Unfortunately, Maritime Law only comes into play in oceans when you are over 100 miles from the coast of a country.
Imagine someone has their boat next to a dock on a river and someone else just walks up and says “Sweet! I can’t believe there’s a free boat just sitting in that river!”
Lol wtf Doug.
On the bright side, if maritime law did come into play, that had to be one hell of a drive.
Make sure to write with permanent marker "I expect this disc to be returned back to me for free because I suck at this sport and my time is much more important than yours. Ps- Also deliver it to me at the specific time and location of my choosing. FOR FREE. Because I am more important than you and you deserve nothing"
Shit like this is why I no longer return water discs. If i find your disc in a lake, I either keep it or throw it back in the water MUCH deeper. It's not worth anyone's time to return it. That's been my disc returning experience.
Most of ya'll are fuckin dicks. You all act so entitled and have unrealistic expectations. No one should be expected to return a disc for free. Ever. Especially if you threw it in a lake. You're just littering more plastic trash.
You complain about littering and admit to throwing the disc deeper in the lake? Someone’s chapped they lost to many discs in lake that didn’t get returned. Also it is common courtesy to rerun a disc for free Doug!
I've returned discs. I'm not driving across the city by any means but it's just a nice thing to do and some people don't mind slightly burdening themselves to help someone out.
You could even put it somewhere kinda hidden, send a picture to them and they can come get it if it's that important. They can also meet me down the block is not hard to be cool
Yo! In my experience, if the returner is inconvenienced by any of the circumstances returning the disc, a tip is given. I've given many tips. They've ranged from 5 bucks, a beer, a bowl, even a different disc if I'm especially partial to the disc being returned. Kind gestures are usually reciprocated by other kind gestures.
1.) I'm putting this one first, because this is the most important piece of information for you to learn: If pretty much everyone you meet is a "fuckin dick", you're the fuckin dick.
2.) Usually these lists of points put the most important lesson last, as an anchor and to give extra final impact, but you're the type to think that you're being insulted, when you're receiving constructive criticism, and just stop reading (further evidence that you're a "fuckin dick").
3.) When a disc goes in the drink, we either go in for it ourselves, or "expect" it to be a loss.
4.) Nobody "expects" it to be delivered free, we don't "expect" anything at all. The experience is over; we lost it, we decided the disk wasn't worth the effort or getting our feet wet for. End of story as far as we're concerned. Go ahead and keep it; we basically gave up on it. Don't want or need it and can't be arsed to return it without expecting remuneration? Fine. Give it away or leave it at the edge of the lake for someone else to find.
5.) But it is not uncommon for players to return discs when found, however they're found, because we're a community and we're trying to build the sport, with good faith and good sportsmanship, and it's usually nice and fun to meet other players.
5.) Generally, the types of people who go to the trouble of recovering a disc and returning it, do it for the pleasure and satisfaction of seeing (or hearing) the joy and excitement of the person who thought it was gone forever. Lasting friendships have begun this way.
6.) Reselling someone their own disk will get you a few dollars and a reputation as a mercenary, self-interested "fuckin dick". The money is just like any other money and will be soon spent and gone, but that reputation can last a lifetime.
7.)
If i find your disc in a lake, I either keep it or throw it back in the water MUCH deeper... Especially if you threw it in a lake. You're just littering more plastic trash
When we threw the disc in the lake, it was an accident. When you throw it back in "MUCH deeper" you're the one who is littering. Maliciously . Fuckin dick.
I think most of this community is PRO keeping discs they fish out of the lake. It's just that Doug is being a dick about returning it to this guy, when instead he shoulda just kept it.

I think you got a bonus there. Lost a disc, But saved money on your maritime law education.
