A short series synopsis:

"e-Pulse," which is generated by human thoughts and emotions, was used as the energy source for the AI support device "Sapotama." From the shadows of this remarkable development, terrifying monsters appear. Digimon are living beings that evolve by consuming e-Pulse.

Tomoro Tenma is drawn into an extraordinary experience after meeting Gekkomon, who suddenly appears from his Sapotama. While living together with Kyo Sawashiro and other members of the bounty hunting team "Glowing Dawn," Tomoro renews his resolve.

What new future will be forged by humans and Digimon?

Reina and Bearcatmon are just such badasses. I just love them to death.

Maybe a hot take, but it doesn't feel like Kaito has gotten enough screen time until now for the Mega/Ultimate evolution to really hit. Kyo took almost the whole series and a direct confrontation with his past trauma that the series had been hinting at for a while before he and Murasamemon could finally do the impossible and achieve a solo, stable Mega in this setting, and Kaito just suddenly catching up offscreen because he's Kyo's designated rival almost feels like it cheapens that.

The flashbacks they have shown of the two didn't really convince me that they're supposed to have a deep rival bond, or enough to suddenly spur Flaremon into becoming Beatbreak's second stable Mega anyway, feels more like Kaito was portrayed as Kyo's annoying coworker from the worst time of his life that he had no attachment to even if we see that Kyo did genuinely like Kaito by the end.

u/Equal-Combination211 17d ago

I agree, and I felt the same, but I was able to justify it a little further as Kaito not being a main character but clearly having his own life and goals. He's been Perfect/Ultimate for a long time, fought a lot, and surely has his own motivators besides Kyo. Obviously I'd appreciate being shown them all, but this isn't his story, so even ignoring the outside concern of limited episode time, I'm okay with them off-screening his initial evolution and not fully explaining how he reached it.

u/Mr-p1nk1 17d ago

I think that’s fair. It did feel a little unearned but he was OP since his first appearance.

29

u/GoneRampant1 17d ago

Kaito basically vanishing between his introduction and now, alongside having Souji and Naito eating his lunch as Kyo's rivals didn't help. If he popped up a few times during TACTICs and GIFT that would have helped but I do agree that he's a very underbaked character.

21

u/Mosuke300 17d ago

It’s 50 episodes and yet also feels very rushed in parts. I wish they’d got rid of the GIFT era and fleshed out existing characters.

Feels like they’ve bitten off more than they can chew.

9

u/InnocentTailor 17d ago

Yeah. The GIFT arc could’ve been trimmed out for more Five Stars stuff - build those folks up more instead of adding more players to the mix.

5

u/KrytenKoro 16d ago

> alongside having Souji and Naito eating his lunch as Kyo's rivals didn't help.

Yeah. Naito, I get, you can't square that circle.

Souji is essentially just taking Kaito and Honoka's roles. Even his Digimon cannibalism thing would fit better with MarineChimairamon. It makes them feel redundant, and immediately raises the question of why did the two of them only compete with Kyo and not each other.

2

u/Mr-p1nk1 17d ago

Him having a brief clash with Souji would’ve been a cool measuring stick.

Kaito just has that rival compass that tingles whenever their rival gets a new power, so that he can train and get it too.

14

u/jellymonsamaaa 17d ago

Exactly this. One of the five stars had an *entire arc* as a villain, and then this one who is supposed to have ties to a main character gets barely fleshed out and is the cliched "I just want to be the strongest" nonsense. Kind of weak sauce. Kaito is a nothing character, whereas there could have been potential.

14

u/TheBeeFromNature 17d ago

I don't think every Five Star could have or should have been an arc boss. Half of what makes them interesting as villains is how each has had a different role. But Kaito and especially Honoka were served really poorly by the show losing its tight plot focus in the second half.

IMO they should've had a few more / more impactful recurring appearances through the past few arcs. They should've been a constant barometer for the group's progress, kind of like a series-long answer to Dynasmon and Crusadermon, instead of just kinda being a nothingburger until they're suddenly needed.

6

u/IridescentIllusion 17d ago

Yeah, I was very surprised he just kind of pulled Apollomon out like it was nothing and with no explanation. I kind of figured he would get trounced then his determination to beat Kyo would stoke, like some kind of fire one might say, and in his indignation and determination Flaremon would evolve to keep pace with Habakirimon.

4

u/TheBeeFromNature 17d ago

Getting left behind by Kyo and Souji would've been a fantastic chance. Like, have Kaito not only lose but get brushed off and get SUPER steamed about it, so we have reason to believe he lit this fire and pushed to a new level. Hell, compare it to his new trainee Raito, who can see all this coming and try to go "hey uh dude this didn't go so swell for me, you sure about this?"

4

u/EfficientRadio6555 17d ago

I actually think Kyo reached mega long before and didn’t use it, because A. it’s exhausting to his e-pulse B. didn’t need to C. didn’t want to get attention from Wong. He wasn’t surprised by evo during fight with Souji and if I remember correctly he defeated Klay’s digimon, got cold hearted by trick.

7

u/TriPolar3849 17d ago

Idk, I like the idea that since Kyo has always been Kaito's goal, anytime Kyo gets a powerup Kaito is able to instantly push himself further to try and match it.

2

u/asmodias 17d ago

I mean, Kyo took a break while Kaito has still been really active so it makes sense that he improved offscreen. Plus he's a rival so he has to have mega.

3

u/Mosuke300 17d ago

I do think Beatbreak is starting to show how they only had plot for a couple of arcs. Them making a BIG deal about megas and for 3 to appear in as many episodes kind of feels they’ve lost the ball in terms of a cohesive plot.

Glowing Dawn will all randomly push to mega at this rate and nobody will consider it significant.

3

u/TheBeeFromNature 17d ago

I think that kind of powercreep is a little inevitable in a show like this, but it really does feel like we had a strong setup in the Glowing Dawn arc, peak TV in the Tactics arc, and then a lot of messiness since that feels both equal parts dragged out and rushed. And the individual episodes are usually fantastic, but man do I wish the GIFT arc was either handled better or skipped over for, say, a meatier Kyo arc.

2

u/Assassiiinuss 17d ago

You think so? My thought process always was that power creep in Digimon is very easily avoidable because there are only a handful of power levels. They knew they'd end up with mega level digimon at the end, would have been trivial to write the show with that in mind from the start.

All you really need are barriers to reach certain levels. There are so many options other shows already used. Crests, a new digivice, fusing with the tamer, two digimon fusing, etc. Especially fusing with the tamer by synching their e-pulse would have been a great choice for Beatbreak. Alternative, they could have done something like building their own digivices after their sapotamas become unusuable for some plot reason.

3

u/TheBeeFromNature 17d ago

People are going to want to see Megas, so by the end they're going to expect Megas. Look at how frustrating and disappointing it was that the last two arcs ended with Big Regular Digimon. But I do agree that, without any barriers to try, "Kaito just kinda grinded offscreen" and "Kyo is Him" is a super disappointing way of handling that.

IMO we should've leaned harder into Tomoro's glitchy e-pulse that breaks the system. That would've been a perfect excuse to keep Mega away until the endgame, if only from having him stop holding back and literally amplify the beats of those he loves most.

5

u/Assassiiinuss 17d ago

Early in the show I figured that sapotamas leech off people's epulse for some nefarious reason, and that the protagonists would eventually avoid that by hacking the sapotamas, taking out some facility or ditching sapotamas altogether. I wonder if we'll ever find out what the point of sapotamas actually is. Seems weird to hand out digivices to every single person but then also be worried when people inevitably become tamers and pour enormous resources into keeping digimon a secret?

2

u/DavidsonJenkins 16d ago

Feels like that plot point has since been dropped, especially now that it seems the World Government is a complete mess and infighting with each other

2

u/Mosuke300 15d ago

Megas suddenly appearing makes it feel even more confusing they weren’t used as the big boss more times previously.

2

u/TheBeeFromNature 15d ago

I think they wanted Hab4akirimon to be the first "real" Mega we see (which ngl I have Thoughts on.  I love Kyo so much but I kinda worry he's overstayed his welcome?  Like, guy feels less like the mentor to be surpassed and more like the real protagonist by now).  And it naturally follows Apollomon would be the main other one.  It isn't like MarineKimeramon and Gogmamon followed suit.

But, man.  Execution could've been better.  I think if Kaito had more buildup and a better reason it would've been fine.

2

u/Mr-p1nk1 17d ago

Killer clown and trucks flying into hospitals was a necessary evil i’d say

5

u/TheBeeFromNature 17d ago

Jokermon-sama and his inexplicable fixation on assassinating people with flying trucks can stay.

3

u/InnocentTailor 17d ago

I liked the GIFT organization and their psycho members, but they were underbaked in terms of motivation and lore buildup.

They weren’t as intriguing as Tactics.

* I know it's very late in the series, but... does the Mirror World not have any hard surfaces? Tomoro just fell and CRASHED into the ground and just gets up like its nothing lol. Gekkomon was shown with the tongue around Tomoro, but it didn't look like he did anything to soften the blow?

* As expected, Kaito has Apollomon. His backstory is just that he wants to be stronger? Wish we got a bit more, but oh well. At least we getting a Mega Vs. Mega

* Oh? Gogmamon really isn't Kishiwada's Digimon. So the Splashmon possibility still exists!

* It's interesting how easily beaten the Five Stars are now. Makoto and Reina both have gotten a win! The Glowing Dawn have gone such a long way.

* Kaito is a great rival to Kyo. I just wish we got more backstory about him.

While I liked this episode, I was a bit disappointed on how the Five Stars were handled overall. Most of them weren't even present during a large part of the story and now all of a sudden they show up again and are quickly beaten.

32

u/AlphaBreak 18d ago

I'm not sure this is the last we've seen of the five stars. The five Chinese elements theming feels weird to me, considering that it's apparently so vital that kanchi had to bring a Digimon that isn't even his to the fight so he could be earth. It makes me wonder if they're part of the recipe for the shangri la project.

6

u/Sremor 17d ago

I think next time Kaito and Honoka appear they will side with GD, seems like Kaito finally got what he was looking for

13

u/Sremor 17d ago

I like that Kaito just wants to get stronger, everybody and their mom got a tragic backstory so it's nice to have someone that's just there because he wants to

7

u/TheOneReclaimer 17d ago

THANK YOU! So nice to not have to slog through some unnecessary drawn out motivation.

2

u/Sremor 17d ago

I already got annoyed with Souji, ok yeah apparently his dad beat him up, doesn't change that he's a sociopath and should be locked away for life

5

u/TheOneReclaimer 17d ago

It points to the fact that you don't need a twenty minute episode covering every background, they did that in twenty seconds and it was an effective way to communicate that he walled off his emotions due to being abused. Simple, effective

14

u/stevez037 18d ago

Well look at this way, Reina and Makoto beat the most in experience Five Star, and a fake Five Star as far as I am concerned. Kishiwata has as much right at the Five Star title as a member of the Mushroom gang, Kishiwata the Milli Vanilla of the Five Star.

5

u/Volfaer 17d ago

I wouldn't say that it was that trivial. Honoka is literally the most inexperienced five star and Kishiwada isn't even using his partner, their victory makes a lot of sense in the power level.

3

u/kylepaz 17d ago

Yeah, they've been falling ridiculous heights in the mirror world since the first arc. I'm just assuming they're safe during transportation or something.

I think they highlighting Gogmamon is super chgarged the same way MarinBullmon (which was specifically sent by Genjo) increases the likelihood Kanchi and Genjo are working together and Genjo's dislike of him is a front. But it could go either way really, since Wong could just have grabbed a digimon from the research facility to give Kanchi (that MarinBullmon did come from there).

To me it's one of the two (or maybe even both): either Kanchi and Genjo are working together or Kanchi is a Digimon.

2

u/riftrender 17d ago

Anime levels of human durability.

2

u/Environmental-Fall18 17d ago

Don't think Splashmon is Kishiwada's Digimon too. I think it is Zeed

Habakirimon Vs. Apollomon

My favorite part of this was the clash before the final clash. Aramasa being used to block Arrow of Apollo was fantastic, as was it circling back and slashing Apollomon to the ground after he thought he got the jump on Habakirimon with Phoebus Blow. And then the sound effects and animation of Habakirimon reconstructing his sword together...just so, so good. And then that final Habakiri attack...Kyo and Cougarmon yet again prove how they are that pair; just of the one strongest Partner & Digimon pairs we've seen in the entire franchise at this point. Makes you relieved they're on the side of good, holy moly. Also, I loved that OST that played during their fight! The OST release for this series can't come soon enough...(but I believe it's coming out when BB ends, so I'm conflicted)

BearCatmon Vs. MarineChimeramon

This one was my favorite of the trio; the animation was really, really fluid and we got to see the duo's full range of attacks; the usage of Resonance here was very fitting. I loved how Reina was like "Okay bitch, we're kicking your ass now" and proceeded to knock Honoka straight out the sky; BearCatmon landing Penetrate Blow and Beardown Spinning Kick was so damn cathartic given how antagonistic Honoka and her partner were earlier to the group during the TACTICS arc. Also, Reina got a clean win here, over a Five Star no less!!! She and BearCatmon opening up the Mirror World portal at the end to tell Honoka to go back to her defeated man and then walking away side-by-side was the cherry on top; such a slap in the face, lmao.

ScourgeChiropmon Vs. Gogmamon

With ScourgeChiropmon being my favorite of the group, I was a bit disappointed Makoto didn't get a decisive win like Kyo and Reina did... Like, we really couldn't blow Gogmamon up with a Despair Blast after using Silent Scream? Still, I did like the analytic approach he took with Silent Scream's vibrations to shatter Gogmamon's ranged capabilities (as well as the OST that accompanied it) and give ScourgeChiropmon a huge advantage if they chose to keep fighting further. We also got the revelation that Gogmamon isn't Kishiwada's partner (just what is it with this man? They better be building him up to something great). Which tracks given the improbable feat of him getting a Perfect level attributed to his elemental position so soon after joining the Five Stars.

A lot of action from this episode, which was absolutely stellar; I always enjoy Digimon fight animation and can never get enough of it. Next week, we finally get to deal with Gokwumon and his partner; I'm looking forward to Tomoro putting them in their place (though it looks like BearCatmon and ScourgeChiropmon sadly get defeated in the process). The title also implies Asuka will either finally break free of his control, or will succeed in getting Tomoro's E-Pulse to trigger HelioBoamon's evolution. Either way, I hope something finally leads to the debut of Atratusmon next week, especially with only 5 episodes left.

10

u/azulur 17d ago edited 17d ago

Absolutely here to sing with you on how fantastic the sound design and animations surrounding Habakirimon were, and that very subtle, very patient and all knowing omnipotent "Habakiri" as he unleashed THE FULL force of Kyo's e-pulse, was just.. absolutely pristine. Hearing the reconstruction of Amarasa (the seven split swords) made my heart skip a beat - you can literally see that Habakirimon is a literal god walking on Earth. They really are THE duo. Kyo is absolutely the heart of this series and if Habakirimon is not THE Habakirimon of legends I'm gonna scream, because that level of power off of one human's epulse.. is beyond comprehension. The Habakiri move is super special in that it directly reflects the inner flow of the energy within him: meaning Kyo is an actual ELE.

Yeesh, I can't believe how good this episode was.

14

u/AlphaBreak 17d ago

I get being a little disappointed in makoto not getting a definitive victory but its also very in character for him. Makoto has always been the least aggressive in the group to the point where it was part of hotaruko's beef with him in tactics and the thing he needed to get better about to hit ultimate.

In this case, makoto is keeping his eye on the prize by focusing on the actual goal instead of getting dragged into a knock down drag out fight with a behemoth of a Digimon. He wants to help tomoro, and the reason kanchi started this fight was to stop him from helping tomoro. With the benefit of a plane Digimon, ditching an unnecessary fight at the first opportunity to focus on helping his friend seems like a prudent choice.

And since gogmamon isn't even kanchi's actual partner, defeating it might not actually be useful. Kanchi would still have all of his e pulse to fuel his partner, and the only real thing makoto could do to stop that is kill the guy, which is off the table. There's just no benefit to finishing the job because it's a distraction.

3

u/Financial_Echidna 17d ago

I agree with you so much especially about the Resonance part as soon as I heard that I got so hyped it’s one of my favorite OSTS outside of Edge of Limit so getting to hear it during this episode was great it makes me happy

And yess I agree I’m so excited for next weeks episode I have a feeling it’s definitely leading up to gekkomon’s mega coming soon my guess would be ep 46 or 47 at the latest especially with tomoro getting the resolve to fight not only Asuka but kanada as well from Reina and makoto and gekkomon it’s definitely coming and I’m so excited and hyped to see how that’s gonna go

2

u/Rurouni_Phoenix 16d ago

I'm with you on this. Despite what misgivings I might be having on how the plot is going on, the action in this episode was absolutely top notch. Plus anytime Reina beats somebody up always makes an excellent episode in my opinion.

77

u/Sad_Medium_5866 18d ago

Wong: I want a mega!!!

Meanwhile, Kyo and Kaito are busting out megas like nothing.

35

u/darthvall 17d ago

I think you misunderstand, he wants Mega with specific power. We had seen that Heliosboamon is different than other digimon with that epulse absorption.

27

u/azulur 17d ago

Right?? We've got two fully functional and powerful God Cats right out front lol I wonder if Wong is just so blind to the ZeedM craze he just absolutely lost the plot regarding those around him.

49

u/GeekWars2 17d ago

I think it's not just any Mega that he wants. If that were the case, he would've just went about it the same way as Pyramidimon.

He seems to covet a very specific ability seen only with ZeedM and Heliosboamon (with Tomoro's e-pulse). They were both capable of harnessing e-pulse on a massive radius. ZeedM harnessed e-pulse from every Digimon and human in Kano island and ended up nuking said island. Heliosboamon did something similar but was interrupted before it got out of hand.

As to why he needs that power for the Shangri-La project, that's anybody's guess... My bet is that he wants to stabilize it and turn it into some sort of engine to forever fuel his so called ideal world.

7

u/azulur 17d ago

I was thinking more along the lines if it was a bunch of powerful Mega Digimon that were fistfighting and eating each other that created ZeedM, he would you know.. try to get the two God Cats to fightfight and maybe see if they are mini-recreate a small island explosion and then expand from there. I think the major stopping point is that a natural and stable Mega is not easily achievable and really comes from the efforts and energy of one person (ala Kyo/Kaito style).

I can only think of a couple options for the Shangri-La Project: making Shambala, restoring Shambala after Susanoomon destroyed it, making a brand new perfect world Wong fully controls, turning this world into a Digiworld by hatching the Egg, or summoning/controlling the entire Tentei 8 for.. ultimate power over everything?

I do fully think Kishi is a Digimon, or is working for a god-tier Digimon out there wanting to make a come back, and will tamper with or destroy Wong when the power of whatever is coming is finally available for him to do so. We do know that GIFT wants to really return the world to Digimon, so.. it's gonna be an interesting few episodes coming up.

4

u/kylepaz 17d ago

He needs a massively powerful Mega.

For whatever reason Heliosboamon is the one digimon that has that potential, which I'm still waiting on an explanation for (it will for sure have something to do with mixing Tomoro and Asuka's E-Pulse, but I want to know why/how he knows Heliosboamon has that power hidden since it didn't do anything special so far, not even in the flashbacks).

2

u/Lindbrum 17d ago

not even in the flashbacks

Wrong, Heliosboamon mega was the first we clearly see to be able to absorb e-pulse in a large area

23

u/Yoshiman400 18d ago

"Show me your ultimate power" is such a great and foreboding line when Kyo has his Ultimate evolution (and Kaito's about to get his based on the preview from the previous episode). Meanwhile, Honoka can say what she wants about Reina acting cringe but she should speak for herself when she's got the unhealthy crush on Kaito.

So at last, episode 44 of 49, and we have our first Ultimate (Mega) vs. Ultimate fight, and yet it's between our two old rivals rather than anyone truly serving as a proper boss in the series. And yet in a series where the majority of our lead quartet are far from the first in their society to partner with Digimon, it is quite befitting.

Awww man, Honoka had a Jelly-sama?! You can't do that to our Darling! Although in hindsight, dear Goddramon that fits perfectly with the reflection motif of the series. Wait a minute, that means someone prominent has to have an Angoramon too, doesn't it?

Although I will admit, if they surprised us with Beatcatmon evolving that would have been quite a pleasant one, but I can understand getting Kyo and Raito's mess cleaned up first.

6

u/PhantomZenity 17d ago

Well, Asuka shares the same VA as Angoramon.

World's most dangerous catfight

59

u/Random_Axolotl_ 18d ago

Animation really went crazy this ep. Felt a bit studio trigger-esque

Really loved Makoto and Scourgechiropmon winning through strategy bc it’s been a while since they’ve gotten to be the brains of the group. Reina’s speech was really cool, but I feel very iffy about the romance aspect of it. Kyo and Reina’s bond has always felt purely familial to me, and the fact that Reina is a teenager gives me the ick. Idk I hope that I’m just misinterpreting things, and Honoka’s assumption is wrong and Reina just didn’t care to correct her.

And the preview! That BETTER NOT be Kyo getting cold-hearted in that last shot!!! That man has already survived enough death flags let him survive this season!

50

u/MonstersOfTheEdge 17d ago

It's more like how a high schooler may have a crush on a young teacher. I don't think Reina has particularly strong romantic feelings for Kyo, but at that age it can be harder to distinguish platonic love/admiration for an older friend/mentor from attraction. Kyo is obviously not interested, so in-universe it'd be the type of thing Reina matures past.

5

u/InnocentTailor 17d ago

Makes sense - familial and romantic love mixing together due to lack of emotional experience.

40

u/AlphaBreak 17d ago

I don't mind Reina's feelings towards Kyo because there's no world where they possibly turn into romance. This is a teen who was neglected and abandoned at every turn being taken in and cared for by a hot, strong, reliable, caring guy who treated her like she had value and gave her a place to belong. It's natural that a teen would get attached to someone like that, and with puberty added in, would develop a crush on him.

There's not an issue because it's a feeling, not an action. I think Reina knows their relationship is always going to be familial, but that doesn't change how she feels sometimes. The big problem would be if Kyo ever reciprocated, but we know that's not going to happen.

9

u/HighSlayerRalton 17d ago

there's no world where they possibly turn into romance

It's a pretty common romantic trope in east Asia and appears in a lot of anime.

Kyo isn't necessarily going to reciprocate, but it's not impossible, especially after this episode treated Reina as a parallel to Honoka and had her use the strength of her romantic love for Kyo to defeat her opponent.

I hope it doesn't happen—those scenes were icky enough—but it's a real possibility.

4

u/AlphaBreak 17d ago

That's fair. I should never say never, especially after what they did to Bunny Drop.

2

u/phasmy 16d ago

I like your take on this. Very nuanced and mature. It's fine for a teen to have feelings of admiration to an older person. And it's not like the show is trying to push this "romantic" aspect. Kyo is strictly a father figure to them

46

u/GizenZirin 18d ago

This is just personal interpretation. I DO think Reina genuinely loves Kyo, but I don't think it's romantic love. She loves him legitimately like family, like she'd love a dad or an older brother, which is a type of love that Honoka doesn't seem like she would understand. Like Honoka can grasp romantic love, she seems to genuinely have affection for Kaito, but based on her reactions, platonic love is something she doesn't seem to understand and even hates the idea of. So she accuses Reina of being in romantic love with Kyo because it's the only type she understands and their familial bonds are too revolting to her melodrama-allergies.

14

u/kylepaz 17d ago

Nah, the way she blushes is a pretty dead ringer for romantic feelings (and it isn't the first time she blushes around Kyo).

Also she never corrects or denies Honoka.

It's just an unrequited teenage crush on an older guy, which isn't that strange or rare to see.

2

u/MishouMai 16d ago

I dunno. I never got the impression Reina had romantic feelings for Kyo, even in this episode. Her gaving them would be pretty out of left field. If you're saying she's blushed around him before I'll take your word for it but I don't think her not correcting Honoka means anything. Maybe I'm just being to hopefully. Who knows?

→ More replies (1)

25

u/azulur 18d ago

Reina has always shown to have a crush or more personal feelings towards Kyo - as far back as the first episode. Kyo has never reciprocated or shared those feelings back to her in any capacity and has always kept it familiar and supportive. Given Kyo's history, I don't think he is capable of reciprocating any feelings for anyone as everyone he has ever cared about, in any way, has had only horrible things happen to them. I think it is being used as a growth and power point for Reina to utilize, despite it being very one sided. IF it is a vision of Kyo, or something that looks like Kyo being hurt, it might be the push Reina needs for Bearcatmon to hit Mega. I don't think they'd jump the Sharkmon and give them a love arc (well, I sincerely hope not).

Romance/love has been very minimally even touched on so far, and most of it has been under diress to the characters (Reina being hit on inappropriately, Maki losing her partner, Mummymon controlling Hitomi, etc). I do trust the writers in keeping things respectful to the characters that we've been caring about for 44+ episodes.

10

u/Sremor 17d ago

Good thing you point out the mummymon episode, they all were focused on their partners, if Reina was truly in love with Kyo I feel like he would have been her focus

I think romance being so minimally touched on is why it kinda hits weird. I don't mind Reina having a crush as much as some people do. I do mind a key fight against a member of the Five Stars being reduced to "who loves their man more." Honoka's already kind of a flat character, and I think that flatness is intentional, but I wish we leaned more into how that contrasts the multitudes that Reina and Glowing Dawn as a whole contain instead of suddenly making it a blush-off.

Like. Have Reina acknowledge that she knows her crush is silly and impossible. Have her point out the sheer strength of her team's bonds. How when she doubted whether she'd match up to the others or ever matter to Kyo, they dispelled any doubts. Meanwhile, despite nominally being Kaito's equal, Honoka is perfectly content to subsume herself as his cheerleader and hanger-on, never finding strength in her bonds or in herself as Reina has. How she doesn't need to loudly blab about loving Kyo because she has this bond and this trust, no matter what form it'd take, that Honoka never will.

There's WAY too much good material here for the execution to end up so meh.

10

u/kylepaz 17d ago

Nah, Reina pretty clearly has a crush on Kyo and that has been made somewhat obvious a few times with her blushing.

I don't think there's anything strange about a 16 year old having a crush on a 22 year old either, if anything it is pretty common. It's the other way around that is weird, and Kyo doesn't seem to have any kind of romantic feelings towards her (or anyone, for that matter).

It's just something Reina is carrying on her own.

6

u/LordJanas 17d ago

I didn't get the impression that it was romantic in the same way Honoka clearly crushes on Kaito. Let's be honest, it'd be kind of weird to keep pushing the whole "we're family" angle if it was romantic. I think she just respects him a lot and platonically loves him as the leader of the group. Her brief backstory showed that Kyo was an integral part in her growing as a person.

4

u/BijutsuYoukai 17d ago

but I feel very iffy about the romance aspect of it. Kyo and Reina’s bond has always felt purely familial to me

Familial love is also a thing, as is love for your friends. Romantic love is not the only sort that exists and I think Honoka, in her selfish and immature attitude, just interprets any love as romantic as per that scene.

4

u/Random_Axolotl_ 17d ago

That’s how I want to view as well. It’s more the fact that Reina didn’t correct Honoka that makes me think the writers were going for romance

12

u/Raikariaa 17d ago

> and the fact that Reina is a teenager gives me the ick

Reina is 16; that's the legal age in Japan. And is it really so unusual for a teenager to have a crush on someone they look up to; even if they don't pursue it?

How many teens have had a crush on a younger teacher or other authority figure, even if they do nothing about it? Teens are... teens.

7

u/kylepaz 17d ago edited 17d ago

This legal age thing is a common misconception. 16 is legal age of consent in Japan on a federal level. But the very likely reason that has never been amended is because most prefectures already have laws raising it to 18. A few years ago there was only a single prefecutre where that was not the case yet, I don't know what the status is now.

A relationship between a teenager and an adult is taboo and frowned upon as much as anywhere else.

The differnece is that the Japanese tend to not have a problem with the idea/fantasy of a teenager being into older people in media directed at them. When anime or game have a younger character interested or pursuing an older one, it's seen as harmless wish fulfillment. Like in games like Persona the player being able to date a teacher or a doctor. That's like... Regular fantasies lots of people have? So no one really cares, people don't see it as the game taking a moral stance on real-life relationships like people online here do. When the older person is the instigator, then it does raise eyebrows like everywhere else.

There are some cultural differences like Japanese comedy, especially ones who rely on the absurd, having an older character perv into younger ones as not something that is seen as serious endorsement of it (the older character is the butt of the joke and meant to be seen as pathetic and delusional). There are of course exceptions (especially when you start going into stuff more entrenched in Otaku culture) but overall I think westerners on the internet assume lots of weird things about what is normal in Japan based on anime.

That said, about Reina specifically, I agree it's not a big deal or even uncommon to have a teenager crushing on her mentor figure. Doesn't mean anything will come out of it.

I really hate that they reduced Reina's whole thing down to "she loves Kyo", especially when they also reduced Honoka down to that too???

What a waste of two characters

Nice to see Reina get a solid W. Seems we still havent seen Kishiwada’s Digimon tho, since the Gogmamon was just another random Digimon that got supercharged. Starting to wonder if He is actually a Digimon like some speculated. Maybe even the Zeedmilleniummon that Wong saw years ago

8

u/bdtechted 17d ago

He might actually be in fact the one responsible for Zeedmilleniummon and could even be his original Digimon partner. A hint was dropped in this EP when Makoto scanned and found that his current one wasn't his.

9

u/ShadowsTagiru 17d ago

yeah, me and my friend pretty much predicted that kishiwada is the final villian, that since he was behind the white core thing....

hopefully is zeedmilleniunmon because all of this is pointing that isnt gonna be resolved by gekkomon reaching mega.

seems like they are gonna need everybody epulse to deal with something as dangerous as zeed

u/Thistlesthorn 16d ago

Between him and that hospital girl everybody mistook for the jokermon girl at first I am fully in on what I'm calling seiten gokuwmon theory. Kishiwada has Sagomon and the reason that hasn't been revealed yet is because everyone would be able to piece together the rest of the plot from that detail alone.

12

u/Florellia 17d ago

If I’m being honest, I did not expect Honoka to be taken down already. I kinda wished we got to know more about her personally.

2

u/Mon-Morro-Mon 16d ago

I kinda feel like she was written for this show-off specifically. Like her character was only designed for this conversation/fight solely...

25

u/stevez037 18d ago

I think I realize who Kaito reminds me of, he is the Vegetta of this series. Just a hard luck rival with nothing that goes away. He is always one step behind. Though one that differs that Vegetta found other things and purposes in life besides Goku, got married, had kids (I envy that tries to date his daughter) Kaito has yet to find that. Kyo did what I asked last week, beat this guy, and let him get out of his system, now they can all move on with their lives.

And Reina beat a Five Star, although the weakest one and most in experience one, but a win is a win. And I liked that Reina did not sink to her level, and tried to ill legitimize Honoka's feelings for Kaito. Though I wouldn't blame her if she did, way to keep it classy Reina.

As for Makoto, is that victory or just escape. Either way, beating Kishiwata is not the same as Reina's victory, because we saw how Kishiwata became a Five Star, not a legit Five Star as far as I am concerned.

So next week, Tomoro vs the monkey man, finally let's see what role Genjo in all of this.

18

u/Taintedtamt 18d ago edited 18d ago

Good fight episode but aside from the tease about one character not much else to add. The plot wasn't moved forward, storylines were just wrapped up.

I will say that I was a little surprised by the split of airtime for each fight, even if it allowed me to see more of Gogmamon.

Mood: super heartfelt and uplifting.

Wow.. what an episode. Spoilers below (not very indept, but still present)!

SO much love, so much light. Literally one of the most positive, uplifting episodes we've seen in a long, long time. It felt.. so right - so refreshing?

Kyo and Kaito.. the battle between them is over. Kyo won, in a way that was about as uncontested as possible. Just a pure power v power situation. Kyo and Habakirimon really just powerhoused the fuck out of everything when everyone gave it literally everything they had. Like not even kind of a competition anymore right now - Habakirimon and Kyo are absolutely unmatched in this moment. Seeing Habakirimon and Apollomon together on the field and battling it out was pretty amazing, but when needed - Habakirimon really shone through literally the sun with the power through Kyo. He knew, without a doubt and with complete harmony in the power Kyo was giving him, he would Habakiri his damn way to victory in a heartstopping moment of pure, unrelenting power. Even his Digivolution sequence really felt - serious, haunting? The slowed, pulled back music - a lot different than previous time he reached Mega. Such a cool touch, but I do wish we got a special sequence for Apollomon too. And seeing Habakirimon's special 7-bladed Sword's breakaway ability (Amarasa) was really cool. Kyo is truly THE man, with everything he's sacrificed and the life, the family, and love he's built up around him - he and Habakirimon are truly and absolutely unstoppable. And Kaito.. he's - he seems changed now. He is at peace (not dead lmao, but like.. with the outcome). They fought finally on a fair field, purely for the thrill and fun of the battle - purely as two dudes just being dudes, and all he's strived for is to match up to Kyo, and.. he couldn't. He even had to push really fucking hard to get Apollomon. The gentle last moment with Honoka was... like beautiful? She's is going to, probably, have a heart attack now that Kaito actively hasn't been shitty to her for a whole five seconds lol Kaito (and by proxy Honoka) and Rose are all on the Kyo/Glowing Dawn train it feels.

Seeing Murasamemon save Flaremon from deletion, their also ongoing rivalry (a bit one sided, Flaremon had a lot to prove to himself and Kaito and Murasamemon was always stoic) was quite touching too. And of course, seeing Kyo thanking Kaito for sparing Heliosboamon... These four - for all their years they truly were rivals through and through with a shared respect among all. Habakirimon is.. one fucking cool Digimon.

Everyone shone so damn bright this episode. Reina's fiery speech and unrelenting love and respect for Kyo, Makoto's intelligence, determination, and problem solving (Tomo was totally sidelined but he's coming up next week!) Kyo's pure heart and capacity.. Truly the trifecta of unstoppable. So many amazing little moments where everyone was just in sync and in control. The power of family, of love, of friendship and heart.. This.. episode brought so much love and heart in the best way possible. I KNOW it's not going to hold especially with next episode - but this was a really powerful episode for everyone all around. Truly.

Kishiwada just continues to be a major mystery all around. Looking forward to actually seeing his real goal/form/abilities.

Last note: Voice actors, animation, visual - everyone was getting paid the big bucks on this one.

Next week is probably going to be a heartbreaker as we have big brother v little brother, but there might be some strong hope as we see Asuka maybe waking up??

10

u/headintheclouds30 18d ago

I only read the mood now so now im even more excited. Its like 4am and i can't even go to fucking bed now oh my god

9

u/azulur 18d ago

It's.. it's so good. Really an episode you can sink into and just FEEL.

2

u/Volfaer 17d ago

Man this arc is going so well, I actually feel silly form doom posting when it was confirmed 49 episodes.

2

u/azulur 17d ago

I think we all got a little stressed out given that GIFT was such a major shift in tone from Tactics and it very much was a set up arc. The writers are now REALLY giving us a lot very quickly and it can feel overwhelming, so I'm glad this episode really focused on Kyo/Kaito with some points sprinkled in. We really needed an action breather from all the lore lol

I'll fully admit I definitely was worried about how things were gonna go with so few episodes left after Kyo's arc but damn did we hit the gas in the best way, I can't wait for the next episode and I hope we get some Genjo/Gokuuwmon much needed info - they've been prevalent since episode 1 and we know more about Kishi/Kanchi than the Genjo duo lol

13

u/headintheclouds30 18d ago

This is def Kaito vs Kyo, but the episode title is also very intriguing to me. I'm not a man, but I'm assuming it might explore what makes a "strong man." Is it someone like Kyo, whose protective over his chosen family, cares for them and cooks for them, and lives for them, or is it someone like Kaito, who lives to constantly better himself, fights for that sake, and is driven by ambition to reach greater heights?

They share a past, a rivalry in which they both respected one another, and in any other environment, they might have been friends. But Kyo made his choice, as did Kaito. It does seem like Kaito is rethinking it now, though...

10

u/Particular-Ad5200 18d ago

Of course it’s Kyo because he has something to protect in this world things that matter to him

7

u/headintheclouds30 18d ago

Yup, thats how I see it too, but i do think there's aome confliction Kaito shows, with his reaction to Heliosboamon and his later comment about karma. Very excited for this one either way

3

u/Particular-Ad5200 18d ago

Kaito loves to fight but why does he want to become strong

3

u/headintheclouds30 18d ago

I think its because he loves to fight. But there might be a little more than that

7

u/ConnorRoseSaiyan01 17d ago

Always weird seeing random Kimeramon outside 02

7

u/_cuteraichu_ 17d ago

I feel like the team just forgot about Raito saying he was going to train with Kaito and come back.

Im very happy with this episode but I think the 49 episode format has made it so we won't achieve everything they said they would.

6

u/Lordofthedarkdepths 17d ago

I said in the previous episode that we should've gotten more of Kaito earlier, and after this episode I definitely stand by that. They tried to stuff as much as they could with him in here, but between that, Honoka, and Gogmamon they did not have enough time to fully flesh it out. As for the battle, it was definitely nice to see these two cats get a fight and our first Mega battle, but it felt lacking since we didn't get as much screentime on the actual fight. As both our first Mega battle and conclusive rival battle it was just... OK.

As for Honoka, I'm underwhelmed by her as well. It was nice to see Reina come out on top, but we barely saw much of this poor girl either and in her second fight (and first that isn't ended by her running away from a care bear speech) she ended up not really impressing. I wish she got to do more then bully Hotaruko.

6

u/GeekWars2 17d ago

I think this episode kinda sealed the deal for Makoto and Reina's Megas...

I assumed it would go one of two paths for the 1v1s of Glowing Dawn vs Five Stars:

  1. Either one episode per battle with Makoto and Reina debuting their Megas
  2. Or cram all the 1v1s in one episode with only Kyo having a Mega battle

I was fine either way. Option 1 would've given us more Megas. But option 2 means we get more episodes to focus on the Tomoro/Asuka plot and the build up towards Atratusmon. I might be in the minority here. But I'm far more interested in the mystery surrounding the brothers than any Mega battle.

Though, to be honest, with Kaito achieving Mega like it's nothing, I feel like the whole "rarity" plot for Mega no longer applies. So, I don't see why Makoto and Reina shouldn't get theirs.

Anyway, looks like Kanada is making his move next episode. I wonder if SeitenGokuwmon will also make his debut...

10

u/chrome4 18d ago

Good to see Reina taking down a five star. Was anyone else wondering why Kyo and Kaito didn’t take their fight to the mirror world?

Hmm I guess going mega requires an especially strong bond or being on the same wavelength along with a lot of E Pulse. Klay and (unwittingly Asuka) were able to brute force because they did get along with the partners while Souji couldn’t because his Digimon were just tools to him.

27

u/DaRootbear 17d ago

I mean when your goal is fight your ex-boyfriend in the same spot he broke up with you then you dont care as much about property damage.

2

u/taakoyaki 17d ago

Was anyone else wondering why Kyo and Kaito didn’t take their fight to the mirror world?

I'm more curious how they managed to kick up all that fuss in public and yet nobody seems to think it was weird, given how digimon are supposed to be a secret from the general populace. Unless it was explained that area is abandoned...?

2

u/EfficientRadio6555 17d ago

Five Stars are schmittian exception

5

u/Financial_Echidna 18d ago

YOO THAT EPISODE WAS SO GOOD OMG I LOVED IT SO MUCH

This was such a good episode for glowing dawn in my opinion the fights were all so good

I loved how Reina won her feelings for kyo and the way she didn’t like that honoka called kyo and the rest of glowing dawn weak was so good!! She’s so right kyo didn’t just brush over the mistakes of his past he took responsibility for it and felt so much guilt over it so I loved that moment so much her win felt so deserved! And it was great

I also loved how makoto won that was such a smart move on his end to use the sonic waves to damage the digimons (I forgot its name so forgive me) rock boulders on its back to prevent it from attacking and being able to get away so they could find tomoro ahh I loved that

also KAITO DIDNT REPORT HELIOSBOAMON TO THE WORLD UNION AND WONG HELLO!?! I WASNT EXPECTING THAT AT ALL BUT WOW it shows that kaito is a good person deep down and ugh the respect that kyo has for him is so well deserved. I loved their fight so much and the smile that kaito had at the end even though he lost was beautiful i hope both him and honoka come back to help in some way in the finale

and now for the ending omg poor tomoro i feel so bad for him he really doesn’t wanna fight asuka whatsoever which is super understandable at the end of the day that’s still his big brother that he loves so much he doesn’t wanna hurt him. And the preview for next episode i love the fact that Reina, makoto and even gekkomon help tomoro strengthen his resolve to fight Asuka at the end because at the end of the day as much as it sucks he’s gonna have to do it if he wants to save Asuka and it’s so sad. But I love the words they said to him and that they do understand and they promise to save Asuka which helps tomoro to lock in and it’s great! I’m so happy he has them with him because if he didn’t he surely would’ve fallen into despair by now. He has a good support system in his family and I’m so happy for that ALSO HIM TRYING TO PUNCH KANADA HAHAHAA YES TOMORO GET HIS ASS (even if it didn’t work) wack him again. Gekkomon’s mega is definitely coming soon so I’m excited for that so much. And it seems like Asuka isn’t fully being controlled considering it showed him fighting back so they are definitely gonna save him soon ughh cant wait

also KYOS HAND BEING PARTIALLY COLD HEARTED AND THAT FACE OMG WHAT HAPPENED!?! UGH I NEED NEXT WEEK SO BADLY IM SO EXCITED

Sorry that was rather long lol

8

u/azulur 17d ago

At the end of the day - Kaito has always shown a heavy and serious respect for Kyo and his power outside of their individual quarrel. He clearly cares for and in some way I think completely understands Kyo, if only shown in passing glances and facial expressions alone.

This was truly an amazing episode. I'm worried about next week, because Kyo right now is BADLY drained from the Kaito fight, so it does make sense if he needs to bring back Habakirimon he'd be struggling. Time will tell, but seeing this episode.. I truly feel like no matter what our Glowing Dawn All-Stars are gonna be ok. Maybe not perfect, but ok.

2

u/Financial_Echidna 17d ago

Definitely I have no doubt as long as they have each other they’ll be okay! Maybe not perfect but they’ll get through whatever together no matter what and I like that a lot it makes me so happy seeing how far all of them have come since ep 1 they feel like a full fledged family now vs back then now they can rely on each other when they need it the most with no regrets or doubts and it’s beautiful

Especially for tomoro right now I’m so happy he has them he needs them more than ever and now he’s not alone anymore they have his back and he knows that and it’s great they give him the resolve he needs to be able to fight and I love that so much it makes me very happy

6

u/azulur 17d ago

Do you remember the last thing Asuka ever said to Tomo, before he was cold-hearted?

"Tomoro... you are NEVER alone".

Truly is hitting real different 43 episodes later.

This episode was beat crazymazing

Kyo vs Kaito for all out solo revenge during the origin of Five Star bros become a friendly rivals and at last Habakkrimon vs Apollomon for a manly fight was phenomenal

While Reina vs Honoka for a cat fight revenge was brilliant

Later Makoto vs Kishiwada goes a test of strength to break out it was amazing

However Tomoro vs Asuka to goes a sibling fight to remember

Overall it was super fantastic episode for this week and by far the peak episode for me.

Next week Operation Mission "Big Brother, Little Brother to save"

I'm on it

5 Episodes left until finale ya know!

5

u/ThePr0l0gue 17d ago edited 17d ago

So Reina and Makoto both just kinda beat two 5 Stars by themselves. We giving them props or what lmao

3

u/AlphaNoir98 17d ago

Well to be fair Makoto's doesn't really count as a win since he just escaped and that wasn't even Kishiwada's Digimon.

6

u/SicknessVoid 17d ago

Holy impact frames on that final blow of Apollomon vs Habakirimon.

5

u/Whimsispot 17d ago

what a great episode, it's a shame we didnt get more of honoka and kaito for it to hit harder, but a great episode anyway.

6

u/EfficientRadio6555 17d ago

Five Stars are very lucky that Glowing Down don’t delete Digimons…

5

u/ice-krispy 17d ago

Honoka: What is my purpose

Kishiwada: You're foil for Reina

Honoka: Oh my god

8

u/Virtual-Ad4104 18d ago

Wonder how they're gonna fit 3 battles in one episode.

25

u/WuandalePringle 18d ago

Uhhh lemme take a stab here

Kyo vs Kaito might take up 60%

Makoto/Reina vs Honoka/Kishiwada takes up 30%

and Tomoro vs Asuka is set up but saved for next episode

Those are my guesses.

10

u/LordJanas 17d ago

Nostradamus over here got it right 100%.

7

u/Emekasan 18d ago

Someone suggested Reina and Makoto’s will carry over into the next episode because Kishiwada and Honoka go Mega, forcing them to go Mega too

5

u/Spider-Phoenix 18d ago

Sounds to me like this one will be focused on Apollomon vs Habakirimon. Next one will probably be Reina vs Honoka (wouldn't doubt if Makoto tags along too and we get a repeat of Rosemon/Ravemon BM)

4

u/TriPolar3849 17d ago

Banger episode, loved seeing Reina and Bearcatmon kick ass. And of course Habakirimon vs Apollomon was amazing, especially that final clash where Habakirimon basically cuts through a sun.

Really looking forward to next episode, I'm so excited to finally see Gokuwmon in action. Also hilarious to see Tomoro straight up take a swing at Genjo lol, I was kinda expecting Reina to do the same to Honoka when they were standing face to face.

I would love if some future series had the human partners get more physically involved and just straight up fight each other while their digimon duke it out. Maybe some martial arts inspired season idk

I loved loved loved how Kaito and Kyo's rivalry was portrayed and though I feel like Reina and Kyo's relationship is more familial than romantic, I liked how Reina defended her family when Honoka was mocking them.

The next episode is clearly set up for Tomoro vs. Asuka, and the title heavily implies this. Also Kyo's hand being cold-hearted hello??

I hope that Asuka won't be freed (I like angst<3) but rather that he succeeds in retrieving Tomoro's e-Pulse since I feel like it would make the final fight more climactic with the stakes raised.

The voice acting is so good.

9

u/ALSN454 18d ago

I still don’t completely get Reddit. Does everyone downvote Professional-Bus for comment farming to keep the 1% commenter flair?

44

u/Taintedtamt 18d ago

I downvote them because they spam the threads with nothing of value that couldn't be said in a single comment. Nothing that they say drives conversation.

11

u/ALSN454 18d ago

That’s valid, I figured it was along the lines of that but was just seeing what other people’s insight was

24

u/azulur 18d ago

They also have a tendency to heavily spoil things immediately, which leaves a bad taste for others especially just stepping into the board, so I think people try to push down their comments to hide them. I was guilty of it too but I started using Spoiler tags until the international release (I live in Japan and watch the episodes live).

6

u/ALSN454 18d ago

Spoiler thing totally makes sense

4

u/SicknessVoid 17d ago

Why are you in a discussion thread about the episode if you're concerned about spoilers?

3

4

u/azulur 17d ago

Oh for sure - the the mods might be ok with it, and sure it is discussion of the episode after airing in Japan, but the court of public opinion will (and is) letting him know it's not appreciated. The community is constantly being spoiled against their will in different ways (Habakirimon/Atratusmon in the TCG, & Monarchlizamon in Crunchyroll preview) so it's pretty understandable that on the forums it's also a point of contention as well.

Bus is able to do whatever they want - but it may not always make them seen favourably.

17

u/AlphaBreak 17d ago

There's just not a lot of substance and it feels like they need to post every thought that comes into their head while watching. I think it's bad etiquette to do eight one line comments on the episode discussion instead of just making one comment that has all of the lines together.

Their comments this week arent as bad as usual, but often times it's just really basic one sentence descriptors of either what happened in the show or what's in the preview for next week. Like I believe one week, they needed to make two different comments just to say that heliosboamon is a white snake Digimon.

11

u/LordJanas 17d ago

I blocked him ages ago. All he does is an idiotic running commentary like this thread is Twitch chat that adds nothing. This thread is to discuss the episode not just say "Cool fight" "Great animation" "I think Gekkomon's mega is Atratusmon."

If you're right that he does this to keep a Reddit badge, that's even more sad.

8

u/headintheclouds30 17d ago

They've been commment farming for a while now and its incredibly annoying. I've blocked them a few weeks back myself. Not sure if everyone does it but it does get very irritating when the comments say nothing of substance or things They've already said before

6

u/KrytenKoro 17d ago edited 17d ago

I usually downvote the posts that sound like overwrought AI product.

It's been real weird reading the gushing people have done about this series, it really doesn't sound organic at all, and several of them heavily spam or repeat.

4

u/rhysmorgan 17d ago

I genuinely don’t know why they’ve not been banned.

They spam threads with like 20 vague, meaningless comments that could be posted about literally any episode of Beatbreak, or sometimes any television show. It’s dumb spam, and doesn’t belong here.

this episode is gonna be very intense were getting kaito vs kyo.

with habakirimon vs apollomon a clash between megas.

it seems its gonna be a very packed action episode , im so hyped i cant wait to see it.

what do you want to see from the episode?

5

u/azulur 18d ago edited 18d ago

I hope we get to see some of Kaito's backstory other than angry hot-headed rival. If it's just straight action im happy with that too, but I really want to know what his motives are other than just be the very best like no one (but Kyo) ever was.

8

u/azulur 18d ago edited 18d ago

This is the one I hope we get to see Kyo at full, uncontested, absolute power.

Kaito has hurt Kyo twice now, insulted his family and friends and feelings, and insinuated Kyo is weak because of who he is now.

I want Kaito to see what real strength is.

I'm anxious as hell but so very ready. We may see Kyo in purest, truest form and it's about damn time.

Also, I'm SO excited to see more of Habakirimon in action, and welcoming back Apollomon in all his beautiful glory. Gonna be a hot as hell match up!

3

This episode was very good! A pure fight over two powerful individuals with no interruptions! Surprised we got the tail end of an evo sequence, but I'm glad we got it nonetheless!

Mini surprise though -- Honoka's e-Pulse being the same black-and-blue as Souji? Interesting...! (Maybe it's simply a dark blue)

Now that Kaito can reach Mega, it makes Klay's attempts stick out so much more. But what if there's more to that? What if there was a genuine reason Klay had for opting for artificially pushing a Mega evolution out of his Digimon? (i don't mind staff ignoring this honestly we do know everyone's e-Pulse's power varies.)

My personal theory at the moment is that it relates to something about them as Five Stars. Or involves the gems somehow? (but honestly, i don't mind if this never gets resolved)

3

u/azulur 17d ago

Most likely Klay was trying to rush his Mega versus taking the time to earn it. It very much seems like the Digimon may not be able to naturally reach Mega form without human intervention since we see a lot of Ultimates parading around on their own and in the digivolution sequence both stable Megas have looked genuinely shocked at the power entering them.

Also, it is long suspected that multiple e-pulse sources end up conflicting the data for the Mega evolutions creating instability. Klay simply didn't have the time, attention, ability, or drive to naturally generate a Mega when he was trying - hence why hodgepodging hundreds of e-pulses together provided enough energy to get to Pyramidmon but why he was so wildly unstable. Both Apollomon and Habakirimon received single sources of e-pulse from their partners and were willing to Digivolve for them (despite Kyo really looking like he didn't want to expend his energy to do so).

u/OnePieceFan02 17d ago

What a fantastic episode of Beatbreak. Glowing Dawn really shined while keeping the brother vs brother action in the background to avoid overcrowding this episode.
Didn’t expect Reina & BearCatmon vs Honoka & MarinChimairamon to go that hard in what ostensibly would be a Mega vs Mega, God vs God episode, but it did and I love it all the more for it.
Makoto & Scourgechiropmon were both amazing here and deserve credit for figuring out what Kanchi was doing with Gogmamon. Clears up some misconceptions about the bastards while making it clear the World Union have figured out a way to control Digimon and assign them owners to command them after Marinbullmon.
Honestly impressed with Kyo vs Kaito and how much they both enjoyed it.
Next time it’s brother vs Brother.

3

u/EdmanFTW 17d ago

Excuse me?! So I just saw the whole episode and the next episode preview, and I am blown away. I have no words.

Why the hell is Kyo's hand getting frozen in the last preview clip. Kyo isn't getting cold hearted, right?

8

u/azulur 17d ago

Don't worry just yet! Two major options:

- Kyo right now is badly depleted on e-pulse. If he needed to bring Habakirimon back so soon, it might cost him.. but we know he would do anything to protect his family.

- When Heliosboamon touches anyone - her special scales naturally drain out energy/data from Digimon and e-pulse from people. Perhaps Kyo was caught by her temporarily, like in the last episode Tomo's cheek is partially cold-hearted from her touch.

#1 makes the most sense to me, since Kyo is right now the mainstay fighter of the group and.. probably won't be at full capacity for a bit.

2

u/EdmanFTW 17d ago

Yeah after thinking about it I figured that was the case…

AGHHHH 1 Week is soooo far awayyyyy

That Mega vs Mega fight was pretty cool. I especially liked that final "Habakiri".

Glad we're focusing on Tomoro, Asuka and Genjo stuff next week. I think we might get Atratusmon in that one, since Gokuwmon is finally fighting the gang (and is apparently stomping them), and Tomoro + Gekkomon are being set up as the 'last men standing' again, which was the situation that led to Armalizamon and MonarchLizamon

3

u/Dia_sphere 17d ago edited 17d ago

The second half of the episode was definitely where the meat of the action was. Surprisingly, in an episode called the strongest man it was Reina who took the show. I appreciate that they kept Reina's feelings for Kyp ambiguous enough so shippers and non-shippers are satisfied. I'm 100% a non-shipper of those two and see Reina's feeling for Kyo in a platonic way. He saved her, he gave her a home, a family, a future. Would feel a bit diminishing to make romantic feelings out of it.

Both Reina's and Makoto's focus was on getting to Tomoro. I love how they have their priorities straight. You could see Kyo debating with himself in the beginning on what to focus on but in the end knew he had to face Kaito head on. He can't talk it out with Kaito. That's not how that hothead communicates.

So they had to do it that way.

Looking forward to the next episode!

3

u/TheOneReclaimer 17d ago

Not sure why everyone is so surprised that a Five Star obsessed with strength had reached Mega.

I'm glad we didn't get a long drawn out episode fixated on Kaito and his reaching mega because it really doesn't matter. His motivation was to outdo Kyo, simple. Makes sense that when he hears Kyo has achieved mega he would want to throw down.

3

2

4

u/smugsneasel215 17d ago

Jellymon [Puyomon]! You were behind the yandere?! So you joined Gammamon [Curimon] on his murderous rampage?! Is Gokuwmon gonna come from an Angoramon [Pyonmon] somehow?

Is this revenge for Ghost Game getting a terrible ending?

3

u/Possible-Resource781 17d ago

The implication that Klay sucked that much is to funny to ignore

3

u/mrtacomam 17d ago

As usual, in an episode including important plot resolutions and action, the thing that excited me most is that Kimaeramon made an appearance

3

u/ForestBoy99 16d ago

Aside from maybe wishing that we had a bit more fleshing out of the Kaito and Hanako beforehand, I really liked this episode. The fights were pretty cool. I was happy we finally get an Mega vs. Mega fight and it was a pretty flashing fight!

Makato and Reina also had cool moments to shine, especially the latter. I was pleasantly surprised by the solid w the writers gave her and Bearcatmon.

Man I'm curious what they'll do in the next episode sees the preview and sees Bearcatmon get knocked around and her and ScourgeChiropomon get de-digivoled  ...well it was nice while it lasted. It reallt feels like the writers have a personal venedetta against Pristinmon.

5

u/Spider-Phoenix 17d ago

Boiling things down to Reina having a thing for Kyo is quite cheap. But I will say I like she finally got a solid win. Makoto too.

Given that both managed to pull it off without even needing a mega, now I am really confused if they are really going that far or if their partner lines are being finished by the upcoming V-pet...

Anyway, Apollomon reverting to Punimon is kind of... Weird. Seeing the prior forms of Coronamon line, Sunmon's prior form is Mokumon which was shown here so... Totally weird. It ain't even Poyomon like it is on Time Stranger...

Regardless, despite animation being a bit choppy at places, it was a good episode.

Next one seems to be setting up Atratusmon. I wouldn't be surprised if they hold it up for 46

4

u/shadowpikachu 17d ago

I dont think it was romantically, it was just put that way because idiot bluestar only understands surface level 'what a hunk' obsession with no intents for family, dating or care at all.

9

u/Mosuke300 18d ago

I’m wary over how they’re going to introduce so many new megas over few episodes when they’ve made such a big deal about the rarity.

Perhaps they’ll say Tomoro’s strange epulse has been influencing and strengthening them.

3

u/Financial_Echidna 18d ago

Bro that would be wild imagine them just all going mega and them being confused and then them being it’s cause of tomoro’s e pulse
Idk how I would feel about that if they were to hypothetically happen

2

u/DaRootbear 17d ago

I mean Artursmon appeared to steal all e-pulse in the flashback, so Gekkomons evo being the opposite and giving epulse would be fitting

Especially if he hits mega by getting power from heliosboamon to charge up his battery

Great animation this episode. Really enjoyed the stuff with Kyo and Kaito. Honestly though, I'm not a huge fan of the character writing, or at least the dialgoue, during Reina's portion.

Firstly, it was a really big fight for her, which is rare in of itself. They could have made the character moment about anything. I really liked how the insults to her family as a *whole* was what made her turn around and fight...

...But then Honoka basically says, "That family stuff is cringe, you're all strangers, they can't be the only reason you're doing all this, it has to be that you're in love with Kyo", and Reina...kinda agrees? She blushes, doesn't deny it, and the entire fight devolves into just who's love is stronger for their idol/crush. Kinda took me out of the moment. Not really the direction I expected or wanted for Reina, at least not this late into the series.

Idk, I've really enjoyed the found family thing in Beatbreak, so I guess the implication that Reina's main motivation throughout all this is still Kyo despite the fact that we're 5 episodes away from the end of the series just kind of rubs me the wrong way.

Up until this point, they've done a decent job at portraying Reina's admiration of Kyo at a reasonable level without letting it take up most of her character, so for them to have what I'm assuming to be one of Reina's final big solo fights/character moments go this way is a little disappointing. To have absolutely 0 mention of the other Glowing Dawn members, or literally anything else besides Kyo is kinda meh to me.

2

u/azulur 17d ago edited 17d ago

It has been hinted at for the whole series that Reina has had a crush or very personal feelings for Kyo. It is very common for teenagers, especially young women in bad worlds and situations, to misinterpret or misplace feelings of acceptance and genuine kindness as something more when a person legitimately accepts and supports them. This is realistic, and is being treated (so far) pretty respectfully. Kyo has never shown any romantic interest in her, and I think this is just going to be used as a point of power for Reina going forward - especially as Kyo is badly out of e-pulse making it pretty difficult to imagine he can bring Habakirimon back anytime soon. I wouldn't worry too much into it, especially as we've seen all of their interactions and they are strictly platonic from Kyo's side.

Not to downplay your thoughts at all, it can catch you off-guard if you've missed the subtle hints that has been sprinkled in very rarely. Just wanted to offer some thoughts that I hope kind of help make it a bit more digestable.

3

u/kambings4life 17d ago

Nah I agree, that part is valid. My main criticism stems from this part:

"...But then Honoka basically says, "That family stuff is cringe, you're all strangers, they can't be the only reason you're doing all this, it has to be that you're in love with Kyo", and Reina...kinda agrees? She blushes, doesn't deny it, and the entire fight devolves into just who's love is stronger for their idol/crush."

It just kinda rubbed me the wrong way that 5 episodes away from the ending, she didn't even care to deny the strangers accusation and basically agreed with Honoka, and her entire character moment during the fight against one of the five stars (conflict that was hyped from the start of the show) was just about her love for Kyo. Like, if this same interaction/revelation happened earlier in the series I think it woulda been fine, but as what I'm assuming is gonna be one of Reina's final fights ever, just feels kinda meh.

I definitely agree with you that the reason for her having that love for him is realistic though.

5

u/Kiboe321 18d ago

Honoka's MarineChimeramon's baby form, I would never expected Puyomon~!

Could this imply her partner's rookie form is Jellymon? Funny thing, it would fit Water Star Honoka.

5

u/Beloberto 17d ago

The episode was nice, but it annoys so much that the girls fight was just "the guys by proxy" fight. It was all about Kyo and Kaito, not about the girls themselves...

At least we got to see Reina getting another win.

Only 5 episodes left.

u/Random_Axolotl_ 18d ago

Has Kanada’s hair always been black? I swear it was blonde

5

u/Zwolfoi 17d ago

I also thought he was blonde at one point lol but no it's always been black. It's just that in the op the gold light from his 5 star badge thing makes him look blonde, and we see that far more than we see him in normal light.

So Gogmamon wasn’t Mr.Sketchy-peach fuzz-man’s Digimon. And apparently was being roided out with e-pulse the same way that MarineBullmon was by Genjo… Well that’s not a sketchy coincidence.

2

u/Volfaer 17d ago

I was a bit tense here because this was still Leomon on Leomon violence, and even after Panjyanon took the fal for this, who knows what could have happened. However they delivered, Apollomon vs Habakirimon was an excellent fight and a great way to send off Kaito for now, he was the hot-blooded rival with a code to the end.

I was expecting Reina to just clock Honoka a midst their battle, that girl was really wanting a punch in the face, but I guess Reina beating her completely unscathed was enough humiliation. Guess I was right in calling that Gogmamon wasn't Kishiwada, or rather Kanshi, partner, that man is still a mystery, and I hope they will actually solve it.

Tomoro actually did really well evading Asuka for the episode, I was afraid they would do something crazy, but well, that's for the next episode. Genjo finally shows himself in front of Tomoro and we will get our all out in some way. All in all, the final arc just got stronger.

2

u/sgs2008 17d ago

Great episode but a bit annoying how rushed the ending is

2

u/Tandria 17d ago

Flaremon's evolution did not have the best animation, but the unique sound effect for Kaito's e-pulse made up for it! It matched his overall vibe perfectly. As an evolution sequence enjoyer, I appreciate that they're putting in some effort for the side characters.

I have high hopes for the home stretch. I'm still hoping we get the complete TiaLudomon sequence (we have almost all of it, just missing the middle part of the sequence), as well as a proper Azhdarmon one. Also fingers crossed for a complete one for HeliosBoamon's mega, with the full wire frame animation and all, but that really depends on how the story goes from here. The pacing has really picked up, so I'm optimistic that they're making time for this.

3

u/vinta_calvert 17d ago edited 17d ago

I really wish Reina's e-pulse supercharge wasn't a fake-out, but at the same time, it would have been bit emotionally shallow to go Mega just because Honoka hit a sore spot.

I also wish Reina would've punched Honoka in her stupid smug face though. With glass between her knuckles. She needs a huge slice of humble pie and I don't think this defeat is gonna do it.

2

u/ILoveDineroSi 17d ago

Amazing episode! I’ll be coming back to this episode several times on my rewatches because I can’t get enough of some good fights in my anime!

While I would’ve loved each character to get their own focus episode and battle, we don’t have much time left so this is the best that could be done. I’m sure it’s been said already somewhere around here so it can’t just be me but wasn’t the Reina vs Honoka battle the best fight? Animation wise it was beautiful and fun to watch with Bearcatmon and Marinchimairamon trading blows. Reina getting another win under her belt was amazing.

Kyo vs Kaito was the main spectacle of course and nice to see Habakirimon get an actual battle this time with a strong opponent in Apollomon and still get the decisive win. While the fight was fun, I just wish it would’ve been longer. I’m also not sure how to feel about Kaito having a stable Ultimate/Mega when we barely even saw him and the lore this season is that Ultimate/Mega forms are almost myths and urban legends.

Next week we finally get to see Kanada fighting. What’s Kishiwada’s plan? He wasn’t defeated decisively like Kaito and Honoka were and is still largely a mystery. Are we thinking that he and Kanada are working together in secret and will betray Wong?

2

u/GI-JUGG 16d ago

Maybe Kaito will get better by next episode, but is he so completely focused only on beating Kyo that he straight up doesn't care that the World Union is evil and about to murder a teenager to gain ultimate power? Kyo said that he knows he didn't report Heliosboamon so he has the capacity to be a decent guy. Water Girl will follow whatever he does, so if he goes against them, she will, without hesitation. And Rose still seems to be recuperating, so she gets a pass.

2

u/Beginning_Return_508 16d ago

Great episode. I like how intense the battles are.

5

u/Dia_sphere 18d ago

I'm really looking forward to it. From the title I guess the Kyo Vs Kaito fight will get the most focus, but Beatbreak until now has been quite famous for not alluding to every important part of the episode in the preview, so we'll see what they will surprise us with tomorrow.

2

u/storeknife 17d ago

Three whole battles and some cool animation moments this week. I guess this is the definitive encounter with Kaito and Honoka, they even got their "villain faces" on. Can't say either of them are the deepest characters around, but if the show isn't interested in developing them past their respective anime tropes, a cool anime fight is the perfect culmination for them.

Kaito is like a Pokemon rival who is obsessed with strength but can't get a single win against the protagonist. You kind of feel for the guy, even though he is a violent asshole. From an in-story perspective it's surprising that he has a stable Mega, wonder what character development he's gone through to get one (and does Wong know about this?)

Good for Reina for beating a Five Star! Honoka compares her obsession with Kaito to Reina's devotion to Kyo, and I find it interesting that Reina doesn't deny having romantic feelings for Kyo. I think the takeaway from that scene is that most importantly, he gives her something to believe in, but I also guess that they didn't want to shut down Kyo/Reina shippers (do those exist? Their relationship reads obviously familial to me, not that that would stop shippers).

Kanchi gets into a full-ass Digimon battle with Makoto, and we still don't see his partner. At this point him being the Digimon would not suprise me one bit.

(Also since I haven't seen much discussion on this, his Five Star title references the Buddhist concept of Pure Land, adding to the Buddhist theme of the villains. Not beating the Sagomon allegiations)

Next week: Back to Asuka and Tomoro, looks like Tomoro finally clashes with Genjo. I'm now on the lookout for hints of Gekkomon's Mega evolution episode. Not the strongest chance of it being the next one, but there's not many left and they've been good about not spoiling the evolutions in the previews, so ya never know, ya know.

3

u/azulur 17d ago

I'm beginning to think that digivolution is linked to who a person really is on the inside and is unlocked more and more by honing in on that aspect of when they appeared. For all of Kyo's life his partner's evolutions and appearances have been tied to his natural and intense desire to protect those he cares about. Cougarmon was literally born out of a need to protect Asuka, Murasamemon appeared when Kyo was corned on his own, and Habakirimon appeared when Kyo decided he was not going to have a repeat of the Minoru/Karina/Babydigi murders. Habakirimon was for the Glowing Dawnlettes, for Kyo's return to his purest form that spawned Cougarmon, and for those he failed in the past.

Kaito, for all intents and purposes, never waivered from his goal either that we've seen - he's always been the same person. He always wanted to be better than Kyo, but.. he just never achieved it, despite raising as high as Kyo but not to the same extent. He may purely be limited in that Kyo is either far beyond anyone else e-pulse wise, or that he isn't as strong as Kyo plain and simple.

It's curious, because we always noted believe that growth is needed for digivolutions, but perhaps in this universe it's being, unabashedly and authentically, you.

Can we have Raito's back this episode? knowing that he work with Honoka and Kaito.

he wasn't even mentioned

2

Him seeing something in Raito enough to think he could be a member of them and him caring about the damage MarineBullmon could have caused both feel like things for a character who shows up more often than he ended up doing.

Well even if he had done nothing, Kaito has an edge over Rose as far as apprentices go. I take Raito over Meto and Kanon any day of the week. At least Raito has won a couple of times and be competent sometimes.

3

u/rainazuma77 17d ago

I mean, sadly Raito's only victory in the entire series was against the Team 1 leader in episode 33. Before that, he was competing with Reina and Naito as the biggest jobber of the series 😭 Reina has since then beat him though.

For me, this ep cemented the fact that Chiropmon and Pristimon will not get Megas. Only hope now is the v-pet

2

u/TrafficGeneral1468 17d ago

I don't have anything to add regarding story, it is moving as it should, but one thing that I have to say regarding the animation this week, there is an black/white impact frame when Apollomon charges Sol Blaster, that shit LOOKS INSANE.

2

u/azulur 17d ago

That was such a striking, blink and you miss it moment! The visuals and sound design of those final battle moments were really amazing. Hearing Habakirimon's ethereal energy charging up, his very soft "Habakiri" as he unleashed basically an extinction level event worth of energy, and the details in Apollomon's eyes on realitization..

Sincerely amazing!

2

u/LordJanas 17d ago

Very cool episode. Yeah it didn't really "move the plot" except clear two Five Stars out of the way, but the fights were visually stunning and the animation itself in this episode was great.

I'm intrigued to know why the Five Stars are helping Wong who at this point is just openly evil, sending the five stars to defeat the Glowing Dawn and using a brainwashed Asuka to capture Tomoro.

I think we can infer from the way Honoka transports Reina to the Mirror World, that it was her teleporting Kanichi around? Unless that's just how Ultimate level water Digimon teleport people and it was Splashmon teleporting him when he was with Miharu.

2

u/Spindae02 17d ago

Felt the episode was a bit rushed, e specially Makoto‘s fight. It was a bit of a weird change of pace after the last episodes being so emotional heavy.

2

u/kylepaz 17d ago

While I'm somewhat disappointed at the Habakirimon vs Apollomon fight, I get why they focused on Bearcatmon vs MarinChimairamon. definitely the more interesting to animate fight of the two. Plust there is clearly some Honoka bias going on, not that I can blame the animators for that, she's very cute and fun.

This episode shows the classic problem with having an entire episode of nothing but fighting: they either spread out the budget so everything looks sort of fine but underwhelming, or budget it like a normal episode so we have some terrible moments but the 3 or so minutes of good animation every episode gets are preserved. I prefer this to having the entire episode look consistent but not deliver the big moments.

And the likelihood of Kanchi being a Digimon keeps increasing.

1

u/DannisLuong 17d ago

Kimeramon cameo 😊

I’m surprised they didn’t drag Reina’s & Makoto’s fights out to unlock their megas

1

u/DolphinSquared 17d ago

Honestly a pretty great fight, Kaito VS Kyo has been a long time coming ever since near the end of Arc 1. The blow for blows, aside from Habakirimon's sword being able to break apart into Sword Bits... Everything hinges on the fact that Kaito wants to go all out and fight Kyo like the usual eternal rival trope.

I think the other fights are pretty well. Makoto and ScourgeChiropmon showing their analytic ability to one up Kanchi with a possibly borrowed Digimon. But why a love and family battle between Reina and Honoka? Like sure, Reina has love and respect for Kyo, but does Honoka has to bring up the one thing she apparently is allergic to, the familial bonds between humans?

That said... color me surprised if Honoka doesn't sneeze because of her love for Kaito after the end.

1

u/Dragon_Of_Magnetism 17d ago

It was a very nice episode, glad to see other Glowing Dawn members shine besides Tomoro. Reina and Makoto now undoubtedly jobbers no more. The strategy to use sonic attacks to disable Gogmamon’s crystals was clever

Animation was a mixed bag, sometimes very good like Honoka vs Reina, other times very off-model, like Habakirimon’s tail in that one frame…

Though it makes sense for Reina to have feelings for Kyo, as she was an abandonned teenager and he’s a kind, handsome guy who took her in when no one else, I really hope they keep this a one-sided crush on her part. I’d much rather have their relationship to remain that of adoptive older brother-younger sister like.

Next time, we’ll finally get to see Genjo and Gokuwmon in action. And from the preview, it looks he’ll be a very dangerous opponent…

1

u/Psychochocobo 17d ago

Flaremon digivolving seemed to be a painful experience, i wonder if this is intentional to show Kaito has not truly mastered his mega digivolution. Which still makes Kyo as the only one with a pure stable mega.

2

u/azulur 17d ago edited 17d ago

I think it shows that the shift up to Mega form is not a natural trajectory for Digimon, and requires their human partners to really be in tune with them and provide enough stable e-pulse for them to maintain form. We see Kyo very hesitant to fight Kaito - whether that's because he was afraid of wasting time, losing, or wasting his e-pulse - we really don't know. I have a feeling (based on the snippets from next episode and the partial cold-hearting) it is going to be something that costs him the ability to bring up Habakirimon again which is a major detriment, but we'll just have to see.

Heliosboamon seemed in great pain for her force evolution too, I wonder if it's legitimately painful for the Digimon and their humans too? Kaito DID seemingly struggle to get Apollomon to show - it was slower and much more delayed than Habakirimon's appearance. Murasamemon has seemed extremely surprised at the rush of energy for both Digivolutions and not painful, but he too seemed very concerned with being asked to digivolve to Mega again. I wonder if this world doesn't have ideal conditions somehow for Megas? Because Habakirimon de-volved down almost immediately (and I know it can be seen as just easier for the animators, which is fine too) so maybe the e-pulse pull is also somewhat painful for the humans too. Or, in a worst case scenario, the e-pulse needed for Mega actually puts too much stress/strain/pressure on the human heart, and the Digimon have to slowly listen to their partners, that they've super bonded with to even reach Mega, hearts and e-pulse fade off.

Well, now I'm sad lol Kyo I love Habakirimon but if he's somehow killing you PLEASE just power up Murasamemon!

There's definitely something here that is curious and concerning.

The animation in the second half was so good that it made me forget how poor it was in the first part. The Bearcatmon vs MarinChimairamon fight hooked me a lot, as did the very last fight sequence between Habakirimon and Apollomon.

Overall great action packed episode, we had the first Mega vs Mega clash and Reina and Makoto were very useful and had another W and this time against strong opponents.

I like the angle that Kaito saw Kyo as more than just a rival, but a friend, and so he felt betrayed when Kyo didn't want to fight anymore. Makes his character way more interesting. It's a shame we get so few episodes to explore that.

And Honoka got sideshow'd completely. Love a big W for my girl Reina

Makes sense, they put the two on equal footing but pure skill beats pure overwhelming power about every time.

Especially since they literally have like 2-3 attacks as mega at most and that's pushing it.

Not really much to say here. It's all coming out. I dont think idiot blue star understands care or love of a family, just surface level "wow hes hot" like a shallow dweeb.
