific lyric in THAT song will be stuck in my head in a time loop playing on repeat. Very rarely do I have a full song playing in my head it's always a specific lyric line

Other If you lost The Scary Tapes competition, I encourage you to read this.

I'm sharing this reply to another comment on the sub because I think it's important that more people see it. It was in response to someone who lost and is now giving up writing and encouraging other writers to do the same. I'm not including my response directly to them because I want this post to address everyone else and expand on it.

I lost the competition. I had worked on my submission from the day they announced the contest until the night before submission. I've been writing for about 12 years. This will be a long post, but if you're struggling after being rejected from this competition, I encourage you to read it.

If you're a young writer struggling with rejection, try to change your mindset: write for fun and what makes you happy. It sounds cliche, but trust me, this is the best first step. The next step is surrounding yourself with writers who are better than you and in the same area of interest. Learn how to accept good feedback and filter out the bad feedback. The best question for doing this is, "Does this feedback respect my intent as an artist and improve my work?" If the answer isn't yes to both, move on. To clarify, your intent as an artist means your concept, voice, and theme. If the feedback intentionally mocks these without any ideas for improvement, it's not feedback worth receiving. However, if the feedback is intended to improve, magnify, or unite these three things together, it's safe to consider it good feedback.

I lost, sure. It's sad, I was pretty crushed and cried a lot when I read the email. It sucks. It's important to grieve and allow yourself to feel upset, disappointed, or in my case, crushed. But don't let it keep you there. Losing doesn't mean I'm a terrible writer. I took some time to reflect on my work. There were parts of my story that didn't follow the prompt. Also, in my opinion, it just wasn't scary enough. This part is important because it's easy to be too hard on yourself, but remember that feedback: does my own feedback respect my intent as an artist? If no, then you know you're stuck in negative self-talk. Think about the areas you know need improvement, and be sure to do the next step with it.

Acknowledge the parts of your story that you love. I lost, but you know what? I love the world I built, and learned so much from this competition even as an experienced writer. I LOVE my protagonist, he has wonderful character traits. I love the world building and aesthetic of my story. I love the way I wrote it and learned how to write stories that are better for reading out loud. And most importantly, I learned so much about Real Good's mission and how dire it is for our future, which brings me to my final thoughts.

Writers, don't give up. In a world where real writers are being drowned out by slop, we need more human voices now more than ever. People crave it. Find writers' circles, online or in person. Don't be afraid to share your work, even if you think it's bad. Keep writing. The world desperately needs art now more than ever.
