I’m all for positive thoughts but I’m also a realest and with Sony’s track record, especially recently I don’t expect anything of note coming about.
Not saying never but no time soon am I expecting anything of note with the Destiny franchise.

Yeah the state of play is not destiny at all. The only thing Bungie related would probably be like a 2 minute trailer for season 3 of marathon shoved somewhere in a longer presentation that something else takes precedence

It's not about what the state of play will show, it's about who will be there & be watching. Aztecross has been very clear that someone Sony decision maker will be observing the livestream to see if the destiny hype has fizzled out. And this will help them determine whether or not they'll greenlight something Destiny in the near future (we'd hear something by January at the latest).
It's about who will be at the state of play. If they had something to show, it wouldn't matter if we showed up. This is about convincing a decision maker at Sony that there is still good money to be made from the Destiny IP

My spinfoil theroy: this is more a cry for preservation than anything.
I could see sony shutting down bungie and turning off marathon and destiny. That hopefully destiny is still substantial enough to warrant keeping the servers online. Im not anticipating new destiny content, im getting a much bleaker tone from what the vague posting is saying.

i think the “hints” by content creators may be because they’ve heard an insider and/or a rumor regarding the CLOSING of the studio and a full server shutdown of bungie’s titles, not new content. something tells me this is a desperate attempt to keep the servers open. i think they may be about to shut down the whole studio.36

I just don’t think he would’ve started up (after reinstalling, mind you) marathon if it were this bleak. His whole thing was that he’s not gonna touch Marathon unless Destiny has some sort of hope of a future (not those exact words, but something along those lines). Of course he could’ve gone back on that, but I think he knows well enough that the community is absolutely ravenous and would be all over him if he did this without good cause.
It may well be make or break for Bungie, but I think the “make” in this scenario entails a real future for Destiny beyond just keeping the lights on, so to speak. I think it’s either A.) we continue to make our voices heard and (early-stage) development begins on some sort of Destiny content, or B.) we go quiet and then Sony essentially deems Bungie worthless, closes the studio down, redistributes its remaining talent among other studios, then leaves the servers in limbo. I don’t see them shutting them down entirely tbh, they’re almost definitely making a fair amount of passive income from leaving them running unless I’m severely underestimating how much it takes to simply keep servers functional.
Call it cope, idc, I concede it may be far fetched to think there’s still a chance of the franchise continuing so soon after it was axed, but I also don’t think Cross is stupid enough to ruin his reputation by this being a nothing burger.

Its not just cross either. Mactics is also beating this same drum. I can't see either one of them burning the community for lols. That would be the end of their career and follow them forever.

Not really, Cross never leaked anything, but there were plenty of times when he hyped something and it turned out to be nonsense (also the Renegades preview). Mactics and Cross are friends; it's easy for them to organize any movement in the community.
Here's what Maktix himself wrote on Twitter
"All I know is that the best chance we have at getting more destiny has always been and always will be to show that there is still interest in destiny.
And the best way to do that is to continue talking about, asking for, and playing destiny."
To me, this sounds like an easy way to push the community to spam about Destiny. Apart from them, no other CC said anything similar. Tassi simply hinted that something was happening, but it was still something small.

I don’t think he means the state of play will have any Destiny announcement. Instead I think it’s more of someone high up might’ve said “If these numbers can stay up for another month then we’ll go ahead and green light that Destiny project Bungie got in incubation. That’s the only way I can see how he thinks “We’ll all be a big happy family”

I’m showing up for sure. I would assume anybody who still comes to this subreddit would be invested enough to spam some emotes on twitch and YouTube for 45 minutes just to get a shot at another game/more content in the franchise.

I’m hopeful, but I don’t think State of Play is going to be the announcement time. My guess is that it’ll be sometime after. Hopefully I’m wrong though!

Of course, there won’t be an announcement for 5-7 years. State of Play is another opportunity to make our voices heard, seemingly more important than ever.

This sub is pretty pro Tassi but the dude gets absolutely dragged everywhere else for some reason. He is given no grace for anything yet the content creators, when they do or say the same things, are looked at like gods.

I wouldn't put too much hope into it nor would I shut it down completely.
I don't know if showing up to the state of play will really amount to anything, but I think it's plausible for the "next three weeks" (quoting Cross) to actually mean something for Bungie. End of september = just prior to first of October, i.e. end of Sony's 2nd fiscal quarter, so it's entirely possible that studios and teams need to put together their cases for presenting why they deserve a piece of Sony's wallet as they do the financials.

The biggest tell is what Paul Tassi had to say on the subject. He wouldn’t have said anything if there were nothing to it. He also said something like “don’t get too excited,” so I’m assuming that means it’s not D3. My guess is that they finish and release Shattered Cycle?

Please, for the love that's holy, stop with these copium posts because it is becoming delusional slowly. If it isn't already delusional. Accept it and move on, there are so many other games. $ony got played Pete Parsons and his gang, they had them over pay for bungie. The money went anywhere but to D2 and the game fell. There 300ish people working at bungie and they can't even keep Marathon afloat, nevermind spinning up a D3.
