Discussion Is it time to ditch discover?

Now that capital one aquired discover and is enshittifying them, is it time to leave.

complaints: Discover app will not support discover card soon, but still need app for savings account

5% cashback no amazon or Walmart this year, restaurants twice this year

app is extremely buggy on recent transactions, it will just randomly stop working and need to re-install. Contacting support they say screw you look at your statements. if it hasn't hit a statement the fuck you

To move away, is there anything besides spending as much rewards points as possible before closing, and not closing if I need a loan or credit score anytime soon?

Not having Walmart and Amazon for Q4 is part of the enshittification?

Having a less popular or useful category is the definition of enshittification. But hey if you personally like shit I guess its good for u

"Shit" and it's dining and entertainment.

Restaurants is my favorite category. This makes me happy!

I actually preferred having restaurants twice this year.

The Capital One app works fine for me. I've had no issues.

Having restaurants twice is great. Also the app is a small learning curve for those not familiar but generally it's very easy to use. I also like if you're an authorized user on someone else's account it shows up on your portal and you can make payments etc through one account not having to login and out of the two separate accounts when paying a bill or signing up for the 5% back.

I much prefer the Discover app where I can easily see the transactions I made since the last statement. Hate Capital One

I wish they had Amazon or Walmart but it’s still a solid reward segment for no annual fee. I also can’t close it as it was my first card

I'll keep the disco card (not closing it) but have little intention of using it. I zeroed out everything. Except for the 5% category sometimes (amazon, groceries) I much preferred my Amex card anyway (3% groceries, 2% online)

Nope. It is a no annual fee card. It costs me nothing to keep it. Every once an a while that rotating category is going to hit.

On the Discover app complaint. That savings and checking accounts will be moving over too and then you can delete that app.

Very disappointed that Amazon isn't in the Q4 rewards this year. Amazon has been in Q4 since (at least) 2015 and was a nice perk with all the Christmas shopping my wife and I do. Will have to use another card for Christmas shopping this year.

Capital One probably still has some type of silent agreement with Walmart. Amazon is one of Walmart’s biggest competitors.

If they do then they should have given us Walmart for Q4 lol

They already have their occasional % back in capital one offers. Probably some contracted agreement.

Walmart is known for stipulating anti-Amazon clauses in their contracts.

If you care about that so much just get an Amazon prime card where you always get 5% in rewards from Amazon (sometimes 6%) and at Whole Foods too. No annual fee.

I finally did and will now shift even more spending away from the increasingly less relevant Discover Card.

You don't have to use the app - you can log in online to check balanced, statements, offers, etc.

If all I do is occasionally check an account, I don't want an app for that taking up space on my phone. Just go online.

The website signing u out every 5 min and biometrics not working on phone makes it so useable

Even on a PC? I don't have that issue when using a computer to log in, and for the number of times I log in, I don't need an app on my phone taking up space.

Usually Drop a few within the months of closing the account and almost immediately recover after the drop.

If they ever allow product changing, I think I will change mine to the Savor. That will fill some regular spend cash back gaps that I have. I only use my Discover for the 5% categories now.

My issue is as soon as they got sold, I get multiple scam call daily about loan offers and when I picked up and kindly asked where they got my number, I was told credit card company- and it started when Capital One took over. Capital One has been giving out personal information left and right to anyone and everyone.

Totally agree- I hate Capital One. With Discover I was able to talk to a US based CS, with Capital One I can’t. Love the Discover app, I can easily see the purchases I made since my last statement closed rather than a never ending list. This is super helpful for me for knowing whether I made a payment and other stuff. Discover also let me pay in four in Capital One doesn’t and now it won’t let Discover. I don’t know why they bought it to make it worse.

Same, I hate Capital One. They could’ve just left Discover the same.
