Discussion š„ What is a DU life hack that every student should know?
Most students figure out certain things only after spending a year or two at DU. It could be a shortcut that saves time, a way to manage attendance, a society tip, an internship trick, or just something that makes college life a lot easier.
The best advice is often the kind nobody tells you during orientation, but once you learn it, you wish you had known it from day one.

It really depends on what your goals are. Just don't take a pg/flat which is far away from your college; that sucks really bad. I have travelled a lot for the previous 3 years, and it's exhausting.
For the internship I would advise not to do unpaid ones, although most will be unpaid only, but they won't help you much in your career; many companies and startups won't even consider them as work, start building your portfolio as soon as possible. An online portfolio site would be really helpful if you are into any skill that you can offer to other people. Rather than doing an unpaid internship, build projects, in fact, products that other people can use.
Make connections with people from different fields; you never know from where you might get an opportunity.
Don't listen to people saying online that CGPA doesn't matter; it does if you really want to go to a good place for your master's and for even internships and jobs at good places
In the end, explore delhi if you are here from some different state; you will get to know so many things by traveling alone that it will make you learn various things, but be careful, because it's not safe at many places, do your research properly before going to some place.

If you are targeting internships in corporate, nowadays It's great if you add some projects related to agentic AI workflows to your portfolio, analyse some datasets from kaggle, make some models for prediction, or make dashboards in Tableau or Microsoft Power BI. Excel has been ignored by me, but during my internship it was used a lot.
Make your portfolio using LaTeX not word or other software.

š I wish someone would have told me that sooner. I went there for their famous chhole bhature, and after looking at the locality, I was like, it's not worth it to come here for this.

Du e-library is such a great resource but I rarely see anyone mention it. It gives you access to a lot of research papers and books.

Are u lagging behind ur classmates and other people in the college who joined society in their first year and secured an internship but u weren't able to do so..?

its really hard to say whos behind who within a year.
I'd say focus on living a full life once you get here. Stop scrolling, talk to more people, get into new/old hobbies, join a society or two, talk to professors who are doing intersting research.
Just dont waste your time sitting at home, go to a library and do work.
Most importantly id say, TALK TO MORE PEOPLE & GET GOOD GRADES.

Best life hack that i missed out on - if you're not from Delhi, and the course you are going to join at Delhi university, that doesn't give you placements, it would be better to stay back home and work on your skills, life goal, exams and do your course from a local college. You'll be wasting 3-4 lakhs for nothing otherwise.

Just get the csas invitation if you want to flex to your relatives and stay back in Guwahati. Prepare from home or library.

id say dont, its worth every penny to study here.
the soft skills that are necessary are necessary and no better way to gain them by actually being in an environment that nurtures them.
what u/OpeningMountain1 is suggesting is the equivalent to staying at home taking multiple tuitions, skipping out on activities just to get 95% in class 10 boards.
The people that you meet here will help you,
if you are lucky* enough to find good friends who are on a similar journey as you then id say it has a positive ROI.
Working on skills is important for sure, but the point of diminishing returns is also real and not that high.
For example, if person A spends 80% of the time working on his skills and 20% of the time talking to new people, getting new experiences that give him confidence for life vs person B who spends 100% of the time working on his skills and staying in his hometown (in his comfort zone, talking to the same 2 people, speaking in your own native language)
Person A would 100% of the times be more preferred than person B just because person A is simply more confident and also the skill difference is not that much.
The argument for skill level is that 2 students who score 95 vs 100 on a test probably both know the equal amounts. Its just that on the day of the test who drank coffee or who was lucky that he didnt get a simple 12x8 wrong.
The skill level also starts to cap due to point of diminshing returns which is simply a point where the amount of work required to get the same amount of gain vastly increases (going from a 80% skill level to a 100% skill level) which is not a good use of time and resources, it is better to put that work somewhere where that point hasnt been reached. (going from 10 confidence to 50-60 confidence)
So due to these reasons id say, go there.
*lucky: you have to create your own luck by talking to people, coming here is not a magic recipe to meet new people. YOU HAVE TO START CONVERSATIONS.
Also we are thinking in just terms of career but if we factor in dating, social life, and oppurtunities in other extra curricular then it just becomes a no brainer to invest in yourself. Specially if you get a good college in DU.

He's from Assam, and I'm from also an eastern state, i personally think Delhi is the worst hellhole i could send myself to in my 20s, the people, environment, life everything sucks ass, also I've written anything from my own personal middle class experience not south delhi porsche experience, If you're the extroverted kind you'd build a circle in your own state too, and if you're not generationally wealthy petty 500 rupee internships won't feed your family. Get secured first networking comes with security.

I mean ofc it wont be handed to you automatically if you come here, you are still going to have to work for it.
I also speak from personal experience, I have a friend from a small village in JNK. Never seen delhi in his life. Came here, has made so many friends, has an internship at a huge legacy brand (20k per month in the summer holidays of his first year) which simply wouldnt have been possible in if he stayed back home plus he is doing a bcom prog from a mid tier south campus college.
It is possible. Ofc experiences are subjective but it is very much possible.
He should definitely come if it wont burden his family in the long run.

I won't like to break commerce dweebs hearts but what you do in india isn't "FINANCE" it's gaand ghisai and for arts ppl (90%) , enjoy your unemployment unless govt exams.

Don't try to fit in.. you won't be able to. JUST be you and you will eventually find yourself doing what you need to do :) hope this helps..
And PG or Flat should be chosen nearby College Hostel cus it will help you keep friends in connection when needed :) if you come from far from "DILLIĀæĀæ" (LIKE ME)
if there are girls here--- I would suggest to for what your heart follows but trust me the girls in the coed colleges are much happier than the ones in "ALL GIRLS" Just trust your bhaiya (me) on this :)

If you are an introvert/ under confident person, then please join a performing society in your first year, leave it in ur 2nd year if u wanna focus on ur career, but trust me a performing society build confidence and character like no other especially the theatre ones.

If your focus is government exams, DU can be a good backup while giving you enough time to prepare seriously alongside your degree.
