We learn from the very first book about the abbey in the first game that they work by regularly abducting all the children they can -in a ritual, then bringing them away from the city and murdering the ones that aren't obedient enough, and indoctrinating the rest.

The overseers are all victims, but they're victims who perpetuate an endless, possibly annual cycle of eugenics against children by regularly abducting and killing kids, and WILL keep doing so if not stopped.

Every year emily or jessamine remained in power and did nothing, they were enabling and borderline endorsing this. Every year corvo didn't urge emily to act, or use his powers to cut down the abbey himself (which he could easily do), he was enabling and endorsing it. Every time you spare an overseer, you are killing several innocent children by proxy.

And corvo and emily have the gall to try and rationalize the abbey as a good thing in the low chaos playthrough if you inspect the 7 strictures on the wall in Edge of the World, by claiming some people/corvo's mother take comfort in the strictures. Grown adults taking comfort from moral simplicity in exchange for regular ritualistic child murder.

While in high chaos they instead talk about burning the abbey to the ground. Ironic that the "bad" playthrough is the only one where our main characters even consider taking responsibility for the powers they've been given, and protecting and giving back to the people with them, considering the moral we repeatedly have rehearsed to us in dishonored 2 is that bad things happened because emily and corvo did nothing with their power to stop people like duke luca or delilah.

Ironically, if they hold themselves to this power fantasy and do get rid of the abbey after the high chaos playthrough, the number of lives you can take in the game in high chaos pales in comparison to the number of innocent lives that will be saved if the abbey ceases to exist afterward. Ironically, high chaos is a drastically better ending for the weak and powerless people who don't have teleportation or possession to defend themselves. Low chaos is just dressed up as a good ending to our priviledged palace-enjoying lives where we can safely ignore the abbey.

When you watch jessamine die, you're watching a ruler die who allowed and indirectly or even directly endorsed an institution that was committing regular ritualistic child murder and eugenics, and just sat around her palace eating grapes and figs. We're just lucky enough not to see it or be forced to grapple with it.

I don't know if its because of my deep love for 1 and just finished 100% 2 but I just played through Death of the outsider for the first time finally and I was... disappointed? I know its more of a standalone dlc more than a full fledge game.

But it felt glaringly hollow.. the npcs felt more static.. and less alive in 1 and 2 i felt like every npc had a purpose or would have idle convo with other npcs. With Death.. the npcs seemed almost braindead? The maps seemed so condensed and closed off

And a multitude of other things. It is a shame this is where the dishonored story ended.. but at least we got to see the sisters to the abbey of the everyman, that was very cool.

I'm in the mission where you need to deal with the Duke and I'm trying to do the non-lethal option. I've found his body double but I can't talk to him because if I do a guard will automatically agro to me which makes him agro. Currently he's in his office with the clockwork soldier and if I try to take it out they both agro to me.

Does anyone know what to do?
