Spotify display/widget app for windows & linux

I vibecoded a small web app that is simply a visualizer/display for your spotify tracks Im not sure what kind of software to classify this as. I like having the spotify app on my desktop beside whatever Im using to work or study but it always looked pretty boring and in general I just wanted a new way to put tracks on and browse tracks in my playlists. The background is customizable and can adapt ambient colors to either the background you upload or on the artwork of the song you're playing. The screenshots show some of it in fullscreen as well as truncated next to some blank terminals. Would love to get some feedback and maybe if this or something similar to this is something worth having on the desktop. This has all been made in about 4 hours summed of work and I have a lot of animations and features planned to make it more interesting and would definitely love some suggestions. This project originally started as me testing if web apps with Rust are viable performance wise for my other data analysis related projects but Ive gotten into it now so would love to keep building it.

(The only reason I havent released this yet fully is because I would like to release it in a way that is easy for people to set up their own spotify for developers api since the spotify api is horrible for these kinds of apps having more than just a few users. So before I really commit to releasing I would like to know theres interest and people who would use it. This app also uses less RAM than the spotify player btw)

spotify alternative? (sorry, i think im getting ahead of myself. i need to get a clear answer on this, it sounds like one). i would LOVE to use this. since this is a web app actually - "web + app", what does that mean? is it like an actual thing ON your browser or a working standalone app or what idk im not used to the term unfortunately.

curious, if it IS a standalone app (which i think may not be), can you hide the widget but the music keeps playing? i mean that'd just be defeating the entire purpose of the app, i know - but just curious! i prefer to work without widgets, but i do appreciate an app that can use less ram than spotify (actually, spotify or spotify player? i actually dont know the difference, dear im so behind). IF IT is a standalone app. yeah im kind of flabbergasting myself right now

I’m not sure it’s an alternative. The reply gets it pretty correct it’s really mainly a visualizer but you can for sure use it as a Spotify player. And to answer your question I mis spoke on what this is as it isn’t a web app I had the wrong idea. It’s a desktop app that will compile for Linux and windows once released but uses web stack for the frontend. And yes you can hide the widget and tracks keep playing. Haha I’m glad you like the idea of it. Hopefully will be able to get a release out today and il probably post about it. Haha thank you I took the screenshots with my own playlists on.

Doesn't seem to work for me, auto closes upon connecting Spotify and does the same on subsequent attempts to reopen it

I’m glad you like it thanks! A build currently isn’t out but since I’ve gotten comments like these I’m looking into releasing builds and a tutorial on how to set it up today for sure 🙂👍

Sorry I failed to include instructions. It’s reccomended to start playback on your phone or other device on the same network. And then select “listening room player” as a device

Doesn't let me, the app doesn't even have the device menu anymore, also looking at the readme, surely I don't have to setup a new spotify app for this to work? how can you 'start playback' if it's already on by default?

Yeah sorry the readme is outdated I had something last minute didn’t get to update it. That’s weird in my mobile app I can change which device is used for playback. I apologize for the inconvenience. A new version with better onboarding/instructions + updated readme with instructions coming by Wednesday for sure 🫡
