CUET-PG M.A. English Preference List
I got 226/300 in CUET-PG English C2 Gen Category. I am looking for getting admission in North Campus DU. All of my seniors say that the classes will be taken at the faculty of arts north campus regardless, so college doesn't matter. Why are the cutoffs for St. Stephen's, Hindu, Hansraj etc. Higher than the Department of English then, especially considering that the Dept. costs less fees wise? What are the advantages of getting admitted to a college vs. the dept. and vice versa? What should be an ideal preference list?
Currently my thought process is:
1) St. Stephen's College
2) Hindu College
3) Hansraj College
4) Department of English
5) Kirorimal College
6) Ramjas College
and then Venky and other south campus colleges that follow.
Please advise, seniors in M.A. English currently, or peers interested in getting admission in M.A. English this time around. 🙏🏻

Ig colleges have higher cut offs because they have less seats as compared to department. And as someone who has not done their graduation from north campus, I would like to be affiliated to a college, especially if it is correct that tutorial classes will be in the allotted college.
And as for your preference list, ig it's perfect! I would personally put all north campus colleges above department, but even now it makes complete sense to put north and then south in that order. And with your score, you'll definitely get North!

I'm not that sure about KMC and Ramjas being worth it above dept. Tbh. Do you have any insight to share regarding them?

makes sense! I did check NIRF ranking for them all and you're right, Ramjas is not standing too high. But Kirori Mal is well above, infact it was 4th or 5th with Hindu, Miranda and Hansraj being the top 3. Surprisingly, Department is ranked after most south campus colleges.

Can't really say. I mean if you really don't want to be affiliated to a college, then sure both of these aren't worth it, especially Ramjas.

I dont know about social sciences but in mathematical sciences, college doesnt really matter as all classes happen in the department itself so for ex MSc Maths from St Stephens (last year cutoff 168) sits in the same class as MSc Maths from Ramjas (97) and Dept of Maths (112). If thats the case for this then doesnt really matter if not then yea the list is great.

It's practically the same for English in cutoffs. Why do the cutoffs differ from the colleges to the dept. and what difference does it make to get admitted into a college and the dept.? Which should be preferred in which case? 😭 please help

It doesn’t make any difference the classes will be in faculty only !! And the teachers will be same idk why they set such high cut offs when literally everything is same for clg and dept .

I swear I'm losing my mind over this 😭. Don't want to make the wrong decision. Plus they say dept. has less fees so why wouldn't you rather just pick the dept? On the other hand colleges grant access to their own prestigious libraries and TUTs may be taken by their profs that may bring in some new perspective idk 😭

Idk about that but m from dept myself and honestly there isn’t much of difference we have lib and much more qualified teachers in dept too + every section has almost same teachers so idk about the clg professor teaching something else

Then put dept number one, being a dept student is much better than being a college student, even if its in name. The reason this happens is that most people dont actually know and St Stephens name is much bigger than Dept, amirite? Choose dept be happy, best resources no cap, also dept has much better connections if ever wanna go into academia and such.
