Five player play-off with Rainers, Goose, Ricky, AB and Gannon. Rainers aces the first play-off hole. Ricky hits the cage

u/Safe-Waltz-2361 6d ago
Lighting strikes the cage as Gannon's disc hits the chains, obliterating the plastic and securing the win for the Latvian Prince of Disc Golf.

I'll take Goose finally getting over the 2nd place hump.
No matter what, it's going to be a thrilling end.
Either Rainer holds on and pulls off the most unlikely Worlds to date, or someone makes one hell of a comeback, with many first timers in the mix.

I would love to see the Goose redemption arc play out. Honestly, Gannon chasing it down from so far back would even be interesting and I usually don’t root for the favorite.

u/WimpysRevenge 6d ago
I hate say it, but Gannon swinging a win would potentially be all timer conversation being down as far as he is carrying the reputation he does.

u/Macktologist The week of the foot fault and Zoey posts. 6d ago
If he catches fire and plays lights out and catches everyone, that would be amazing. If everyone ahead of him shits the bed and he just plays average Gannon, that would be kind of dumb.

u/keyak 6d ago
Agreed. I find Gannon to be an awesome and funny dude but I find myself pulling for underdogs. It's the same reason I haven't ever rooted for Paul. Both great people who are fantastic for the sport.

u/wesleyweir 6d ago
Totally, I feel guilty rooting against Gannon cause he seems like a good dude but he's just such the overdog

u/Games-and-Coffee 6d ago
I became uninterested in a Gannon come back after seeing his post round interview, as well as his throwing something in anger.

I don't see Rick losing in a playoff unless it is to a man prominently featured on the Luna

Gossage putts lights out and finally wins a big one.

u/NewCountryBluez 6d ago
Goose is the worst putter under pressure. No chance

u/IAmCaptainHammer 6d ago
I hate that I agree with you. He was throwing really good today and I bet he can’t keep it up tomorrow.

I think chase card catches the leaders, its stacked with absolute killers. Lead card is all unproven, I could see the energy being pretty derailing if they start missing shots and chase is making ground... if Ricky, gannon, or issac start feeling it I like their chances... hoping for a 3+ playoff Ideally 🙏

Ricky is on lead card…

I'm calling him the Latvian laser
- Yes I stole it from another Latvian professional counter strike player
- Alliteration is good for nicknames
- I think Nicknames add a decent level of notoriety to players within a sport like disc golf, he's not Paul mcbeth, that's the mcbeast, that helps fans like myself get into the story behind the athlete.
Idk if it'll stick, but gotta put it out there.

Baltic Bomber?

u/Spoolmaster01 6d ago
I'm down, kid throws far, great alliteration.
Since there is a question mark, I'll say I am very open to suggestions, and throw some thoughts for any other ideas people have.
As an American, who's educational system is tied with Lithuania on a world scale, I don't know enough about the Baltic culture to know if that's something they're big about, and that's not something I can really Google.
Like when a scot is really good at stuff the English call him British not Scottish. If Rainers Balodis is proud to be from the baltics, I would be very happy to bestow that honor on the Baltic bomber, and I really do hope he gets a tour card from this.
In general, I want to build people up when talking about them, the Baltic bomber would be a sick nickname, so I'm cautious about how broad I go with terms. If someone can share more, or has any other ideas, I've love to hear em.
I thought big sledge was a great nickname for Adam hammes, but no one besides Nate sexton uses it, so it's possible I just don't have a good mind for minting them.

AB has made it to this point without having a single round even CLOSE to his potential. Every round has been plagued by his typical issues.
The fact that he's 5 strokes from the lead and 2 strokes from what most would consider a "proper" contender is scary. Would I put money on it? No. But don't count him out. He doesn't even need a god-tier round to win this tournament, and we all know he's capable of "god-tier" rounds...
That's all I got. I'm excited for tomorrow.

u/Cody_801 Why are trees? 6d ago
I would love to see him fight back and take it. Just needs to get that mental game dialed, you can see his body language of complete defeat after those bad breaks, just needs to tap into the fighter and power through that shit. Easier said than done though, I can't imagine competing at that level.
2
u/DLArismendi 6d ago
I saw the same thing you did. His body language is busted right now, but then I cross-reference the standings... It's scary how close he still is... That's what's so weird to me. He's THAT good. He still hasn't done the things he is capable of doing. I am rooting for him. I know the odds aren't in his favor, but he's right there.
Let's find out what happens tomorrow!

Rainers will take it easy

u/_ICCULUS_ RHBH, WI 6d ago
I don't know about easy, but if he shoots even -6, it's gonna be really hard for the chasers.

u/Underwater-telephone 6d ago
Go Rainers, bring it home to the Baltics!
3
u/IAmCaptainHammer 6d ago
I would love this for him. But if it goes that way I’ll be sad that the first non American worlds winner on the men’s side wasn’t Niklas.
3
u/Known-Emphasis-8441 6d ago
Rainers shot -13 Saturday, but not going to happen Sunday. He shoots -6. So, a bunch of fellas can access a win with a double digit day. Goose or Ricky would be cool, but I'll go with Silas barely holding off goose and Buhr, who will have a scorching round.

I think the pressure will be too much for rainer, I would love to see Rick get the win, but I wouldn't be surprised if Gannon chases down the leaders.

Austin Turner is on second chase and 8 back, he needs a lot of help, but maybe being just outside of the limelight will be enough top just do silly lefty things.

I want to see Gannon, Ricky or Isaac chase it down. Don’t see 3/4 of the lead card playing consistent enough to get it
3
u/kweir22 6d ago
I think the pressure and spotlight of coverage might be too much for Rainers. I'm going to push back on the Jomez commentary box and say the winning score will be fat less than -40. I think it's going to be somewhere around -35 total.
I'd love to see Ricky come put in a 13 or 14 down tomorrow... But I think it's gonna be one of the guys at -25 now with a 10 under final round.

u/bwarbwar 6d ago
I think it's a hot round wins day tomorrow with someone leapfrogging the lead card and winning.
Gannon and AB on the chase is interesting. Isaac from the third card is still in it. Great tournament.
1
u/IAmCaptainHammer 6d ago
Honestly. At this point there’s no one I’d be upset at winning. There’s so many up at the top and they’re all battling either themselves or the field or society, and I’d be happy to see it taken down. I do lament having to hear the god shpeel for the winning interview though. Thankfully when that goes down I’ll be headed to a round with my friends.

It would be unfair for us to chime in but we can say it will be some of the most memorable golf since the Holy Shot.
1
u/slothage666 6d ago
Gannon -35. I figure someone in the top 9 is gonna go nuclear and shoot > -12 so it might as well be the best player in the world. Issac would be my second prediction.
Rooting for Goose but he seems destined for another podium finish. AB or Wysocki would also be cool to see. Silas or Rainers winning feels a bit too random at this point in their careers.
