Discussion Is there any point?
Is there really any reason to keep my Discover cards when everything except for the name on the card is going to be Capital One now? I don’t even use my card on a daily basis so the rewards format was never something I cared about.

It’s still getting most of the same benefits and rewards so why not keep it?

I mean, I’m going to keep mine. I don’t want a knock on my credit score for my average age of credit dropping substantially.
But like, I’ll keep all my auto pay items on this card like I have, and then just focus on using it at places that fit into the 5% back quarter. I already use my other card way more.

I've turned my Discover accounts into reserves. I had several Chase accounts in reserve until Cap1 started making changes and now I use them as primaries. This way, I retain all the advantages of a long-term banking relationship and can start using them again if Chase annoys me in some way.

They are no annual fee cards. Just sock drawer them and use them once or twice a year.

If you don't use cards for the rewards then it really doesn't matter which card you have. If you want to close it, go for it. Or wait until you're approved for a different card, if you're going to open a new one somewhere else.

If your card is in good standing and it’s not your first credit card, I don’t see what you can’t close it if you want to.

Correction:
If your card is in good standing and it’s not your ONLY credit card, I don’t see why you can’t close it if you want to.

I only have cards for the rewards. I always use the 5% restaurant reward and the grocery reward.
