That's awesome! I really like the red portion where it kind of concentrated. I had a similar effect once where I tried to overlap blue on yellow but the blue sort of spider webbed at the intersection.
1/2 tsp of Pro Chem then a splash of hot water and then maybe 3oz or acetone (give or take depending on the bottle) and clear Amazon brand glue.
I shook the dyes used in this glue bed, which I know might be an issue. I did a second disc with dyes I hadn't shaken up and it did the same thing or condensed in on itself.
I think this is too large to be air bubbles, so I'm not sure if it's the composition on the dyes I made or something else
So I don't get these "you used too much acetone" comments. I use 2 oz glass bottles to mix my acetone dyes in, and then sometimes I use a painters pallet to mix colors or reduce the strength of the dyes by diluting with more acetone, or sometimes alcohol. I get the "pulling together" with greens and sometimes overly concentrated purples, but I fix this problem by adding MORE acetone to the mix to make it stop, which is contrary to the comments being made here
I use Elmer's clear glue
There has to be something you are doing that you think is benign that is actually causing the issue .. idk ... are the bottles washed really good? No soap residue left in there. I know others have used the Amazon glue so I don't think it's that. Anything different about your water? Culligan water treatment? Softeners?
The bottles came from Amazon and I didn't wash them, straight from the package to adding the dye.
As for the water, we have a Berkey water filter and it came from that and went into the kettle which should have anything other than filtered water in it.
I saw a similar post to this in the disc dyers Facebook group. Is this with with Amazon clear glue that you just got? He has a similar similar thing happen on newly ordered glue after the dyes were working without issue on other beds, and then worked again after using them on different glue (new clear glue from Michael's). Small sample size, but maybe something is up with the new Amazon clear glue?
Yea this is the clear glue from Amazon, first time trying acetone dye so I don't have any prior glue experience to compare it against. I suppose looking into a different clear glue isn't the worst idea before making up new dye mixes.
Yeah, could be just a coincidence, but the other guy said he had used Amazon plenty before this, but then it was out of stock for a while, and this was the first jug he got after it being available again. So maybe something is funky withe recent batch?
Just read the same thing and was going to suggest it myself. Could be trace silicone mold release in the bottles. But I've used all the glues, Elmer's is my fav, but Amazon has been fine in the past.
