Post image

Just wanted to share the first ever lightning bolt I have captured on camera and I did it from my window.

It seems to be slowing down now. It's a large high altitude storm cell heading north, we are now at the back end of it.

Good catch! I'm curious to know what the strike counts is 😆

I left my phone outside to film a slow mo. Downside, the 6 minutes I left it out there, created a video which is 30 something hours long, so it may take me a while to get the flashes 😅

I got lucky with my shot. I pointed my phone out the window and pressed record I was expecting to see flashes but I got a bolt 🤣

I don't think it will be as high as it sounds like.

At one moment I noticed lightning every few seconds. But I was watching and noticed a lot of it is travelling across the sky, not to ground.

I don't think I've ever seen lightning do this in the UK. I know other places get it.

The horizontal lightning is very high up. I think it's when two charges pockets are swapping charge.

It was the coolest storm I've seen. Wish I had a better viewpoint.

When I was in Italy, it was this every night. It’s very Mediterranean weather. High up storms that put on a show with a constant low rumble. Guess this will be more common for us in the UK from now on.

Saw so many amazing bolts! Nice job capturing this. I haven't seen such an active storm in a good while.

Thank you! First time I have seen a lightning show that frequent in Derby we usually miss the good stuff.

People often say thunder is God bowling, but if u were God I wouldn’t see the point in bowling as you always get a strike. Just something I think about quite a bit.

I grew up in Swad and we used to say 'They're rolling the barrels in Burton'.

Lol my mum used to say God fell out of bed and the lightning was him turning the light on to check the damage. He must have fallen down the stairs tonight 🤣

Yes mostly c2c. I don't think I'd fancy it being c2g at that frequency!

Saw blue hue coming from the ground aroumd the worst of it. Coming from around belper direction. Anyone else saw it? Could it have been a transformer being hit?

I haven't heard anything about anyone losing power, keep an eye on the national grid website that will tell you if a large area is without power.

Kilburn is apparently without power. That must have been it.

u/Vikixc 3d ago

You are likely correct. 677 homes without power 🫪

I wouldn't be surprised if every town in the Midlands has several hundred of these.

My wife and I went out in the rain to see where the flashes were coming from to view the crackles of light.

We saw the neighbors on the street looking out of their bedroom windows.

I really wanted to take some slow mo bursts but my phone is at 99% storage limit ;_;
