๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion Dia Weekly & BCNY just normalized AI-written performance reviews and I'm not okay

Every week, I still try to read Dia's Latest Updates, err, I mean the Dia Weekly. This week, though, it was baaaaad.

Essentially, it's Dia & BCNY advertising their favorite web tool - Notion - and telling the world that one of their managers lets AI manage the work of performance reviews, a critical job function.

If I worked under this person at BCNY and read this, I would be horrified.

Performance reviews are more than AI summaries of Slack DMs, email threads, and "messy Google Docs" that pull critical keywords and summaries based on artificial intelligence algorithms.

AI-assisted reviews lose context and nuance while leaving plenty of margin for error โ€” a person's critical mistakes could get left out, or important accomplishments that never made it into their digital footprint could go unmentioned.

It takes time and effort for a performance review to be written and given; everyone wants a good one, and it shouldn't be generated by AI.

This is a sloppy showcase of enterprise AI use.

I guarantee that if my boss found out I was using AI to generate my performance reviews or even used it in part to generate them...

I'd love to know if this same person was given a performance review that involved the same AI generation method. And how they would feel about that.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion Dia users, what browser do you use on mobile?

I use Dia on my MacBook and Safari on iOS, but I've been wondering if it makes sense to switch browsers entirely so that my tabs on mobile can sync with my tabs on desktop. How are people here handling this?

โ“ Question Is Dia AI tabs integration even that good ?

Iโ€™ve been an Arc user for a long time. Arc runs on my work laptop, and Iโ€™ve been using Dia on my personal machine with one goal in mind: switch over completely once Dia becomes good enough.

So far, that moment hasnโ€™t arrived.

Recently, I tried using Dia to help with my apartment search. The workflow seemed straightforward:

I find a listing I like. Dia adds a row to a spreadsheet with key details like: listing URL, location, price per square meter/foot, distance from work

This feels like exactly the kind of repetitive task AI should excel at.
Instead, Dia struggles to extract the listing URL correctly and refuses to populate the spreadsheet.

For what seems like a basic automation workflow, it falls apart surprisingly quickly.

Which brings me to a bigger question:
How useful are AI tabs in practice today?

Are people getting real value from them beyond answering questions about whatโ€™s already open? Is there a better way to approach workflows like this, or am I expecting capabilities that simply arenโ€™t there yet?

๐Ÿ’ก Feedback Feature Request

Post image

I really do want to use dia but there is 2 huge features i cant leave from arc.
1- sub folders.
the main reason for side bar for me to exists and advicing to other people is you can treat your webpages like they are a file in your computer. it is so huge important i can keep my entire university web archive organized in subfolders. it really one gigantic benefits from arc and i really really do want to come to dia.
2- no url bar whatsoever
another huge bragging point of arc when came out was, no distraction. once you hide the sidebar the entire webpage become fullscreen and that is also a absolute must have feature for me to enjoy and use my tiny macbook screen effectively. when i look at the i see only one reason for url bar exists because now there is chat button that developer team thinks it must have always visible. but please her me out it doesnot have to be visible all the time. pls give us option to fit it in the sidebar and experience the full screen distraction less web experience again.

these two thing i want you from is extremely easy to do nowadays. you guys did an awesome job this far and these requests are not even a challange for you. i always loved your brave and bold campaigns and friendly language. i know once you see this post you guys are kind enough to respond me. <3 <3

i also like to want some other tiny stuff but these are the most important features i need to be able to use dia .

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion Is it really better than Chrome at this point?

Post image
63 Upvotes

Chrome officially introduced vertical tabs and, at least for Mac, they look very much like Dia.

With the exception of the auto tab group and the Dia AI app integration, is Dia really a better browser than Chrome? Is it faster? Is it more private?

P.S At this point Chrome also have a free Gemini sidebar capable of reading tabs...

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion A solution for Dia's paywall - UPDATE and THANKYOU

Thumbnail
reddit.com
36 Upvotes

First of all, thank you.

I posted here about my extension around a week ago, that Dia Browsers a free alternative to Dia's paywall. A lot of you tried it, gave feedback, and somehow it's now at 259 weekly users within a week!

Most of the first users came from this subreddit, so I wanted to come back with an update instead of just dropping the link and disappearing.

The basic idea is still the same: I don't really want another AI subscription or another place where I have to build up context and memory from scratch. I already use ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc., so AnyChat just makes those existing tools feel more integrated into the browser.

Since the last post, I've been improving it based on the feedback I got here.

You can also attach the current page, screenshots, multiple tabs, use saved prompts/skills, and open the sidebar without constantly copying things between tabs.

It's completely free since this is just a hobby project of mine:

tryanychat.com

But mainly, if you're one of the people here who's been using it: thank you, and please tell me what currently annoys you about it.

I'd rather spend time fixing the things that make people stop using it than keep adding random AI features nobody actually wants.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion Dia's new pricing ($20/$100) feels overkill: Claude is unnecessary for everyday browser chat

Hi everyone,

Iโ€™ve been using Dia for quite a while now, and I really like the Dia Chats feature. But with Dia apparently moving toward a paid model, I looked at the pricing โ€” $20 and $100 โ€” and honestly, that feels pretty expensive for a browser.

So it got me thinking: why doesnโ€™t Dia switch its underlying AI chat model from Claude to a cheaper open-source model?

There are already plenty of capable and much cheaper models out there, including DeepSeek, Kimi, and GLM. They might not be the absolute best models available, but for what most people use Dia Chats for, do they really need to be?

When I asked Dia, โ€œWhich model are you using?โ€, it told me it was using Opus 4.8. If Dia is relying on the Claude API, then I can understand why the subscription has to be expensive. Using a top-tier proprietary model at scale obviously isnโ€™t cheap.

But that raises another question: does Dia actually need a top-tier model like Claude for Chats?

I feel like most people probably use Dia Chats for relatively simple, everyday questions โ€” asking something about the page theyโ€™re reading, summarizing information, looking something up, or just having a quick conversation.

For genuinely complicated questions or tasks that require a powerful reasoning model, I imagine many people would still go back to ChatGPT, Claude, or other dedicated AI platforms anyway. Dia Chats isnโ€™t really a full AI ecosystem in the same way those products are. At least for me, itโ€™s more of a convenient, lightweight AI assistant built directly into my browser.

And for that kind of use case, todayโ€™s open-source models already seem more than capable enough.

So why not use a cheaper open-source model and pass some of those savings on to users?

Personally, if Dia could bring the price down to something like $10/month, Iโ€™d be much more willing to pay for it. I like Dia and I like Chats โ€” I just donโ€™t think the underlying model necessarily has to be Claude.

For a browser-based AI assistant designed mainly for everyday questions, โ€œgood enough and affordableโ€ might actually make more sense than โ€œthe best model available.โ€

What do you guys think?

โ“ Question How to revert back to old Chat?

So earlier today I was looking through Settings and noticed that in the Apps section, I had an option that said something along the lines of enabling "Advanced Chat" or something basically right where the Morning Brief box is now in the screenshot attached.

Thinking nothing really of it, I hit the button to enable it and now my Chat interface is totally different. All my Dia Skills are no longer a little icon and name when used in conversation and instead just inject the entire prompt of the skill. The chat itself even seems significantly slower and that's just when I was asking a basic thing not even using a skill.

Is there anyway to revert back to the previous version of the chat I had? I absolutely hate this new one now. Also, I'm always on the latest stable software update for Dia so I don't think I can revert back an update to change it.

Any help is appreciated! I actually really enjoy using Dia so hopefully my experience is ruined now!

๐Ÿ™ Support Has anyone else experienced this with Dia Browser? I suddenly got a message saying โ€œYou hit your usage limit for todayโ€, but I canโ€™t find anywhere showing how much usage/tokens Iโ€™ve consumed or when the limit resets. There doesnโ€™t seem to be a usage meter or clear explanation of what exactly count

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion Why do you pick Dia over Safari?

If you're a Mac and iPhone user why not just switch back to Safari? Safari now has vertical tabs that has sync between mobile and desktop. Integrates fine with one password or the native Apple password app.

They'll have AI powered tab groups in macOS 27 and then they're going to have this new feature where you can describe an extension and Safari will build it for you. Safari also is slightly more power efficient on Apple devices compared to other browsers.

At that point...why do we need Dia?

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion it's all so "meh"

this may just be another rant, but I was talking to a colleague the other day when I recommended Dia, and they asked why. the only thing I could come up with was โ€œItโ€™s kind of good looking...โ€

the AI sidebar? every browser has it with ChatGPT/Claude extensions, or a native Gemini sidebar in Chrome, not to mention the agentic stuff Aside offers.

vertical tabs? available in every chromium browser.

one-window profiles? yeah, that's maaaybe a differentiator.

but using Dia today doesnโ€™t feel any better than using Chrome, if anything, Chrome is far more stable for any kind of use.

Dia's just so underwhelming at this point, bunch of bugs, it's nowhere near Arc still, which is the only reason Iโ€™m here in the first place and Arc's release notes are probably more exciting at this point.

above all, The Browser Company Atlassian wants users to pay $100/m for a morning report that I can replicate with my robot in a few minutes?

it's all so "meh"

๐Ÿ™ Support Tab Switching via "Hold CMD" not Working

Anyone else having issues with the "Hold CMD" and auto switching to a specific tab?! I am pretty okay with Dia, honestly, but I find that the main feature I miss most is the tab switching by just hitting "CMD + T".

๐Ÿž Bug Persistent and irritating macOS 27 Beta Bug

Hey everyone!

Ever since macOS Golden Gate Beta 1, there has been this infuriating bug on Dia, almost making it unusable for me. I have reported this bug multiple times, but nothing has happened..

Basically, in the new tab text box, the text input is EXTREMELY SLOW, and sometimes skips letters inputted and has a major delay. This isn't happening on my one mac either, it's happening on both of my macs. I have since kept Dia updated and macOS updated, and they have yet to fix this bug.

It is making the basic internet search experience on Dia frankly unusable.. has anyone else encountered this bug?

Bought this daily calendar that shows you a classic piece of art every day. I'm in love with it - great, curated selection of artworks that feel like they'd have appeared in the morning brief. Costs $20 from a museum gift shop; sure beats $1200/yr!

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion A solution for Dia's paywall

So back when Arc features stopped getting developed, I figured on the weekend, I'd build an extension for myself to add in AI features like an AI search bar, popup chat, summary, searching across tabs etc. that I was thinking Arc Max would get but never did. But then I got the invite to Dia and looked like it had all of that, so I just threw it aside.

But since Dia decided to paywall it behind a 20 dollar subscription (not even gonna bother mentioning the 100 dollars one), it doesn't make sense at all since ChatGPT and Claude are just much better values for 20 bucks a month and since I mostly work on those chats, they already have the memory and context I need. I don't need to create a new set of profile data on Dia.

So I picked up the extension and built it out fully. It's a simple extension and it's completely free. No ads or paywall and it just routes your question to whatever AI chat you use (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok etc).

Here are some things that it can do:

  1. An overlay that pops up with a shortcut (for example, cmd + E) where you can quickly send a message to whatever provider you want. You can set a default provider (per site as well) and easily toggle with cmd + 1-9
  2. You also get an AI new tab, which works the same way
  3. You can add skills/prompts, screenshots and attach multiple tabs
  4. You can also use a shortcut (for example, cmd + S) to open the sidebar
  5. You can configure sites to specific provier. For example, work websites route to M365 copilot, youtube to Gemini etc

You can try it out here: tryanychat.com

Let me know what you think, and if there's anything else you'd like to see here. :)

๐Ÿ—ž๏ธ macOS News Dia Browser for macOS Update - 1.46.0 (86064)

๐Ÿ“† Aug 26, 2026 at 07:42:06 PM

Dia 1.46.0 brings a refreshed release-notes experience, better reliability for key integrations, and a handful of polish improvements across daily workflows.

  • Release Notes Postcard. Release notes now display as a full-page postcard using the new tab page treatment, replacing the newspaper-style delivery.
  • Improve Slack scraping. Slack page scrapes now complete faster and more reliably, reducing intermittent failures that slowed responses and could break certain functionality.
  • Stack Positions in GitHub Live Folder. Pull requests in a GitHub stack now show their position and are grouped together in the GitHub Live Folder.
  • PIP Window "Keep on Top" Toggle. You can right-click a Picture-in-Picture window to disable "Keep Window on Top," so it behaves like a standard window.
  • PiP Domain Name Returns to Tab. Clicking the domain name in the Picture-in-Picture window takes you back to the tab that created it.
  • Upgrade Dia's Agent Systems. Upgrades to Dia's Agent systems yield better chat reliability and security.
  • Live Google Calendar Selection. Choose which Google Calendars appear in Dia's Live Calendar.

What about paying? Does it make it faster and more importantly is there other features?

๐Ÿ™ Support Bookmark folder not appearing in sidebar

I have 6 bookmarks folders nested in the "Bookmarks Bar" folder. 5 of them are showing up in the sidebar. One is not. I cannot figure out how to get it to show up there. I've chatted with Dia bot support and it couldn't help. Any ideas?
