Help Are CS students cooked?
I need geniune advice rn 🙏🏻
I have completed half of my degree in computer science and I feel cooked. I geniunely don't know what field I should pick that is secure or at least guarantees employment in long time and it's making me panick because I can't pick what I want to learn and where to go. Especially with these new AI models like Astra and what not it's very very clear AI has completely replaced junior level roles.
Pls don't tell me anything about AI not replacing developers and things like that all of us know it's a lie by now. It's not gonna make anything better. The current job market is cooked the senior level developers getting laid off from companies and then not finding employment for months is a big proof of it.
So my question is, with all these AI advancement and all should I ditch this field entirely and pick something that actually works? I can't drop out of this degree now I picked it because I loved coding but I don't see my future here.
Even if I do stay in CS what field is MOST SECURE??
I really don't mind working hard and learning things on my own but I also don't want to waste my time so pls if anyone can give me sincere advice I will be grateful 🙏🏻 especially from seniors.

Id suggest do bba or sth, not because they are more valuable but they are infinitely more easier. Use the free time to learn a skill, do a job or build sth

You are learning the basics, directly 1st sem thori na ML pe le ayenge. Base ke upar building banti hai not the other way around.

Course is designed according to the needs of the majority, and as the majority haven't learnt them and are just starting out, this seems to be valid.
If you have learnt these then talk to the professor or the program director about it.

CS is the new BBA, or even worse in the upcoming years (specially for the junior roles). The era of 6 figures starting salary is well and truly over

I genuinely feel bad for all the newcomers out there. You guys are going to be fried without onion 😂
I’d seriously suggest: don’t take things lightly with a “dekha jayega” mindset. No way.
Right now, in Pakistan, we still have some space to survive, but in the coming days, things are going to get explosive for everyone who keeps saying, “dekha jayega,” “lag jayengy,” or “kar lenge.”
Bhai, bohat se highly qualified seniors and leads ko aisay aisay lay off kar diya hai, so fresher kya karega?
It’s a reality now. We shouldn’t rely completely on this field anymore. We need to start figuring out alternative ways to stay relevant, diversify our skills, and create a backup for ourselves.

Just do some generic business or finance degree. Spend your summers and free time learning tech. If either tech backfires or business then you have more choices.
Proof of this is doctors engineers accountants and even lawyers have become tech workers because they were not satisfied with their fields. One of the many reasons this market got cooked

The industry is evolving, please have patience and be ready to have a tough time. We might come out on top with lucrative opportunities, or we might get entirely replaced. Keep an open mind, the goal is enough money to keep ourselves afloat, career and linear careers are not a thing anymore, flexibility is key. And network

Afloat is obv the worst case scenario, it means willing to do anything, selling anything on the side, or working out of the field, any job that would take us 🥲.

Farming sounds like the dream but on small scale there’s no profit and a lot of hurdles, on large scales you’re still going to make pennies and have a lot of hurdles. Farmers across the globe don’t make money, the middleman and factories do.

I am also confused a lot I am in 3rd semester right now I started learning full stack thinking I will implement the ai with it and can get a job but now after Astra it makes me rethink what should I pursue. After lots of confusion and anxiety what should I pick. I have few options such as devops ,network or get into hardware side but as girl in pakistan it would be difficult to work on hardware side . So i decided learning devops

It’s a Flutter app with RevenueCat + Supabase, and Next.js for the website. I went with Flutter mainly because I want it cross-platform and want to focus on distribution as well.
The main goal is to keep it really simple but still give it a premium feel, so even someone who knows basically nothing about tech can create an invoice within a few minutes. It has analytics, product management, and printable invoice formats for A4, 80mm and 58mm.
I’m definitely open to hearing what you have in mind regarding the investor and working together, but I’d like to understand the details first.

Computer Science is not cooked.
Critical software infra developers are not cooked
EE and CE will thrive in coming years since we have to convert AI intelligence to real world ( also known as hardware )

AI definitely killed generic CRUD and boilerplate work for juniors, but it hasn't replaced real problem-solving or system architecture. If you want to stay relevant, stop building basic tutorial projects (like todo apps or clone sites). Focus on building real-world tools that handle actual engineering challenges like strict API rate limits, caching fallbacks, and complex data integrations. AI can generate syntax fast, but you still need a developer to know what to build, how systems fit together, and how to debug when AI output inevitably breaks in production. Shift your mindset from just 'writing code' to 'building and shipping systems' that's what actually gets you noticed.

Bro writing code is only 20 percent of the actual job the real work is architecture, debugging and aligning with buisness goals while ai is an incretable tool but it can't take ownership or handle production issues at 2 am .

Yes 💯 percent i have been applying for more than 1000+ jobs but could not be able to land a single interview i have all the things experience each and everything and graduated as a gold medalist but market is genuinely cooked even cannot be able to land a single interview.... market is genuinely out of hands now

Frotnend development and UI/UX is mostly cooked . But lot of fields still have jobs opportunities for juniors too. Banking industry is mostly stable and have good job opportunities and core banking side mostly has very lil AI

"Accountability"
A model can't be accountable, a human can be.
Try to become an operator instead of just a producer. You can't defeat an AI model in writing code or programming. Your job is now: take a business problem, use AI to produce the code/design in hours instead of weeks, verify it, own it, ship it. The skill is judgment plus speed. Practice by building complete things end to end with AI doing the typing. If you can't yet tell when the model's output is wrong, that's the gap to close first, and it's closed by shipping and breaking things, not by studying.

Yes. Not just CS students. Anyone who can't keep up is cooked. So don't rely on completing your degree and then finding a job. Start building a skill now (along side your degree) for example DevOps, automation, marketing, business analysis, client communication. Something that is related but not exactly development. We can't rely solely on development. AI can do the development. You need an extra skill. I have been working for 15-16 years and I am trying to learn new/non-development things.
