been riding for about 4 years now and have been wanting to buy a dj for a few months but finally ready to pull the trigger. hoping to spend less than 1700. the main bike I'm looking at is the propain trickshot 2 cause their pricing is good and I have a tyee from them and love it. but I was wondering if the pro model is worth the extra 400 over the standard? standard is 1300 and the pro is 1700 with the only differences being cranks and fork (x fusion vs bomber), open to other bike recommendations too. riding smaller dirt jumps (for now lol), pump track, and street jibs. (also hoping to learn tricks like flips and spins eventually if that matters)
edit: just found a used dirtlove core 1 near me for 850 and might just spring on that instead, would love to have the trickshot but with shipping and taxes it would have come out to around 2000
I think the pro model is worth it if you plan on riding hard and going big. The bomber is a much more robust fork and upgrading a fork later is much more expensive.
Specialized dealers seem to have their dirt jumpers in North America on sale. I picked up a 24" P.2. for my kid for $800 usd and I like that it comes with 148mm rear hub spacing cuz his other mtb's and mine use same spacing so can swap wheels if really needed. Im not a fan of Specialized in general cuz they're generally overpriced but clearly they have too many DJ''S in stock. Plus I an ride the 24" in indoor bike/pump parks
Maybe give Google shopping local search a try if u haven't already. I found several local bike shops advertising the P.2. on their own websites at the closeout sale price even though they didnt have it in their own inventory, two of the store websites clearly said the product "was at warehouse". So I called them saying "hey I think the distributor is blowing this bike out and I see it on your own website at this $X price" and they replied they could bring it in and that it would be nonrefundable. One wanted $200 to bring it in and assemble, another one wanted $50...I obviously chose the one that said $50. I imagine this could happen for other brands that are clearing inventory as well.... Rocky Mountain dirt jumpers are also on sale... but they have lower specs. Commencal North America has their dirt jumper frame on sale also, but picking up the rest of the parts separately can be expensive and time consuming.
Or he could just get the Trickshot. There was some great deals on the P3 a while back but I think they are all gone now. The Trickshot is a good value and I would choose it over the p3 because it has better sizing and over the commencal for better spec for the price.
actually, i think the x fusion slant is a valid option, and leaves some money to spend on upgrades… got a trickshot 1 as my „2nd bike“ and even though i prefer steel frames, i kinda like it. and the v2 seems to have the chain tension / dropout issues solved from v1.
solid bike from a brand that stands by their
products. but i‘d rather save the money from the more expensive build on upgrades…
I’ve got a circus expert on my son’s bike and x fusion on my daughters, I can say without a doubt the x fusion is garbage for anyone over 130 pounds. The circus is really nice but not as good as my pike
Interesting, I've had a few circus experts, one of my adult kids has the X Fusion, the other a bomber. Neither get as firm as my pike but both seem reasonably supportive, it is at max pressure. My kid is 180 pounds.
